....
It was already past 6 p.m. when Arissa finished her business at the hospital and returned home.
Diego opened the car door for her and walked her to the door. She paused, surveyed her matrimonial home for a second, and took in a deep breath.
One of the disadvantages of the so many cars in the garage was that she would never know if Nicklaus was back or not. The amount of cars there would be enough to start up a car company so she never can tell how many cars he has.
Returning home, their previous argument weighed her down and she could not tell how she would look at him. She does not even know what to say to him or how to begin her apology.
She took in a deep breath, suggested the thought to the back of her mind, and walked into the house.
Getting to her room, she had her night bathroom routine before exiting the room with Nicklaus’s room card in her grip.
Standing before his door, she wondered what she would do when she got in. However, she realizes there’s nothing she wants to do being inside his room.
She misses him so much and wants to be surrounded by his scent so she does not go insane.
Her hand holding his door card gripped it tight and without any more thought to retrain herself, she swiped the card on his door knob and turned it.
Arissa hugged herself the moment she stepped in. The temperature in the room was so cold and another thing, the room was dimly lit.
Switching on the lights, she went through a few of his stuff before sitting on his bed. She knew this was trespassing but she could not help it.
Her heart yearned so much for him and she felt great comfort surrounded by his scent. She packed her hair into a bun and lay down on his bed.
She closed her mind before shutting her eyes for a few seconds. A smile graced her lips and her eyes burned from the potential tears.
Barely two seconds after she shut her eyes and the whole world turned still, the door was pushed open from the outside.
Nicklaus’s face hardened in irritation when he saw his room door tempered with. His aura turned chilly as he turned the doorknob and opened it.
Arissa was strangled back to reality. That strong frosty aura took away her peaceful moment and dragged her back.
Nicklaus’s brows ceased when saw his lights on and then, his expression softened when his eyes fell on the figure on his bed.
He softly closed the door behind him and stood at the door staring at her. Arissa sat on the bed with a gulp and she instantly turned sweaty.
"Nick." Her voice sounded apologetic and when she saw how he fixed his gaze on his bed, she gently climbed off the bed and stood straight.
Nicklaus did not speak to her. He took off his suit jacket and walked over to his vanity table.
His eyes roamed over the files on the vanity table and his soft expression hardened again, "You tempered with my files," he mentioned.
Arissa’s eyes left his back and fell on the files he placed his hand on, "I did, I only touched it. I read nothing from it."
Nicklaus arranged the files and walked away with them toward his balcony. Seated on one of the couches, he dropped the files on the circular luxuriously wooden table and began to go through them.
Arissa felt abandoned when Nicklaus walked out of her that way. He did not even act like she stood in the same space with him.
She sighed, put on her sleep footwear, and headed towards the balcony. She felt like a nuisance but that doesn’t count.
Arissa swallowed her pride, "Nicklaus i_"
"No words," Nicklaus cut her off, he stood up from his seat and came towards her with some papers, "I want us to talk about this,"
Arissa released a deep breath from her lips. What does he want to talk about? Why did he not let me finish? She thought.
Nicklaus passed papers over to her. Holding his gaze, Arissa took the papers from him and her heart sank when she saw the content in the file.
"Nicklaus," she breathes out, her breathing now harsh, "Nicklaus.."
She took a step forward but Nicklaus took three steps away from her and fixed his chilling emotionless gaze on her.
Arissa’s feet halted, "Are you serious right now? Divorce letters? Why?" her hand holding the file trembled but she put on a strong facade.
"We are killing each other." he answered nonchalantly, "We are like a puzzle together but can’t find the piece to fix ourselves with,"
Arissa kneels weakened and standing without support became difficult for her. She held onto the balcony door for support.
"You can sit while we talk," Nicklaus suggested when he saw how drained she looked. It was hard but he knew he had to restrain himself from holding her to himself so she could feel comfortable and not hold onto the door that way.
Arissa shut her eyes and nodded, "Thank you, I have no reason to sit," she lied.
She forced herself to be strong but reality disagreed with her. She held the papers with both of her hands and stared harder into the words.
"You already signed it," she murmured with a straight face. The side of the paper left for his signature was already signed by him.
Nicklaus took steps closer to her, "I’d destroy whoever tries to hurt you," he dropped a pen on the letters, "You can leave if you can’t live with it,"
Arissa slowly raised her head to Nicklaus. She could not believe what she had just heard. Was Nicklaus being serious right now?
"We_"
Nicklaus fixed both of his hands into his pant pocket and struck a straight pose, "It’s okay to leave me alone. Don’t stay and give me false hope that we will be alright one day," his voice soft but his eyes on her remained cold.
She tried not to freak out when Nicklaus fixed such a cold gaze on her. Her heart stumbled and she felt like to go away.
She bit her inner gum to stop herself from crying, "Nicklaus, please don’t do this," She dropped the file to the floor.
Arissa knew Nicklaus. If there was one reason her heart went to him, it was because of this selfless attribute in him.
She does not know about the others but when it comes to her, she has observed how selfless he could get even to the tiniest details.
Nicklaus raised a brow at her. He glanced at the file on the floor and back at her face. Wasn’t this what she had always wanted?
"You have to sign this, Arissa," Nicklaus told her bending to the floor to pick up the file.
Arissa stepped on the file with her leg, riveting his attention back on her. "I do not want this," she cried.
Nicklaus frowned, "Then what do you want?"
"I_" she paused.
Nicklaus lifted his left brow at her, "You what? What do you want?"
