Chapter 78: Out of sight, out of mind.
Arissa almost passed out from the pain.
Packing her motorcycle at a corner of the garage, she took stumbling steps into the house.
Her bleeding has stopped for now but there was one problem right now. All the stores were closed and there was no possible way for her to get a painkiller and now, she was being eaten in and out with pain.
Mrs. Wyatt wasn’t home. She noticed it this morning because when she woke up, she was the only one in the penthouse, and the maid named Rue.
Going into her room, she shut her door and pressed her back on it. She slumped down and drew in a long painful breath, closing her eyes in discomfort.
She felt like her arm was being ripped out. Gritting her teeth, she struggled to her bed. With teary eyes, she took off her clothes and walked into the bathroom. Standing before her large full body mirror, she thanked her lucky stars that it wasn’t so big but surely, it was deep.
She would try to get past this night and first thing in the morning, she would visit a hospital. Getting to her champagne-pink jacuzzi, she used a small napkin to wash the blood off over arm first.
Giving herself a layman first aid since she saw no first aid kit around or anywhere, she washed up and put on a black t-shirt.
"God," she murmured as she dropped on her bed softly, "I would surely end you, Mr. Lincoln," She swore and a drop of tears slip from her eyes.
From her vanity table, her phone beeped but she had no strength to pick it up so, she just laid down on her bed ignoring it and five more calls and notifications came around.
"Fuck you, Mr. Adams," she snarled, knowing who was calling her repeatedly.
He would have tried to convince her that the dangers were this serious but he did not. He only told her the place was dangerous and never tried to convince her.
[A/N: Would you have listened if he tried convincing you?]
Seating up on her bed, she remembered something. She had low tolerance to alcohol and right now, there was no one at home so, if she could get drunk, she would have the pleasure of forgetting about her injury.
With that thought, she headed downstairs.
....
It was always out of mind, out of sight but sadly, that doesn’t include Arissa when it comes to Nicklaus.
There had been no calmness in his mind ever since he informed his men to step back from following her. He honestly wants to have his watch on her all day long but he can’t.
That would just keep on hurting her and seeing her fear of cameras and the media, he had ordered his men to step away so she can breathe with ease.
Ending his night by taking care of the marketing department, Nicklaus finished the coffee in his mug. Calling his secretary in to take care of his table, Nicklaus packed up and ended for the existing night with his mind at a thousand places.
After almost an hour’s drive, he got to the penthouse. Retiring his driver for the night, he walked into the penthouse.
With a cold mask on, he walked up the staircase but just a foot up, he saw a figure under the staircase, precisely at his wine wall, with a bottle to herself.
He swallowed and his eyes turned sharp when he recognized that shiny copper-brown hair under the living room’s low glow.
’Why is she there?’ he thought.
He was about to ignore her and walk up to his room but he stopped when he saw her standing up not only that, she was saying some low meaningless words that Niclaus could not help but drop his briefcase on the staircase and turned to face her.
Nicklaus moved close to Arissa. Standing two steps away from her, he still did not understand what she was saying but he grabbed something.
Her laughter. She was laughing and Nicklaus’s cold mask dropped but not completely. She laughed again and this time, he wasn’t able to resist it as Nicklaus gave out a hideous smile when she laughed again.
Noticing a strange presence around her, Arissa tried turning around to know who it was. Her head swayed forward forcefully with drowsiness and before she would stop herself, her ankle twisted and she lost her balance.
"_ougff," she breathed forcefully when rather than kissing the floor, her head hit something as hard as a rock.
And with a drunk instinct up, she used her fist, and without reasoning, she hit the surface of what held her. Still stuck with that thing or rather someone, she felt an arm round her waist, straightening her from her bent potential falling position.
And with furrowed brows, she continuously hit on the hard rock in a fight to be free from the person holding her.
Nicklaus frowned and his jaw clenched with her continuous hitting not because it hurt, but because he felt she wasn’t safe with him. Rather than getting mad at her, he held her tight.
Arissa turned confused when the person holding her did not back off and when that overpowering masculine scent hit her nostril, she stopped hitting and also, stopped fighting to be free rather, she hugged the person back, and for a moment she let her guard down, burying her face in his chest and after a while, she parted the hug. Dropping her chin on his chest, she looked up at him with misty eyes and a red flushed face from alcohol, she figured out who he was from his scent.
The scent she was becoming used to.
Blinking innocently, "Lone Alpha," Arissa muttered, there was surprise in her voice and then, she raised her hand and traced his sharp jawline with her slender fingers to be sure.
The alcohol has taken a reasonable share of her rationality.
Nicklaus moved his eyes over to the wine bottle and he could not help but sigh. Her alcohol tolerance was low so why would she - and immediately, his eyes went over to the name and brand of the wine bottle.
"_Zinfandel wine?" he murmured and frowned immediately. Did she plan on passing out with alcohol?
She had taken almost half of the bottle and with the realization, his face became extremely furious and cold.
Arissa blinked when his aura changed from warm to cold and she immediately got the wrong message, "Are you mad at me because of the scandal concerning my name?" she asked curiously, tilting her head when she saw his cold furious expression.
And in the next second, Arissa leaned into his chest. Nicklaus inhaled when her vanilla hair wash scent wafted into his nose.
