Chapter 295: Body, Soul, Mind, And Heart.
Nicklaus’s breathing paused.
His eyes darkened shades more and in the next second, his expression softened and his eyes went back to normal.
Arissa who looked down at his hand did not realize the short emotionally troubled phase the man before her just went through.
Nicklaus calmed down. He brought his hand to her face and caressed her soft skin with his long and lean fingers.
She looked up at him, her eyes all bright and beautiful. Seeing that look in her eyes and how she looked at him, Nicklaus brushed his thumb across her lips and relished his heart in the sensation that she was with him. To him, that was an assurance that she would be his fully. Body, soul, mind, and heart.
He stared down at his tattoos and her accuracy stunned him the more, "What do you mean? Why did you say freedom?" he pressed on so she would divulge deeper.
What does she mean by what she just said?
Arissa smiled and placed a hand on his hand on her face. She ran her fingers through his own and smiled at him.
She parted her lips confidently, "The birds fly freely in the sky," she gave him an answer which she knew was stupid.
Nicklaus raised a brow at her. His brow demanded more words from what she offered as a reply.
Arissa chuckled and took her hand off his hand. They were in a compromising position right now with his other hand in between her legs.
She noticed their position but Nicklaus did not seem to be aware of it and strangely, she felt comfortable as if it was a regular sitting position.
She made herself comfortable before she replied absentmindedly, "From your logic about love and how cold you are, I feel there’s something or someone who still holds your heart," She tucked the baby strands of her hair off her face, "...and it also stops you from letting in the few new people who love you. So I believe the birds could be freedom from your demons, dark mental health, and all negativity,"
Right now, Arissa wasn’t speaking based on what Mrs. Wyatt opened up to her. Arissa was speaking from her heart and what his first two tattoos meant, letting him know how she truly felt about his life and emotions.
"The birds fly freely around the cloud with nothing obstructing their movement or limiting them and that is freedom. You’re hurt and you believe you will never be healed and no one will ever heal you. You are supposed to be free for all of that," she looked down at the bird again, "...but you are not. You let your past hold you down and take control of a few things you say and do,"
She licked her lower lip when she finished speaking and stared back into his eyes. She can vouge for the fact that she does not understand herself neither does she know where those words came from but she knew they came from somewhere.
Somewhere that wanted him to be free from his past and be free from all his hurts. She wants to see the whole of his goodness in there.
Nicklaus blinked and his lips parted in shock. He started at Arissa and something told him she wasn’t letting those words merely from her lips.
"Arissa_"
"Nicklaus," she cut him off, "What are we? Am I merely a contracted wife to you or am I more than a contracted wife to you?" the question popped in suddenly and she decided to ask as she was also curious.
Nicklaus adam apple bulged up and down as he gulped in shock. What happened to her heart? Did she switch her heart with someone else’s own? Also, how did this question add to what they talked about?
His jaw clenched trying to add up words to say to her without coming out completely truthful and at the same time not hurting her.
Recently, he doubted he meant something to her but now he could feel it. He means something strong to her and she does not hold back from letting him know.
He released a deep exhale and ran his finger through his dark hair, "Arissa, can we skip this for some other day?" he pleaded with difficulty.
Arissa held both sides of his face with her palm and bored her brown eyes into his dark ones, "Nicklaus, please give me an answer,"
"I can’t," he refused, trying to look away from her.
Arissa maintained her hold on his face, "You can, Nick. Give me a reply, What are we?" She needed a reply unless she might go crazy.
Nicklaus’s brows tightened. The more he stared at her almost pleading expression, the more his feelings turned weird and the more he felt more than just a person to her.
Also, why does she want an answer to a question like that? That alone was enough proof he was getting into her head and it made him chuckle.
He knows that look in her eyes, that look of; I do not want you to leave me. And it made him think he imagined things.
He had seen that look in the eyes of some women he took in for the night and could not mistake it but seeing it in her eyes, he doubted he still knew what that look looked like.
Or perhaps an imposter sat before him.
"Arissa, we_" he cut himself off.
Nicklaus became speechless and in the next second, he claimed her lips in his and pulled her to himself.
He needed answers and he had never heard that kisses could give answers. However, he somehow believed in this kiss he shared with her for a reply.
It amazes him how far he has come in his process of becoming a new person. And then, when he remembers he has a woman as a wife who he wants to become his best for, nothing amazes him anymore.
