Chapter 86: Bondage marriage.
Arissa was all flustered with his very close appearance but she tried to be calm and in control so she would not add up to his huge ego. Her heart pounded on her ribcage and she turned breathless when his face leaned in to take a clear view of her arm.
Arissa pulled her eyes away before they would bleed as she began to question her sanity.
Nicklaus raised his face to her and stared into her eyes. Arissa’s lips parted in response as she gulped not knowing the reason she was feeling this way.
"You were mingling with your father’s crimes," Nicklaus stated holding her gaze.
Arissa’s heart skipped a beat as she came back to reality with his words. She frowned at him and her eyes went back to his hand on her arm and back to his face. She was logically telling him to take his hand off her but Nicklaus was too overbearing to take orders from her.
Arissa also did not clarify his logic. From the way he remarked his thought, he sounded so sure and it irked Arissa that he was prying on her privacy.
Seeing her discomfort to talk about the topic, he changed it, "My doctor would be here soon," Nicklaus informed her and he shifted closer to her. Arissa shifted back, staring daggers at him, and highly irritated, she twat his hand off her shoulder.
Covering her shoulder with the shirt, she eyed him, "You don’t have to do that. I also have a doctor," she rejected his help, pointing out the fact that she doesn’t need his help.
It was late last night and that was why she came back straight home to avoid suspicions from night patrols - so, to hell with his help.
Nicklaus’s eyes turned hazy with rage as her statement made him remember that scumbag that had the audacity of confessing love to his wife before him.
Pushing the thought of her doctor aside since he does not want them to start arguing about that, he asked, "How did this happen?" picking up that topic again.
His voice was now demanding and dominant. It annoyed Arissa and without answering him, she knelt on the bed and proceeded to stand up.
Nicklaus relaxed on his bed and just watched her. She should stop with that reasoning of always having her way because with him, she would have no way and right now if she do not answer him, she would not walk out that door.
Halfway to the door, Arissa remembered there would be no passage unless through him. She turned to him, her eyes demanding the door pins or a card.
Nicklaus sat straight and kept on staring at her. With the way he was staring at her, Arissa turned aggravated. It was as if she was some kind of entertainment.
Nicklaus’s eyes on her were unwandering. With her glare and messy morning hair, he would say that he was star-struck by her morning beauty.
So natural and flustered.
He wasn’t the type who has a lady p*ssy twice but with her endless innocent seduction, he have to admit that he wants her, over and over again.
Arissa bit her lower lip in thought. She felt suffocated even with the large space in the room. This wasn’t her space so, she wants to be out by all means.
"I want to leave this place," she pointed out since Nicklaus do not want to get her message without a word from her.
Nicklaus stared at her for a few seconds more before parting his lips, "You would have died,"
Arissa blinked in surprise. It took her five seconds for her brain to recollect and understand what he was saying.
She gulped, wondering why he brought up such a topic when she was only asking for his door card. But on the other side, the realization of his words sank in her and she trembled with the eye-opening.
If the arrow had hit a vital spot, she would have lost her life.
Nicklaus felt the air around her less edgy and her walls were gradually going down. He also saw fear in her eyes but they were little and the good thing was - that little fear can also help.
Since he want to knock senses into her, he continued, "And when you die, what next?" Nicklaus hit the nail. The thought of her dying did not sit well with him but he tried his possible best not to show it, his voice was also low so she would not be upset.
Arissa might be sober now and that doesn’t mean he could predict her next emotion and with that, he has to tackle her well.
He has to be calm and gentle with her.
Arissa froze. Even her breathing stopped.
What he said was real and she could not help but raise her eyes to connect with his eyes. His words now just sent deep fears into her but on the outside, she only allowed a half percent of that fear to show.
Seeing how she rigidly stood there, Nicklaus stood up from the bed and stood towards her, not backing down from her stare.
Standing two steps away from her, he added, "What you are doing is far more dangerous than you think. You only know the outer surface of it all,"
Arissa broke the gaze and her eyes went to his fireplace. His voice and words were covered with care but under it, she felt like he was manipulating her.
Not knowing why she felt that way, she looked at him again, "Why do you care if it’s dangerous or if I die?"
Nicklaus frowned and his eyes darkened at her question. Wasn’t the answer obvious?
"That’s because you are my wife," he delivered her with an answer to her ridiculous question.
Arissa blinked. Just that? Just because she was his wife and nothing more?
She unexpectedly felt disappointed and she also wanted more reasons to be added to his list of why he cared. Why would he care only for the fact that she was his wife - his wife in this loveless marriage?
Frowning she continued, "If that’s it, you don’t have to care." she hisses at him, "They are my family, not yours..," she trailed off, trying to calm down as she was almost to the point of yelling at him in frustration.
She yearned for more. She wanted him to care for more reasons but the asshole only cares about her because she’s his wife. How annoying!
She felt so disheartened right now.
Folding her arms in her chest with a ruined expression, she added, "My parents would be so grateful to you since you played the best role in ruining me. You should be the last person to care if I die because honestly, I die with each second I spend in this bondage marriage," she finally yelled, emphasizing her last two words cause it now hurts her so much.
Nicklaus felt insulted and hurt by her outburst. Did he ruin her? But how?
His family gave her the chance to accept or reject the marriage and in her best interest, she accepted the marriage and now she’s putting the blame on him and saying he ruined her. How dare her?
"Do you ever listen to someone?" he asked, "What you did last night was drastic, and no matter what, bondage or no bondage, you are my WIFE and if it doesn’t sit well with you, why don’t you make the hands of the clock run faster,"
Nicklaus pointed out, and unknowingly to him, he did it in the most unkind and hurtful way.
Arissa’s eyes stood wide in shock. She took a step back and at that moment, two slips of tears left both of her eyes.
Immediately, she used the back of her palm to clean them. She wasn’t meant to cry. He was only telling her the truth but no matter how she tried to accept her marriage, it still hurts deeply whenever it was mentioned and with the way he mentioned it, it broke her.
"Shit," Nicklaus cursed under his breath when he saw how she took his word. He took a step towards her, "Arissa I_" he stopped talking when she stepped back.
