Chapter 292: More About His Ex.

Chapter 292: More About His Ex.

Arissa placed her hand on her lips to stop herself from sobbing when she heard a knock on her door. Her sobs came out as a whimper as she listened.

"Arissa, it’s me," she heard Mrs. Wyatt speaking when she refused to open her door even after a series of knocks.

She released a low sigh, dried her tears, and stood straight. The knock resounded again and she cleared her throat before turning her door knob for Mrs. Wyatt to come in.

"Dear Lord," Mrs. Wyatt breathed, walking further into the room, "Why are you crying? What do you cry for?"

Arissa sniffed and forced out a smile but sadly, it came out weird and ugly. She dried her eyes with her fingers and stopped her tears from pouring.

Mrs. Wyatt used her fingers to dry Arissa’s eyes, "You have no reason to cry and it’s okay to feel the way you do because you are also human," she advised, coaxing Arissa to stop feeling any negative feelings she felt at the moment.

Arissa stepped away from Mrs. Wyatt and sat on the floor. She hugged her kneels to herself and stared down at her rug.

Arissa sniffed and spoke up with a low voice, "Are you sure it’s okay that I should feel something for your son?"

Mrs. Wyatt nodded and bent to her level. She lifted Arissa’s face with a finger, "It’s absolutely fine and no crime." she assured with a smile.

Arissa thinned her lips and looked down at her rug again, "What about her? Can you tell me more about her?" she asked, almost in a whisper.

Mrs. Wyatt’s brow ceased, "Her? Who’s her?"

Arissa whispered again, "Her, his ex," She raised her face to Mrs. Wyatt, "Nicklaus once told me that she was his first love and that she left him for her first love," she explained.

The skin between Mrs. Wyatt’s brows tightened in confusion, trying to understand what Arissa was talking about.

From what she knows, Nicklaus does not keep women for more than a night so where was the confusion coming from? What was Arissa talking about?

Arissa chuckled softly, "She is a strong woman to be able to damage Nicklaus as she has done,"

Mrs. Wyatt became more confused and then it hit her. First love? A woman? Damages? Wait, could it be that Arissa was asking about Nicklaus’s birth mother? Was his birth mother the woman she calls his ex?

Mrs. Wyatt stood up straight, "Did he tell you what her name could be?" she asked even if she had gotten an insight on who Arissa talked about.

Arissa shook her head, "I did not ask, I guess I was too jealous," she confessed with an awkward laugh at the end.

"Hmm!" Mrs. Wyatt finally got the whole story, "Let me tell you something," she gestured for Arissa to stand up from the rug.

Arissa stood straight and Mrs. Wyatt held her hand to the bed. Sitting on the bed with Arissa, she drew in a couple of sharp breaths and turned to Arissa with a smile.

"Nicklaus never had an ex," she began.

Arissa’s eyes widened to cut in but she held her tongue at the last moment waiting for Mrs. Wyatt to explain herself. Or perhaps, Mrs. Wyatt does not know about this woman.

"I’m not Nicklaus’s birth mother and the first love he told you about was all his mother," Mrs. Wyatt continued in one breath.

Arissa blinked, "What?" she asked softly, demanding an explanation or a repeat if possible.

Mrs. Wyatt released an exhale, "Nicklaus has gone through more than you could ever imagine and all of those things made him who he is today." She went further and Arissa could only part her lips and shut them with only surprised air escaping her lips.

Arissa was speechless beyond imagination.

Mrs. Wyatt scratched her palm and went on, "Nicklaus wasn’t born into this family, he was adopted into it. I wasn’t able to conceive and would never be able to according to medical reports so we adopted Nicklaus into our lives earlier."

Arissa’s heart melted listening to Mrs. Wyatt. Who told her that good people don’t exist?

"When we first adopted Nicklaus, he wasn’t able to talk due to trauma from what he had experienced from that tender age. My husband dug into the boy’s life and when we did, we saw all of it."

She paused and took in a deep breath of strength to go on.

Gathering a little strength, she decided to drop all of it at a go. Talking about Nicklaus’s past took a hard toll on her as a speaker, "Nicklaus watched his mother kill his father, right before him after giving him a kiss,"

Mrs. Wyatt’s words triggered something in Arissa’s mind and her body grew cold, remembering all the times he had refused to kiss her.

Her heartbeat slowed down, trying to control her emotions. She felt feverish hearing what Mrs. Wyatt had to say.

Her heart thumped loudly in her ribcage and guilt covered her. She never knew he had suffered this much and how could he still be able to stand her? She was a woman, or did he not hate the gender after what his mother did?

She parted her lips and struggled to breathe in from there and when she successfully did, her breathing fastened.

She felt as if she was drowning. His past choked the life out of her and she instantly became hot and uncomfortable. She became sweaty and unable to breathe without parting her lips.

Mrs. Wyatt noticed how hard it was for Arissa to digest the news and she placed a soothing hand on her back and patted her with comfort.

"Calm down," she advised, "Let’s step out and have dinner," she suggested they should have a change of environment, seeing Arissa’s current difficulty.

Arissa shook her head, "I think I want to be alone," she said, lying down on the bed. Her guilt of how hard she had been on him covered her.

"How old was he when you adopted him?" Arissa asked after a short moment of silence between her and Mrs. Wyatt without the older woman leaving the room.

Arissa’s voice came out shaking, ready to break down and Mrs. Wyatt refused to go into the conversation again.

Mrs. Wyatt placed a hand on Arissa’s hair, "Rest, for now, we can continue this conversation some other day. You don’t sound stable enough to listen to what I have to say right now,"
