Chapter 268: The Past (1)

Logan heard his mother’s footsteps rushing down the staircase, alongside Elena’s. The way his mother rushed down told him whoever rang the doorbell was an expected visitor and this made him sulk further, wondering how long the conversation would go on.

Logan watched from where he sat and his mother opened their door to a strange man who walked in first, accompanied by ten bulky-looking men.

The sizes of the men scared him and he wheeled himself further under the staircase to hide himself more.

His father also came downstairs and exchanged pleasantries with all of the men. Though his father smiled, Logan could tell that his father was wondering what all the bulky men had to do coming into his house.

It was night already and under the staircase was dark which served to Logan’s advantage.

The whole house was brightened up except under the staircase and the little boy stayed there, watching all that was about to unfold.

Logan did not hear any word exchanged between his father and the people who just walked in. He only watched and observed their actions.

Logan’s mother led them straight to the space they used as a living room. Getting there, she nervously looked at the men and back at her husband.

She does not like the bouncer’s presence, especially around her kids. They terrified her, How much more are her kids?

She walked towards Elena and dragged her towards Maya. Fixing the little girl’s hands into Maya’s own, she instructed lowly, "Go upstairs, stay with Elena in your room, and do not open the door or come out until I order you to do so,"

Maya nodded with a small smile. Taking the opportunity, she placed a kiss on her stepmother’s cheek, "Goodnight Mama,"

Mrs. Paul smiled, "Goodnight princess. Do not forget to lock your door," she repeated her instruction for some reason.

Maya nodded and began to walk away. She had barely taken their steps away when Alfred spoke up.

"Paul, where are your kids going?" he questioned with a graceful smile on his lips.

Mrs. Paul whirled her head towards Alfred and replied, "The kids have to go to bed early," her motherly instinct was everywhere and she felt her kids shouldn’t be out with these men. Especially Maya.

No doubt her fifteen-year-old teenager was a beauty. She was naive and young but then, Mrs. Paul did not miss how Alfred stared at her and that was why she wanted to send them away.

She even feared the man before them to be an imposter because the Mr. Lincoln she and her husband knew and accepted tonight was supposed to be friendly, loving and all in for business.

Alfred’s lips curled up into a smirk, "Why? It’s a holiday, isn’t it? Whereas, we would need them for this discussion,"

Mrs. Paul’s brow creased at Alfred’s tune and words. What could a four-year-old and a teenager be needed for in a business meeting?

She met her husband’s eyes and he signaled her to let the kids settle down with them. He believed the meeting would last just a few minutes.

"Let her sit here," Alfred spoke up again when Mrs. Paul dragged her girls to herself, pointing to Maya.

The girl’s parents looked at where he requested their daughter to sit and Mrs. Paul’s face went red in irritation.

"My daughter can’t sit on your man legs. If we are short of couches, she could easily sit on my legs and not on your man’s own," she spoke up knowing her husband wouldn’t say a word until he saw something happening.

Alfred chuckled, "Alright woman. I was just kidding," he said but his dark gaze on Maya’s body spoke otherwise, and in return, Maya trembled under his gaze.

Mr. Paul’s racing heart calmed down when Alfred claimed to be just kidding. He went over to the cupboard in the living room and produced the files Alfred spoke about over the phone.

He had always seen Alfred as a good man but his actions tonight scared him and for that reason, he wanted to get down to business as fast as he could.

Alfred snatched the files from Mr. Paul and his eyes sparkled with greed. His ultimate plan of coming here tonight was to rip this man off his hard work.

"Let her sit there," he orders sternly, looking into the file.

Mr. Paul frowned knowing what Alfred spoke about, "Why_"

Mr. Paul was cut off from his words when three of the men brought out their guns and. pointed them at his face. A scream tore out of Elena and Maya’s lips while their mother’s eyes widened in horror.

From there Logan was seated, he saw the guns being pointed at his father and sweat broke out of his back and ran down his spine.

The kids trembled in Mrs. Paul’s embrace and the woman tried her hardest not to shiver. What was all of these?

Mr. Paul became confused. Regardless of that, he tried to put on a brave face for the sake of his family.

Alfred raised his face from the files and looked straight and deep into Mrs. Paul’s eyes, "Let her sit where I ordered her to or someone loses their life for it," he said.

Mrs. Paul looked at her husband and back at Alfred, "When you called, this wasn’t what we agreed for. I can’t let my daughter sit_"

She hadn’t finished her words and two more of Alfred’s men produced their gun and pointed it at her while the ones who already had their guns out cracked it, ready to shoot.

It was like a movie in the face of the small family. Everything went on as if staged and to Mrs. Wyatt’s terror, Maya was snatched out of her hand forcefully.

The little boy under the staircase got confused and anxious when Maya was forced to sit on one of the bulky men’s legs. He watched how his sister trembled uncontrollably and how the man’s hand grabbed her waist and pressed her to himself.
