Chapter 90: Extreme measures to keep her safe.
Chapter 90: Extreme measures to keep her safe.
The door of Nicklaus’s office was suddenly opened from the outside without a knock. The occupants in the office raised their heads to see who had such guts to walk in on them that way.
But, lifting their faces, their frown immediately dropped and they immediately swallowed the speeches they were about to make concerning the sudden rude outburst.
Nicklaus’s countenance softened the moment he saw who just walked in while Geal’s taunting smirk was unbeatable.
"Leave us," Nicklaus ordered the two businessmen before him, noticing how heated Arissa’s glare on him was. She seems enraged about something and the fact that it’s her first time visiting him, it added to his consciousness.
Or, did something happen when he left the house? Was she dissatisfied with the service rendered by his doctor?
Shutting his eyes for a split second, he mentally and emotionally prepared himself for whatever her reason for coming here was.
Arissa gave a polite smile to the two businessmen as they walked out of the office and as faced Nicklaus, her glare continued.
The air around the office suddenly turned dangerous the moment the two businessmen left with the acknowledgment that it was the CEO’s wife who just walked in.
"Nicklaus, how could you?" she threw her first question at him when they shut the door behind her.
Arissa was fed up. What the hell is this? One moment they would be okay and the next moment, they would be on each other tails again and if you ask her, he’s always the one starting up the arguments.
Geal frowned with the air between the two and with the question Arissa just asked his friend, something wrong seemed to be going on.
Nicklaus flashed her a soft gaze before turning sideways towards Geal.
"Geal, privacy," Nicklaus ordered when he saw his bug of a friend was still comfortably seated and seemed eager to hear what their argument would be about.
Geal turned to Nicklaus with a hot glare. Facing Arissa, his gaze turned gentle, "Did something happen?" Geal asked and Arissa could only roll her eyes at him and fixed her heated glare back on Nicklaus.
For Geal, she doesn’t want to talk to him - for now at least, until she would be able to forgo that lingerie embarrassment incident.
"Geal, I said privacy," Nicklaus instructed and this time, his voice wasn’t neutral but it was now irritated but still, Geal did not bug.
"Come and have a seat," Geal gestured his hand to the ash couch across him. Nicklaus forgot his manners by keeping his wife standing so before he leaves, he have to teach his friend some manners.
Arissa turned to Geal and her glare loosened up. He was beginning to show how good and thoughtful he was so, it would be wrong for her to still be mad at him so, flashing him a warm smile, she turned to Nicklaus but the look in Nicklaus’s eyes wasn’t pleasing to see and luckily, it wasn’t directed to her but to his friend.
"Geal privacy, please," Arissa spoke up when she saw the way Geal wasn’t bugging even when Nicklais looked like he would tear him apart anytime soon.
Geal’s jaw clenched when he had no other choice but to obey since it was a command coming from his pretty damsel.
Eying Nicklaus, he proceeded to leave but getting to the door, he stood before Arissa and with a harmless smile, he took Arissa’s wrist in his,
Nicklaus’s jaw tightened and his heart clenched dangerously seeing how casually Geal was holding his wife before him to make things more irritating, Arissa did not refuse Geal rather, she allowed Geal to lead her to the couch - hand in hand.
And after earning another smile from Arissa, Geal finally left the office. Nicklaus could not help but thin his lips and possible thoughts that Geal might have an eye on his woman swamped into his mindset.
But knowing Geal never touch what was his, he took that thought off his mind before turning away from the door and towards his wife.
They said nothing but only stared at each other in silence until Nicklaus break the silence by drumming on his desk casually with his long fingers.
"What do you want?" Nicklaus asked, ending his drum absurdly when she did not speak up but only stared at him.
"Why did you do that?"
Nicklaus raised his right brow, as he stared at her with confusion concerning her sudden question.
"Do what?" Nicklaus asked.
Arissa clenched her fists as if she would punch that smug face of his any time soon if he keeps on acting coy.
"Why did you_"
"Straight to the point Arissa," he warned her. He hates playing words but each time they are together, she would make sure he speaks more than necessary and it only leaves him with a headache.
"Why did you order your guards to follow me around?" Arissa snapped at him as his domineering aura strangled her.
She felt helpless around him whenever he turns superior and it leaves her irrational with her emotions.
Nicklaus calmed down the moment she started her reason for coming down here. He inhaled and exhale as his heartbeat turned back to normal.
Initially, he had thought she had found out he kissed her last night and for that reason, he had felt his heart hanging on a thread rope and the relief that washed over him with her petty reason was unexplainable.
"To keep you safe," He answered her calmly as he relaxed back into his seat.
"That’s impossible," Arissa hissed. "I’m always safe. How am I sure you did not place this order to satisfy your ego of being in control,"
Nicklaus blinked as he tried to steady his emotions and not snap at her. Yes, initially he asked his men to follow her for her safety and his ego was also involved but seeing what happened last night and knowing that Logan Paul of a person already have her father, he could not help but put in extra measures to keep her safe. Thinking about it, she have to rest until tomorrow when her arm would finally heal fully.
He did not order ordinary guards to be with her. They were more on the inside.
"That’s not it. I only want to keep you safe," Nicklaus explained.
Arissa frowned as she stood up from the couch, "I don’t want your protection, Nicklaus. I’ve been doing it before you came into my life,"
Nicklaus sat up with her claim.
"Calm down, Arissa," he advised her when he felt her anger limit about to exceed the required anger over this issue.
She can get angry. He approves of that, knowing how she values her freedom but with how her aura was changing back and forth between confusion, sadness, and fear, he have to calm her first before she burst out more than expected.
Arissa swallowed taking his advice and her eyes pricked with unshed tears. She no longer understands herself and she feels like she would go mad anytime soon but what does he do, he only infuriates her more, and now, he was telling her to calm down.
She was beginning to hate herself with her constant unorganized emotions and it only occurs around him to the point where she no longer has the power to mask her emotions well. It kills her.
"Hey," Nicklaus called with a surprised voice when he saw how hard she was making an effort just to be in one piece. Taking long strides, he stood before her in a minute.
"What’s it?" he asked with concern and what made him more curious to know what went wrong, was the fact that she did not even back away when he held both of her hands.
"It’s okay," Nicklaus assured her when he felt her emotions everywhere.
There were no tears in her eyes and her face was perfectly normal but he could tell she was fighting an emotion inside her.
Lowering his face a little, he placed his lips on her forehead with a slight kiss and after a split second, he stood straight again.
