Chapter 297: Time To Stop Feeding His Fear.
The news shocked the world.
In a world accustomed to the predictable and mundane, every once in a while, an act of such extraordinary nature occurs that it leaves the entire globe in a state of collective astonishment. Such a surprising event unfolded on this fateful day, capturing the attention of people from all walks of life.
The news rippled through the airwaves, spreading like wildfire across continents, igniting a spark of curiosity and disbelief in the hearts of humanity. It was an act so unexpected, so unconventional, that it defied all preconceived notions and shattered societal norms.
Most people did not believe that the well-respected and kind Alfred Lincoln could commit sins.
As the story unfolded, the world watched with bated breath, the air heavy with anticipation. People from every corner of the globe gathered around their television screens, glued to the breaking news reports, waiting to witness the unfolding of this remarkable spectacle.
Even the coffee shops and the street billboards displayed the news, expressing how serious the case was.
News anchors struggled to find words to describe the sheer audacity of the act, their voices filled with a mixture of astonishment, wonder, and hatred.
Social media platforms buzzed with hashtags and trending discussions, as people tried to make sense of what they were witnessing.
Evidence flowed everywhere as rain poured on the earth, leaving the people more confused and horrified.
In a world so often divided by politics, religion, and ideologies, this act managed to unite individuals from all walks of life. Strangers on opposite sides of the globe found common ground in their shared disbelief, engaging in impassioned debates about the motives and implications of the astonishing act.
Experts and analysts weighed in with their interpretations, attempting to decipher the underlying meaning and intent of the individual behind this act. Pundits tried to predict the ripple effects it would have on the world, attempting to grasp the long-lasting impact it would leave in its wake.
Somehow, a few of them foresaw how the morning news would affect the economy of the country.
No matter what they would say, Alfred Lincoln’s wealth softened the economy and now he would be in prison with no hope of leaving, It would take grace for the economy to remain the same.
Amidst the sea of astonishment, hushed hate, cusses, and fear, one prevailing sentiment emerged: a deep sense of admiration for the courage of whoever let the secrets of someone as untouchable as Alfred Lincoln out.
Nicklaus sent Alfred to prison but he made sure to be careful enough not to let his name out.
Sending Alfred to prison could already be tagged a great headache with the higher-ups and letting his name out would risk the life of Arissa whether he likes it or not.
Well now, Alfred was gone and all benefits from his marriage were left with the man. Right now, his marriage brought forth no benefit from the other party but the higher-ups must still promote him if he continues the marriage.
The higher-ups would not harm his parent in any form but since he had decided to terminate all binding contracts with Arissa and give her a proper marriage now her father’s issue had been erased, he knew the higher-ups would come for her and that was the reason why he was careful not to let his name out. For her safety.
And now, the name of the hero who let Alfred Lincoln’s secrets out was left hidden and mysterious but that did not stop most people from saying a heartfelt thank you to whosoever in their heart.
Arissa browsed through social media with a wide smile on her lips. She read through the articles and for the first time since she returned to this country, she felt fulfilled.
She said a small prayer in her heart to the soul of Adele’s baby and sent a quick text to Jocelyn.
And suddenly, she felt Nicklaus’s hand on her stomach moving slowly and before she knew it, he took her phone from her hand and placed it back on the lampstand.
"Sleep," he ordered her softly, "It’s too early to be going through your phone,"
Arissa faced him and placed both of her hands on his chest, "It’s 7:35 a.m. Do a businessman call that early?"
Nicklaus did not open his eyes but the side of his lip curled into a smile. Arissa stared at the lopsided smile Nicklaus gave her and smiled back at him.
Nicklaus’s morning face with ruffled hair looked exceptionally handsome and with that smile, he caused Arissa’s heart to fluster.
Her cheeks burned and she stretched upward and kissed his both eyelids. When she leaned off his face, Nicklaus’s dark eyes were staring back at her.
Arissa cupped his face with both hands and pressed a kiss on his forehead, "Thank you so much, Nicklaus," and once again, Arissa was close to tears.
Nicklaus smiled softly and brushed his thumb underneath her eyes to wipe away her tears even before they would fall.
He would have to admit, that her presence in life gave him all the sort of peace he had been searching for and he would want nothing more than for her not to forget his existence even if in the end he let her go.
He brought her close to himself and hugged her. Arissa pressed her face on his chest and swallowed her tears.
It was a beautiful and nice morning for both of them. As Arissa pressed her face on Nicklaus’s chest and caught the sounds of his heartbeat, she tried to summon the courage to ask for her place in his heart once more.
He caressed her head and said, "Just
Do not cry. Just don’t lie, betray, or let me down and I’ll do whatever you want and bring whoever or whatever you want before your feet," Nicklaus was determined.
Arissa took her face off his chest and looked into his eyes. Then she hugged his neck and sealed their lips together as if sealing the promise with the kiss.
The promise-sealing kiss awakened something from his past in Nicklaus but he fought hard to push it away and kiss her back.
Arissa would never be his mother so he does not have to keep on feeding that fear in his heart. It’s time he feeds the side that loves her to love her more without restraining or conditions.
Arissa parted the kiss, "I promise," she said softly, "I would never do any of those things to you."
Nicklaus took his hand off her waist and held her face. He stared deeply into her eyes before resting his forehead against hers, drawing strength from her to face what might be waiting in the future.
