Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 234: Indeed
Chapter 234: Indeed
It was a statement that sounded like a death knell for Alex and his group.
Fear’s words struck deep into their heart and just looking at him brought up images that preyed upon the fear hidden within.
They all struggled to wrestle against the emotion but the longer it took, the worse it became.
At the moment, the group were all sitting ducks waiting to be culled.
But just as Fear moved to act, a prideful feeling enveloped Alex and company, drowning out the fear they felt while a drowsy voice echoed.
...Don’t look at him directly!
Immediately freed from his fears, Alex didn’t hesitate to drop his gaze to the alabaster floor.
At the same time, white fog appeared and helped protect Alex and his group from the clash between Devils.
Perspiration peppered Alex’s forehead as he sought to calm his beating heart.
Even with Vessina’s help, the remnants of fear left in his heart impacted him greatly.
This was what it meant to be a Devil.
It explained a lot that he had experienced before.
But with this realization came a new problem, how was he to defeat an opponent he couldn’t see?
Just looking at any portion of Fear would lead to terror striking deep into their hearts which meant he had to fight blind.
He didn’t quite like the odds considering he wasn’t sure if Vessina and Xistora could defeat the angered Devil.
Seemingly in response to his worries, Vessina reached out to him mentally.
We can’t hold him back for long.
’Why?’
Truzrazeth was a unique one among us. He wasn’t born from mother and instead grew unrestrained by devouring other budding Devils. His strength at that time grew to the extent that he threatened me and my sisters.
’So you guys attacked him for fear that he would devour you as well?’
Damn it, that’s not the point!... The point is he was able to face off against the seven of us at that time and if not that we ambushed him, we wouldn’t have been able to injure him. Now he is fully recovered and even though the yang aspect is killing him slowly, his powers are augmented by the Mantle and the Abyssal powers of the Mystic he devoured.
’Shit. Fine, just stall him. I need to think of a plan.’
....3 Minutes.
"Good enough," Alex replied before quickly cutting the connection to regard his subordinates.
After the initial lull, Ana as well as Charlotte seemed to have recovered considerably with Roland and Nadia unconscious.
"What’s going on in there?" Ana asked.
Alex shook his head. "We need to come up with a way to defeat Tru... Trus... damn it, we need to figure out a way to defeat Fear."
"Vessina and Xistora can’t take him?" Ana asked, clearly shocked by the revelation.
Alex sighed. "Unfortunately not. The enemy is a bit much. We have to pool our strengths."
"Fascinating," Ana muttered, her eyes sparkling with a strange emotion.
Alex couldn’t help but raise a brow as her expression didn’t look like one that was currently in a life-or-death battle.
Shaking his head to get rid of the random thought, he inquired. "Ana, what do you know about Devils?... Is there a way to weaken them?"
"Well, excessive yang can weaken them but it’s not enough. We also have angelic power.... False Divinity too and even Godkillers..." Ana trailed off, contemplating more options.
Charlotte piped in. "What about Quillion?"
"It would work as fast as the yang poisoning and anyway, we don’t have anyone that can handle it while keeping their original skills." Ana quickly refuted.
Alex nodded. "Even if we did, this space is currently cut off from the outside. We can’t leave and no one can come in."
"So we are out of options?"
"..." Alex remained silent as he pondered the situation.
It wasn’t ideal considering how little the resources he had at his disposal but now wasn’t the time to think about that.
He had to find a solution...
1 minute!
... And fast!
Unfortunately, it would seem fate wasn’t so forgiving.
Boom
Pa
Space within the alabaster temple broke like glass, releasing forces that sought to devour everyone.
If not for Alex utilizing Eternal Night when he did, he and the others would have been lost in the void.
Gulping instinctively, he soon felt a force attempt to rip open Eternal Night and he grew frantic.
Before he could reinforce it, a pair of sharp fingers pierced through, leaving behind a tiny hole, and through it, Truzrazeth cast his gaze within.
Immediately, Alex lost all strength, and Eternal Night was dispelled instantly.
The alabaster temple had since recovered with a large purple-skinned succubus laying at one corner with her body riddled with wounds while at another angle, what looked like a huge pile of black mud was smeared across the wall.
As for Truzrazeth, he would look fine if not that his appearance was spectral.
He watched Alex and his group remain standing, clearly terrified by him.
He’d always enjoyed the look that humans would have when facing him.
It was an aftereffect of what he represented.
No matter who looked at him, they would see the thing they feared the most, immediately causing their strength to dwindle as a result.
This caused Truzrazeth to be bolder than other Devils as he knew that no one under the rays of the Lightbringer could resist the power of fear and terror.
Now, it was time to retrieve what was his.
He reached for Alex to grab him only to pause as something grabbed his wrist.
Truzrazeth blinked, unable to understand what was happening.
The man was rattled by his appearance so how could he still resist?
It didn’t take long for Truzrazeth to understand why as a great wave of darkness erupted from Alex and engulfed him, quickly changing his form until all that was left was a cloaked figure with two half moons for eyes.
Truzrazeth backed off in a panic, wide-eyed in shock at the presence of the one that had appeared.
You... you are not the mortal!
