Chapter 87: Last Night.
"Arissa please," he finally pleaded when she took the third step away from him.
Arissa did not say anything but just stood still with her red eyes looking at him. The fact someone like him was capable of pleading came as a surprise to her but still, the hurt of his words lingered around her chest and heart.
Seeing she was now standing still, Nicklaus took a step forward but to his irritation, she took two steps back, shaking her head in denial, telling him not to come closer.
Arissa tilted her head to the door and back to him, "I have to go,".
Nicklaus’s jaw clenched and he passed his eyes over to the door. He looked back at her. Not knowing what to say to her, he just looked over to his balcony, "The card is in there. In between the books,"
Turning away from her, he walked away from her. Leaving the room would be better for both of them since the air was unhealthy and hot with their negative emotions.
Arissa thinned her lips and gulped her saliva when his broad back faced her. She felt hurt but replaying what happened a while ago, she also said some hurtful words to him, and she did it first.
Parting her lips, "I’m sorry," she apologized. It was hard for her to say the words since she was never used to them but she still said it.
Her words were more hurtful while he only stated the truth. Nicklaus did not reply to that. Rather, he said, "My doctor would be here in the next twenty minutes, so I think it’s best if you get ready and wait for him,"
Yes, she’s annoying to his bone marrow but at the same time, he wants her in good health before they talk about other things, and for her apology, she should drop it. He was not yet in the mood for that.
Nicklaus sat on his couch and faced her when he noticed she seemed to have no plans of moving. Or, doesn’t she loath his presence any longer?
"What is it, Arissa?" he asked when she kept staring at him. And it wasn’t that spacing-out admiration gaze. It was as if she wanted something from him - which was wired.
After a minute of hesitation, "What happened last night?" Arissa asked. This time, her voice was soft and gentle. She needs answers so it was only natural that her voice calmed down.
"Last night?" Nicklaus murmured.
The question took Nicklaus by surprise and he smiled before he knew what was happening to him. Last night was fun and if you ask him, he had his best night with his worries a thousand miles away.
Arissa blinked in fear when she saw him smile. She hasn’t seen him smile before but the sides of her lips raised mildly, unable to resist that beautiful smile of his.
"Nothing happened last night," he responded indifferently "I only helped you up because you were drunk,"
Arissa’s brows formed an arc with disbelief.
Tucking the shirt, "The shirt? Why did you have me changed?" she asked with a beet-red face. Her drunk self wasn’t a good person. God! What did she do last night? She surely has embarrassed herself in a million.
Nicklaus raised his brow to stop himself from laughing at her expression, with a ghost smile, he explained.
"The alcohol was much for your system and you just puked on me,"
Arissa froze. Does that mean her assumption was right?
Was he the one that had her changed? Did she say or do crazy things?
Arissa’s lips parted in disbelief as her dreamy eyes blinked with the question of who changed her shirt as she stared at him.
Relaxing on his chair, he was highly entertained by her comical expressions. His eyes traveled down to her plump lips.
Those lips.....oh hell! he maddening wants to kiss them again.
Taking a deep breath and pulling his eyes off her lips, he lied, "I told Lyra to change you,"
"Oh," Arissa mouthed, and remembering something, she asked again, "Did I say words," gesturing with her fingers she emphasized, "like anything?"
Nicklaus kept his eyes glued on her for a while as he contemplated if he should tell her the whole truth especially now that she was all calm or he should just add one more lie.
One more wouldn’t hurt, right?
"You said nothing," he straightened up on his seat, "Truth is when I came back, you were fast asleep on the bar counter so, I just helped you up and had Lyra clean you up," he answered genuinely with no hole left to suspect on.
He would tell her the whole truth when it was time and if she would want a video of it due to disbelief, he would show it to her.
Last night was so good and fun to him that after checking the house footage last night, he saved that part and turned it into a disk plate.
Arissa released a deep exhale as she calmed down. Jocelyn told her that whenever she gets drunk, she cries a lot and says annoying irritating words so the fact that no one saw her when she was awake and drunk was a saving grace.
Nicklaus secretly licked his lower lip with amusement seeing how relieved she was with the lies he had just spurred out.
Well, lying isn’t as hard as he thought they were but technically this would be the last lie he would convey.
And without waiting for another moment, she walked into his balcony and picked up the card from it.
"You can keep the card," Nicklaus offered when she walked out of his balcony room. Arissa stopped walking.
She looked at him. The fact that he wants her to keep his room card was endearing. She instantly felt flushed.
Smiling, she shook her head, "No thanks, I would have no reason to be in here anymore,"
Swiping the card on the door, she turned to him with an expression that could be passed as a smiling face. Throwing the card into the room, she turned the knob of the door and left the room.
A little grin spread all over Nicklaus’s lips when she left the room. His eyes went down to the card on the floor and his grin turned into a smile.
"At least, my morning went well," he mussed with a wider smile.
