His Toxic Addiction
Chapter 289: Fate And Destiny.

Chapter 289: Fate And Destiny.

Time passed slowly and Arissa enjoyed each of the seconds she spent conversing with Mrs. Wyatt.

Both women talked like best friends would do without holding back on anything. Their trust in the next person grew stronger in seconds.

Currently, they were preparing dinner in the kitchen but that did not stop the conversation from going on.

Mrs. Wyatt stirred the pot slowly and scoped out a little for Arissa. "Do you like how it tastes?" she asked, placing the spoon before Arissa’s lips.

Arissa parted her lips and drank in the small soup. Her eyes sparkled and her face brightened with a smile after she had tasted the soup.

"It’s amazing, I like it. Why don’t we add a little salt?" she suggested licking her lips.

Mrs. Wyatt chuckled and faced the pot with the spoon, "Just as I thought," she said picking up the salt.

None of the maids assisted them in cooking today. The kitchen was left for them alone and to Arissa, it was better this way. She preferred it.

Backed up by the privacy and wanting to know what being pregnant felt like, she asked, "Can I know how you felt when pregnant with Nicklaus? Like your cravings, struggles, and stuff like that?" She kept her voice neutral with a tiny bit of curiosity not to sound in a way Mrs. Wyatt would look at her with questioning eyes.

Mrs. Wyatt’s mood changed at the question. She turned to Arissa with a smooth smile that covered the small tears about to cloud her eyes and wondered if she should push the conversation over to where Nicklaus walked in and how he became their son or if she should leave that for her son to talk about with his wife when he feels more comfortable.

Arissa went on, "How did you feel whenever he kicked? Can I see a few of his baby albums?" She dropped all of her questions with a smile on her lips.

Mrs. Wyatt joined Arissa in smiling and then, she asked her a question, while trying to arrange her mind, "Are you expecting a baby?"

Arissa choked on her saliva and then she drew her lower lip into her mouth and licked it, trying not to giggle.

All the while she did this, Mrs. Wyatt stared at her expectantly and waited for her reply. Although she knew what the answer would be, Arissa’s smile as she licked her lips made her think otherwise.

Mrs. Wyatt walked closer to Arissa and scanned her, "Are you?" This time, her voice sounded serious and surprised.

Arissa laughed. She was fully back to her real self. The girl who would make Mr. Adams laugh hopefully just by her sight or a smile from her, the girl who made Richard stand up to bullies by her bias and childish encouragement.

They would be so proud to see her smile and laugh this way in the family she never wanted to be part of.

People say destiny lies in the hand of man but it seems as if fate doesn’t. Fate plays with whoever it wants to play with and playing with Arissa and Nicklaus destiny became its greatest win.

Fate brought them together but destiny would strengthen them together.

"You better stop playing with me this way," Mrs. Wyatt scolded her, reading the answer out of Arissa’s laugh.

Arissa stooped laughing, "We won’t have a baby now. Perhaps we would but before then, I want to be sure of what your son feels for me and how he sees me," she told Mrs. Wyatt in a firm voice.

Mrs. Wyatt’s eyes held understanding in them and she asked softly, "You would not terminate the contract if you both have a baby. Is that what you mean?"

Arissa nodded. "I would not want to." She gulped her saliva in, "I would want us to live as normal couples not bonded together by benefits and business,"

Mrs. Wyatt’s brow ceased, "Why?"

Arissa’s heart tightened and the temperature in the kitchen dropped. She shut her eyes, forced herself to open them again, and parted her lips, "Because_"

She cut herself off.

Arissa released a pent-up frustrated exhale and ran her fingers through her hair. She tried to smile but it wasn’t working and that made her to be more frustrated.

Mrs. Wyatt returned her focus to the food. Covering the pot with a lid, she reduced the oven and switched it off before facing Arissa again.

She took Arissa’s hands in hers. She bent a little to the hands level, placed soft kisses on them, and stood straight again.

Staring Arissa in the eyes, she began, "I know it would be hard to leave your kids or your kid somewhere else where you would not always be with them. And for someone like my son, he might remarry again if he remains under the higher-ups after you leave. From there, a stepmother would come in, and trust me I would not let your kids be manhandled by anyone. I understand my promise would not make you think otherwise and neither do I want you to change your decision on this." she brought her hand to Arissa’s cheek and caressed the right one, "I’m only saying this because I feel there’s more to your hesitations and to the reason why you want to build a home before your children arrival. If I am correct by saying that there are more reasons, can you trust me and tell me what that reason might be?" she tried to coax Arissa into letting her words out.

Arissa weakly turned away from Mrs. Wyatt. She pressed both of her hands on the marble kitchen island for support as she fixed her eyes down and refused to look up.

"It is...." she shut her eyes and raised it, facing the ceiling, "It is because I...I think I love your son, Mrs. Wyatt,"

A sudden gasp left Mrs. Wyatt’s mouth but she wasn’t the only one who let out a gasp. The uninvited person gasped louder with words saying, "You are in love with Nicklaus?"
