His Toxic Addiction -
Chapter 91: Particularly her sadness.
Chapter 91: Particularly her sadness.
Arissa must confess. She was tired, tired of everything and she unconsciously closed her eyes, drawing strength from his soft lips on her forehead, and when he backed away, she felt a little empty again but at least, she felt more okay than a while ago.
"Go home, Arissa," Nicklaus advised, hiding a few locks of her hair behind her ear. "or where ever you were going," he added and could not help but brush his hand on her skin, enjoying how soft they were.
"Without the guards?" Arissa questioned, not minding what he was doing. Whereas, she felt good about it.
"With the guards, Arissa," Nicklaus clarified and Arissa frowned upon his words.
"Seriously? Are we still on that?"
"Yes," Nicklaus responded casually as he massaged between her brows to stop her from frowning.
Arissa raised her hand and yanked his hand off her face before taking a step back.
"Thats_"
"You are going to the hospital, right?" Nicklaus questioned, cutting her off from her intended protest.
"I don’t want to go with your guards," she complained, trying to make him see the same reasons as hers.
Nicklaus chuckled, "Suit yourself then. I have a meeting to attend in the next five minutes,"
And with that, Nicklaus turned away from her and walked back to his desk. He can’t start up an argument again.
They have argued a lot in just one day and it’s either she stays here or she leaves with her new guards.
Arissa stood at the spot transfixed.
Seeing him seated in his seat, staring at her with a drenched expression, she could not help but want to cut off all ties between them because, from the start, they only dried the next person up, and now, it was her freedom.
Her parents took the bigger portion of her freedom away which she’s still looking for a way to break free from and now, he just took away the last one she has. She can’t even freely roam around the city any longer.
’Why is my life this way?’ she thought.
Parting her lips, "I_" she gulped and with a dejected face, she played with her fingers. What she was about to say might help them both but the sudden reluctance to say it left her nervous.
Nicklaus sat up as he raised his left brow at her. She always speaks her mind, untrammeled and unafraid so, what’s the deal with her sudden nervousness and the fact that she was nervously fiddling with her nails left him both surprised and amused.
"I want an_" She started again but trailed off. This time around, Nicklaus could not help but raise his brow with encouragement for her to speak up.
From what he has grabbed, she wants something and it would be something he can offer because apparently, he has everything so, why was she hesitant to tell him about it?
Arissa looked into his eyes and his emotionless face told her to rethink what she wanted to tell him about.
And then, after two seconds of staring into his eyes, she saw an expression. He was waiting, waiting for her to speak up.
The sudden expression strengthened her and without thinking, she parted her lips and let the words flow out, "I want an open marriage," she dropped her whole hanging request, and the air in the room suddenly turned stuffy.
Nicklaus’s eyes darkened and Arissa had to look away from him because his eye was suddenly burning her. Her blood ran cold when Nicklaus suddenly had a killing aura all over him. He stood up from his seat and his face explained he’d had enough of her already and she was sure something bad would happen to her.
Arissa took two steps back when she saw him walking towards her and the rage in his eyes was unmistaken as he burnt her with the flames in his eyes and with each step he took towards her, her heart leap in fear - fear of the unknown.
’Why is he so mad with my proposal when we only drain ourselves further,’ Arissa asked herself quietly in her thoughts.
And before she knew it, Nicklaus was five steps away from her. With shaky feet, she stood fearlessly and waited for him to get to her and maybe, hit her to get her brain back in order.
What made her think he would grant her an open relationship when it’s her side of the contract that needed help?
His father already said on the day she signed the contract that his son would be with any woman he wants so why did she think she can be on the same level as him to the point of looking outside her marriage? Her position right now was to take whatever this marriage offers her and try her best to tolerate them all until the time frame expires.
Realizing her situation and position in the marriage, her knee turned weak but she did not let that weakness get to her expression as she raised her face to him expressionlessly.
"What di_"
Nicklaus was about to coldly snap at her but when he saw her eyes, the sadness in them was so broken and unmistakable and bad for her, the mask she wore did nothing to hide them.
His whole rage suddenly disappeared without a trace as if they never existed and when she kept on forcing her emotions to be strong, he knew she was waiting for what his reply would be.
Calming himself, he ran his fingers through his hair - an action that surprised Arissa.
"Why did you suggest that?" Nicklaus questioned her. It was a struggle. Each second he spent with her was torture because for as long as he could remember, he never do emotions but the more he stay around her, the more she challenged his emotions and his walls always dropped with every one of her fucking emotions - particularly her sadness.
Her sadness was the worst of all of her emotions. He doesn’t know if it was because he saw them frequently or maybe something else was attached, he doesn’t know but each time he sees her sad, only one intention covers his sanity, and that was to tear apart the person who was making her sad or give in to her but lately, he had been the only person hurting her and with her current wish, he can’t give into it.
Arissa blinked at the sudden calm voice he used in questioning her. She could not help but blink before searching his eyes but looking deep down into his eyes, although they were cold, they held care in them and she could not help but question her sanity.
’Am I seeing things?’ She thought to herself.
"So we would be happy even in this draining act. We just have different partners outside and be happy_"
"I know how it works Arissa," Nicklaus cut her off her explanation he wasn’t able to help it as he growled at her this time around.
Arissa blinked, startled by his sudden tune. Why was he so complicated? The time he was mad at her and was supposed to use this tune, he turned gentle only for him to growl when she least expected.
"Tell me, do you like someone else?" he questioned her, moving closer to her.
The thought of seeing her happy with another man did not sit well with him and the moment Arissa took a step away from him, he forcefully hugged her waist and drew her into his chest.
Due to how he suddenly pulled her in, Arissa could only part her lips and widen her eyes in shock and before she would recover from the shock that came with his hand holding her waist so possessively, he leaned closer to her face.
Arissa thought he would kiss her and with that thought, she titled her head away from his devilishly handsome face, away from those sinful lips of his, as she stared at the door.
At that moment, she had forgotten he do not do kisses.
Nicklaus’s eyes darkened more with what she just did and his hold on her waist tightened and he pressed her closer to his chest.
Leaning to her ear he passed his message, "You would be with no one except me, and the seconds you use in thinking about an open relationship, I suggest you use that time on thinking about how we would make this work because I assure you. If you see any other man when we haven’t formalized our divorce, you would only help to end him," he planted a kiss on her neck, "In the most painful way," he added and Arissa’s fists trembled.
Deep down, his words startled her.
Arissa came back to her senses when he finished his warning. Raising her both hands to his chest, she pushed him off.
The moment she stood solidly, she gave him a good face-turning slap.
"You are an asshoe," she yelled at him with venom at the tip of her tongue and without waiting for him to reply, she turned to the couch and picked up her white Channel mini flip bag.
Nicklaus gritted his teeth and looked at the hand she just used in slapping him. So delicate and at the same time harshly hurtful.
"I wasn’t joking about what I said," he warned and Arissa could only glare at him before walking out of the door in disbelief.
