Chapter 1004

With a pull, she drew him back.

Morris gasped in surprise, looking at her.

"How—how did you do it? Where did you buy this?"

"If you don’t talk today, you won’t get rid of me."

Morris frowned, "You’re not likable at all."

Without a word, Chloe Collins tightened her grip little by little.

Morris felt his wrist tighten with a force, his eyes constricting instantly. He immediately yelled, "Stop, stop, stop! I’ll tell you, ok? Just don’t ruin my hand, I’ve got exams!"

Chloe relaxed her grip, but not the rope.

Morris continued, "He’s gone to the frontline."

"What!"

Morris spread his hands, "I was the one supposed to go there on behalf of my family, but I have an exam. Since he needed me, I let him go. It was voluntary. He’d be back in about a week."

He shrugged, "Now you know, so let me go."

Chloe looked surprised for a moment, swiftly retracted the silver thread and turned to walk towards the doorway.

Morris stepped in front of her, "Are you going to look for him? Forget it. The country is on alert, you can’t pass without a travel permit."

Chloe looked up, her gaze icy cold. "Even if the heavens tried to block me, it couldn’t, if I wanted to go."

She shifted her gaze and walked away.

Back in the hotel, she started researching the current situation on the border on her computer.

It was looking bleak.

These four words were an apt description.

She closed her computer, thinking for a long time.

Just then, Alexander Foster gave her a call.

She took a deep breath and picked up the call.

A gentle male voice came through first, "Chlo-Chlo."

"Mm," she replied. Suddenly, she felt a wave of emotions. A complex taste of bitterness stuck in her throat and wouldn’t leave. She unconsciously buried herself in the blankets, resting her head on the soft pillow. She closed her eyes.

On his side, one could faintly hear gunfire which, at first, sounded like firecrackers.

"What’s wrong? Are you unhappy?" Alexander Foster asked.

Her voice was slightly muffled, "How can you agree to such a demand? Are you crazy?"

He must have found out something from Morris to call her suddenly.

As expected, he fell silent for a moment. He didn’t question her on how she knew. He only said, "This is the easiest way. There are other ways but they are not as direct and effective. I don’t want to wait anymore."

She was silent, seemingly only able to hear her own voice and the windy sound from the other end of the line. The rustling noise was enough for her to imagine the harshness of the frontline.

"Chlo-Chlo." He suddenly called her. His voice, loaded with fatigue and hoarseness from staying awake day and night, said, "Without you in this world, I would go insane."

He paused for a moment, then continued in a more relaxed tone, "Such a thing won’t happen. There are still so many things in this world waiting for me. I can’t go insane. You can’t die either."

Chloe was stunned for a moment. Then, she opened her eyes wide and stared at the ceiling.

Her eyes blinked slightly after a long time, the bitterness in her eyes seeming to have faded as her eyes opened.

Once the tart taste in her throat had subsided, she slowly said, "After the exam, I’ll be waiting for you at the hotel entrance. If you don’t come, I won’t leave."

With a press on the end call button, she put the phone down, closed her eyes, and remained motionless for a long time.

From the next room, Wanda Wesley watched this scene. Her eyes were filled with sympathy and reluctance.

She didn’t dare to disturb Chloe.

Indeed, she had hardly ever seen Chloe in such a vulnerable state.
