Chapter 290: How It Feels Like To Be All Alone.
"Nicklaus," Mr. Wyatt chimed himself in when he saw the seriousness in his son’s face as he spoke, "A minute please,"
Nicklaus nodded. Taking his finger off Alfred’s shoulder, he cleaned it with a table napkin and tossed it away the moment he finished cleaning his finger thoroughly as if Alfred had a communicable disease and he had just touched him.
Done with that, he stepped aside with his father and still had his side eyes fixed sternly on Alfred.
"We can’t send him to jail, it’s not in our power. We would have the higher-ups to face if we do," Mr. Wyatt shared reasons with his son, using a hushed tune.
Nicklaus frowned, "You’re right," he nodded thoughtfully, "You can’t send him to jail but I can,"
Mr. Wyatt’s brows creased, "How? What do you have running in that head of yours? Do you have a plan if the higher try attacking the company because we made them one profit short?" he inquired.
Nicklaus’s face hardened, "Do you think I haven’t considered those bunch of lowlives you all look up to as gods? I kept this man walking even though it was an eyesore because of those bastards called higher-ups. I tried not to step on them but not anymore." his jaw clenched, "I have more than enough evidence against Alfred and if the higher-ups try anything stupid.." he chuckled, "...they would have me to run from,"
Mr. Wyatt chuckled proudly, "They aren’t called the higher-ups for nothing, son." he warned even if he would support Nicklaus in whatever he does.
"I know," Nicklaus agreed.
Mr. Wyatt nodded, glad he sent his message across to Nicklaus’s level of understanding, "You know you can step back for all of this. It was never your fight in the first place,"
Nicklaus did not reply to this. His eyes darted to Alfred and back to his father and without saying anything more, he excused himself and walked back to Alfred.
Mr. Wyatt stood still and stared at Nicklaus departing back. "It seems I would have to start accepting someone as more than just a contacted daughter-in-law," he murmured to himself.
He knew this feeling, Nicklaus’s current feeling and he doubted he could be wrong because he had felt it before and had also worn the shoes.
He never regretted adopting the man before him who was once a boy. If you ask him about one of his greatest achievements in life, Nicklaus growing into everything he would want the heir he never got a chance to have would be at the top of his list.
He was so proud of everything his boy had grown up to be and if Nicklaus had been able to love again, he would have been more than willing to accept that person into his household. He does not care who the person would be.
Homeless or not!
Nicklaus sat back on his initial seat and picked up his cutleries. Mr. Wyatt joined the table and just like that, both father and son began to eat.
The dining hall was silent, except for the cutlery’s sound as they kissed the plates and the loud heartbeat of a particular man beside Nicklaus.
However, father and son ate without a single care in the world. Alfred kept on staring at them with his throat all tightened up.
He felt like he could not breathe and that was reality. He wasn’t feeling like he couldn’t breathe but wasn’t able to.
Nicklaus’s words hunted him and for the fact he knew better, he has assured those words were promises.
A few minutes later, Nicklaus finished his meal without passing a single glance at Mr. Wyatt but only exchanged glances with his father.
He nodded at his father, using it as a means of appreciation for the meal although he couldn’t tell the taste of it.
Nicklaus turned his head to Alfred, "Since you do not want to eat, I would love to leave you with this as a piece of advice," he pulled his seat closer to Alfred, "I want you to eat up for physical strength as you would join the cell tonight."
Blood drained from Alfred’s face when he heard Nicklaus.
Nicklaus pinched the skin between his brows and as if the information he wanted to share now initially escaped his memory, he let out an apologetic chuckle and shared the news, "Your brother is sound and in good health. You can call your lawyer and when you do, your brother would have to testify and then, you two can meet again,"
Alfred’s heart missed three beats and his mouth glued together.
Nicklaus smirked wickedly, "Regardless, it doesn’t matter if you call a lawyer to your aid or not. It’s left for you to decide but whichever way, your case has already been settled as I do not want my father-in-law going through court stress with me," Saying this gave Nicklaus a breath of fresh air.
Finally, he would fulfill what Arissa had always wanted without her lifting a finger and finally, he could get closer to his wife and keep an eagle eye over Logan.
Alfred’s eyes stopped moving and his heart almost did. He looked so ashen, that he could pass as a dead person.
He never foresaw this. He never imagined things would turn out this way and he would come to lose this much.
Nicklaus felt like he should stop speaking but he felt fun saying things like this to the man before him. So he continued, "And in case you think Arissa would think about you, I want you to know that she’s sentimental to family members alone, and the moment I prove to her that you aren’t her father but Mr. Adams is, all atom of love and sentiment she has for you would vanish and you would understand how it truly feels to be all alone as you have done to the few survivors from your killing jounery in the past,"
Alfred who couldn’t blink began to blink rapidly and his heart beat fastened quickly. His chest heaved up and down and his blood pressure increased.
He gripped the table and struggled to breathe as he also prayed to faint and vanish away at the moment. But that did not happen and the difficulty he faced in breathing due to his fear only multiplied.
