Chapter 288: Healed Her Heart.

Mrs. Wyatt felt there was something more to the hug, especially when she began to feel Arissa’s vulnerable side. This was her first time feeling such emotion from her daughter-in-law and it left her in question.

"Are you alright?" Mrs. Wyatt asked, her voice motherly and filled with concern. She tried to pull away from the hug to see Arissa’s face but Arissa refused.

Arissa held Mrs. Wyatt closer, buried her face into the woman’s neck, and whispered, "I am alright. I want us to be this way for a few more seconds,"

Mrs. Wyatt smiled softly, "Okay," she agreed and began stroking Arissa’s silky brown hair.

Arissa shut her eyes and replayed Mrs. Wyatt’s words to her and the moment she did so, her memory went back to when she spoke about kids with Nicklaus over dinner.

’I remain on the no baby stance,’

’Unless you want to give me one,’

’Don’t give me baby fever if you aren’t ready to take full responsibility for it. Maybe when you’re ready, we can talk about it. The childbirth process is not an easy foot so I suggest you think about it first,"

She remembered their conversation that day and his words repeated themselves to her, pushing away all doubts and fears that suddenly grew in her heart.

"Your son is so kind," Arissa unconsciously muttered from the hug and raised her face off Mrs. Wyatt’s neck. Arissa could find men like her father forcing the woman to birth him kids if he was the one in a position like this.

She wasn’t powerless but Arissa knew that she wouldn’t be able to save herself if the court interfered unless her parents helped which they would not because they needed more money.

"Arissa?" Mrs. Wyatt called, surprised. Her son? Nicklaus plus kind? Why does she feel like those two words are never meant to be in one place? Anyway, right before her Arissa just gave him the title of being kind and she wanted to know why.

She hasn’t seen many changes between them that could warrant Arissa speaking a biased good of him. She won’t say her son was evil but with how cold his heart was, you should expect anything from him but not kindness.

From her husband’s investigation that helped her to know what made her little boy so traumatized to the point of speaking to no one, she understood why he should be cold and ruthless.

However, someone before her just called him kind with no sarcasm in her voice. How true could the word be?

Arissa held both of Mrs. Wyatt’s shoulders and looked into the woman’s eyes, "Mother?" she replied, her tears almost spilling more.

She knew she was a natural-born crier. Her younger self cried a lot but as she grew older and began to shut the world away, her emotions turned off, and crying became difficult and rare, and now, Nicklaus has turned on that side of her that would cry in almost everything.

Mrs. Wyatt’s eyes sparkled. She was beginning to see hints and clues about what she was searching for.

The tears, the words, the emotions, and the hug explained a few things to Mrs. Wyatt, and added to that, Arissa called her mother.

"The contract doesn’t change anything," Arissa said, courageously, "I lost my birth mother and when I battled with that void and had no plans in looking for a new mother, you came into my life and filled that place up. Not just the void my mother created, you also filled the void my father created, and since then, you became both parents to me," She chuckled out a small laugh and tears rolled down, "Thank you so much for taking me in with all warmth, thank you for making out time to bond with me even if I wasn’t so nice at first. Thank you for the shopping treats and little things..." and then, Arissa went on and on, listing all she could remember to have done with Mrs. Wyatt or all the woman had done for her.

Mrs. Wyatt did not cut her off. She stood patiently and listened to all Arissa had to say and thank her for.

Her heart swelled and the love she has for her daughter-in-law grew strongly and the proud grin on her lips was so heartwarming.

It stunned her when Arissa added those moments she would bring her breakfast to the list. At that moment, Mrs. Wyatt always felt like a disturbance but not anymore.

"...I wish I had known you earlier," Arissa ended her heartfelt cheerful thank you speech, deep from her heart with these words.

Mrs. Wyatt parted her lips to speak and like a fish out of the water, she closed it again and stared up at Arissa’s room ceiling so as not to cry.

She knew she was emotional but hearing the words and praises Arissa gave to her, she believed even a third person’s eyes would get wet.

She was lost for words to say and when she finally found her voice, she looked down from the ceiling with wet eyes.

She held both sides of Arissa’s blush cheeks and joked, "Don’t be so endearing, now you just stole my heart and I am left with none."

The joke caught up with Arissa and warm laughter left her lips. She laughed so hard and happy tears escaped her eyes.

"I was being honest here, Mother. You are the endearing one between us and because of you, I wish I could lengthen this contract," Arissa said with all seriousness.

Mrs. Wyatt made a toothless smile and her tears began to flow freely, "Why am I crying?" she asked, drying her eyes softly with her fingers.

Arissa giggled at the question.

Hearing her giggle so cute, Mrs. Wyatt joined her, "Don’t be such a charmer," she advised Arissa.

Seeing Arissa smile so brightly, she felt more reasons why her son fell so fast. Arissa brought a lot of light to her home.

Nicklaus is her home and for the light Arissa bestowed on him, it brightened him up and also brightened her home up and healed her heart.

She wishes her husband would see this and love their daughter-in-law better without looking at the sins of her father.
