Chapter 269: The Past (2)

"Mama!!" Elena screamed at the top of her voice when she was forcefully torn away from her sister.

Maya’s body stiffened on the man’s legs. She fixed her unblinking gaze on her mother before moving it to her father.

"Is this some sort of joke?" Mr. Paul spoke up taking steps forward but Alfred’s men held him from moving forward with a gun pointed at his head.

"Do not tempt me, Paul." Alfred warned, "I’ve been waiting for this moment and I want you to let me enjoy it."

....

Logan paused in his memorial. Talking became hard and he hastinly drew in deep breaths to calm down.

Valeria took in a deep breath and rubbed her throbbing head with her palm. She understood why Logan paused.

It wasn’t her story but she felt the pain from it so, how much more he who experienced it and lived to share?

Logan casually stood up from the couch and walked towards one of the shelves in the room.

He picked up one of the items on the shelves and proceeded with his past, "It pained me that I saw the helpless look in my father’s eyes and I watched my mother struggle to watch one of her daughters raped by several men,"

He chuckled and faced Valeria, "I should have done something, Val. I should have said something. Perhaps harmed one of the men around but I did nothing."

Valeria kept quiet and listened to him. It amazed her he hadn’t broken down yet while saying all of these to her.

She was already feeling lightheaded but he was staring back at her with no emotions in his eyes. Not even the affectionate one reserved for her.

His eyes turned shades darker, "My mother fought relentlessly when Maya’s dress was harshly torn off her body while my father was held down at a spot with a gun pointed at his head. I wondered, I wondered what happened in the neighborhood that night. Maya screamed her lungs out, my parents also did not just watch, they tried their best, fought their way and when my mother picked up a vase and threw it at Alfred, she was immediately shot at the spot."

He paused again, taking in a deep exhale.

"Maya died from the ra*e incident and Elena was shot to death just like my mother. My father was forced to watch all of these before the heartbroken man was pardoned to finally join them," he rubbed his hand harshly on his face, taking in multiple deep breaths as if drowning.

And yes, he was drowning. He was drowning in the memories and they struggled to suppress him. However, Logan fought well to stay sane.

He clenched his fist and unclenched it, constantly tapping on his left foot, "I couldn’t even do nothing," and finally he choked on his potential tears.

The regret his voice carried broke Valeria. She stood up and walked towards him. She placed a hand on his shoulder and the man jolted up unprepared for a human touch.

How come he did not notice her advance towards him?

Valeria forced out a smile, "You did everything by staying quiet." she said, "And now you live to continue your father’s name, and am sure he is so proud of you for that alone."

She placed her other hand on his free shoulder and made him to face her, "And staying quiet also made it possible for you to fulfill those dreams you told me you have always wanted to achieve,"

Logan’s expression turned smug, "I do not know if I should tag it as luck or as foolishness from Alfred. The man failed to search the house and unknowingly left me alive."

Valeria held both sides of his face with both hands and stared into his eyes, "I never believe you hid all of this from me. Why are you telling me all of these now?"

Logan’s gaze left her eyes and went to her ear. He raised his hand to her face and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.

Valeria gulped at his action and Logan noticed it. Complicated emotions flickered across his eyes.

Knowingly, he brushed one of his long fingers on the sensitive spot on her neck. Valeria controlled herself this time around and met his eyes rather than giving him a reaction.

Logan cleared his throat, "I could not tell you then,"

Valeria closed the space between them, "Why?" she questioned, "Was it because you do not trust me?"

Logan chuckled, "If I never trusted you then we were together almost all of the time, what makes you think I trust you now?"

Valeria’s face fell and so did her hands on his face. "You would never trust me?"

"I would always trust you, Val," he turned his back on her, "You were so young and free-spirited then and I never wanted any of this to damage your loving self."

The place turned pin dropped quiet after Logan’s words. While Valeria read into his words, Logan tried figuring out what she thought about him.

Valeria’s expression brightened hearing his reasons for keeping his darkness away from her. "Does this mean I changed from the girl you used to know?"

Logan nodded, "You did," he faced her again, "You changed from the girl I used to know to a woman I feel a deeper connection with."

Valeria choked with her saliva, "A woman?" she asked to be sure he meant what she thought.

"Ahh," he released an exhale rather than replying, "So after all he did to me, would you judge me if I do the same to him or much more worst?" he asked her validation.

"I wouldn’t. Just promise to stay alive," Valeria assured waking up from the hallucination that hit her when Logan called her a woman and not a girl, "But if you want to destroy him this much... as you have to, why are you in love with one of his daughters?"

Logan’s lips curled up into a wicked dangerous smile, "I do not love her so much not to destroy her. She did nothing wrong and I want to make sure it remains that way by keeping her beside me," he dropped both hands on Valeria shoulders, "I shouldn’t let his seeds turn out to become like him,"

Valeria nodded stiffly and Logan pulled her into a hug.
