Hunter of the Evernight -
Chapter 235: Alex... We won
Chapter 235: Alex... We won
Alex wasn’t keen on it.
The feeling of being so far away from Evernight as darkness embraced him left him feeling apprehensive.
Ever since the last time he merged with Nyx, he’d decided against allowing such incidents to occur.
Apart from the corruption it dealt to his body, it also seemed as though the longer he utilized Nyx, the more he grew distant from the person he once was.
Even now, as he floated in the emptiness that was Nyx with his entire arm and a portion of his face blackened beyond belief, he found it hard to grasp the memories that reminded him of Earth.
’Isabella... Mary-Jane.’ He muttered to ensure what he felt would remain.
Of course, judging from the severity of the situation, he had no choice but to allow Nyx to do as he pleased, which meant vacating his body.
’I have to get stronger.’ Alex decided in his heart as he watched the battle between Nyx and Truzrazeth.
***
It was ironic seeing the embodiment of Fear flee in terror from another entity but that was exactly what was happening.
Truzrazeth instinctively knew that the being before him was no small fry.
With a simple glance, he could sense boundless depths.
He would have gulped if he had the necessary apparatus to do so.
However, knowing he couldn’t just run, he decided to fight back.
He raised his hand with several yellow constructs forming about him.
The next moment, they shot toward Alex, ignoring the distance between the two of them as it moved.
In a flash, the constructs appeared about Alex and struck.
Pitiful
All it took was a casual hand gesture for the constructs to be completely devoured by the darkness.
It seemed as though Nyx wasn’t even trying as he slowly approached Truzrazeth, leaving the latter even more flustered.
Attempting yet another attack, Truzrazeth tried to utilize the divinity within the Mantle to power his attacks only to quickly realize that it was no longer responding to him.
He grew frantic.
Why?... What’s going on?... Am I not your master?... Heed me!
He tried and tried again but try as he may, nothing worked and soon enough, the divinity that buffed the Devil faded away, causing the yang poisoning within to hasten.
A muffled groan escaped Truzrazeth as he dropped to his knees.
Even without attacking once, Nyx had managed to cause the Devil to fall.
It was completely different from a few moments ago when Truzrazeth was the most powerful one in the temple.
Soon, he arrived before the Devil, his half-moon eyes curved in amusement.
Did you have fun?
What are you?
Truzrazeth felt wronged.
Everything he had planned ever since his sisters betrayed him, was foiled at the hands of this unknown being.
If he was destined to fail, then he at least held the right to know why this being was after him.
Yes, he thought Alex was merely an Apostle of this being, which made him consider Nyx to be an Evil god.
Of course, that was far from the truth yet held some water regardless.
The half moons turned to full moons as Nyx muttered.
Would you like to know?
Tell me
Nyx nodded before casually reaching out with a finger.
It came in contact with Truzrazeth and the next moment, a pained gasp echoed in the temple.
Truzrazeth backed away in considerable anguish, battling with whatever it was that Nyx had done.
After several minutes, he finally calmed down and his body began to harden, obviously because of the yang aspect raging within his being.
Then he laughed, his voice entwined with both realization and joy, clearly unbefitting of a being so close to death.
So that’s how it is... You, you are just like me... no, you are even more dastardly... fine, as long as you do this, it would be good for me, either way, they all die!
As his laughter slowly began to ebb away, Truzrazeth soon turned to stone after which his body crumbled, quickly turning into white ash.
All that was left was a kite-shaped gold crystal that lay harmlessly on the ground.
His gaze lingering on it briefly, Nyx soon turned his attention to the Mantle of Darkness which floated casually in midair.
It’s been long, has it not?... Come, you shall be the first as was promised.
With those words, he reached out his hand and immediately, the Mantle surged toward him, before disappearing into his body.
A relieved sigh echoed in the alabaster temple before Nyx returned.
Finally, silence loomed over the grand structure.
***
Within Darkness, Alex floated about aimlessly, only coming to a stop after Nyx had returned, accompanying him, a shroud of darkness and a glowing orb of pulsating red, green, and yellow lights.
With a casual gesture, the orb moved into Alex’s body and entered soon after.
"Thank you," Alex remarked.
Tis but a simple task.
Alex blinked a few times before inquiring. "The battle..."
Yes?
Alex pursed his lips. "What did you show Fear?"
... If I told you, you would have to die.
"Have to?... So you’d kill me?"
...
"I see." Alex nodded thoughtfully before replying. "Then this is the end."
What?
"I will surely champion your cause but I can no longer allow you to have your way with my body so from now... I wish for a contract to be drawn. A binding contract."
Is there a need?
"Maybe, maybe not. But I’d rather feel safer knowing that a powerful being like yourself doesn’t have all the power, watching everything I do."
We are intricately connected, I cannot prevent myself from seeing.
"I don’t care." Alex remained adamant. "Draw up the contract."
...Fine then
Nyx reached into the space beside him and a moment later, a parchment made from solidified darkness appeared before him.
Then he tossed it to Alex who caught it gingerly.
Lay down your conditions. We shall abide by what you decide.
"You will not add your conditions?"
There is no need. I told you, I don’t care what you do as long as the mission is completed.
"... Alright." Nodding in response, Alex attempted to write only to pause.
"How do I..."
Just think about them and they will appear.
Doing as instructed, one clause after the other began to appear on the parchment until a total of 10 commandments were written.
Alex sent it back with Nyx quickly retrieving it.
A moment later, he chuckled.
You do not appreciate the overflowing power that I can grant you when I possess you?
"It’s not worth it. Your darkness is indeed powerful... but it takes too much in turn."
... A cautious man.
Nyx’s grin widened as he used his fingers to draw up a signature on the parchment before sending it back to Alex.
Hold it. Take it as a sign of goodwill from me to you.
"... Thanks," Alex replied as he caught the parchment.
Hehe, call me again if you need me.
With that, Nyx disappeared or it was right to say Alex returned to his body.
He took the time to inspect himself to ensure there were no complications apart from his corrupted pneuma.
At that moment, he heard a voice call out to him.
"Alex... we won."
