Chapter 265: Triggered.

"So what happened this time? Why are you so sad and cursing at yourself?" Adele asked immediately They parted the hug.

Arissa’s breath hitched at the question. She closed her eyes for a split second before opening them again with tears almost spilling out of them.

The whole air around her screamed for comfort and as if played, both Adele and Jocelyn took hold of both hands and squeezed them softly. She was the baby between all three of them and they made sure to treat her as one when she needed it.

Arissa turned to Jocelyn and looked into her eyes, "I wish your words this morning happened," she began and turned away from Jocelyn.

Jocelyn nodded in understanding. She sensed another argument becoming the story of the day long ago. "Tell us all about it." She urged her to drop the sadness in her heart and speak up.

Arissa’s heart tightened. Now, she has to remember all of it, from her hurtful words to how he tried to comfort her and down to the last hurt and sad look in his eyes before he left her all alone. However, whichever way, she has to share it with them.

Unhurriedly, she drew both of her hands away from their grip. She gave them small smiles and stood up from the bed. She felt nervous and disappointed in herself but she dared not to show it so openly.

She sat down on the extra seat in the ward and stared down at her feet, "Our notice turned out to be true."

"What notice?" Adele inquired.

Jocelyn cleared her throat, "About a nurse, right Arissa?"

"You are right," Arissa affirmed still not gazing away from her feet. The interest she placed in staring down at her feet was as if there was an interesting movie going on down there.

She went on, "The last time you saw me here I requested fresh air but never came back, and let’s say that was the moment I would have ceased to exist,"

Adele’s brows scrunched up and a small gasp escaped Jocelyn’s lips. That gasp got Arissa’s attention. She finally raised her face from the floor and stared into their eyes.

She exhaled deeply. "Father came and we had a little argument about Nicklaus’s company documents."

Jocelyn blinked, "You mean your father came here? He knows this hospital?"

Arissa nodded, "My point."

The whole muscles in Adele’s body froze when Arissa confirmed Jocelyn’s words. Beads of sweat instantly tolled down her forehead. Memories from what happened to her the day she was raped and injected severally began to replay themselves before her like a movie on a big screen.

Her breathing fastened and her mental health played games with her. She would shut her eyes, open them, and begin to blink rapidly, all in an attempt to push the image and her pleas for cry off her mind.

Her hands on the bed trembled and she used them to tighten her grip on the bedsheets to stop a scream from leaving her lips.

Arissa noticed the little changes in Adele’s demeanor. She sat up in her seat, "Adele are you alright?"

Jocelyn hurriedly faced Adele beside her and her jaw dropped. Adele was more pale than a white paper and she looked entirely stressed and scared about something.

Jocelyn went closer to her and placed her hand on her shoulder. Arissa rushed over to them and placed a hand on her forehead, checking her temperature.

"I’m fine," Adele said with a small smile, "I just need to take a short nap," she forced the words out.

"Shit!" Jocelyn cursed, "You’re not fine.." She raised her face to Arissa, "Quick, press the call button. We need a doctor in here right now," she ordered.

"I said am fine." Adle smiled again, trying her hardest to stop the images from presenting themselves to her, "Help me lie down," she requested.

Even at her speech, Arissa walked over to the call button and pressed on it twice. Done with that, she came back to them and helped Adle to lie down softly with no struggles.

"She would be fine, right?" Arissa asked directing the question to Jocelyn.

Jocelyn nodded, helping Adele’s head to relax on the pillow. Adele squeezed Arissa’s palm on her chest with her now tired ones.

"I would be fine, Arissa. Let me take a short nap and while I do, please try reconciling with Nick," she pleaded.

"I_"

Arissa was cut off when the ward door was pulled open and an older doctor appeared. He nodded to them as a form of greeting with a small smile on his gentle face.

"Come in," Jocelyn permitted.

Arissa looked up at the doctor and back at Adele only to discover her sister’s eyes were already closed with her chest rising and falling softly.

Somehow, it made her heart skip a bit. She stepped away from Adele when the doctor got closer to her. Giving him a tight smile, she permitted him to check on her sister under her eagle watch.

If her father could sneak in a nurse, then she would trust no worker in this hospital anymore. Not even the cleaners.

The doctor stared at Adele for a moment. Checking her with his instruments, he nodded at himself and felt her temperature and heart rate one more time before turning to the two girls in the ward with him.

"I think she had some bad memories resurfaced themselves from what I had observed. For now, let her take this short nap, and when she’s up, if Dr. Brodkin isn’t with you yet, send for me," he told them.

Arissa fixed her eyes on Adele, "Bad memories," she muttered to herself, realizing she wasn’t careful enough and ended up mentioning her father before her sister after all that had happened.

"Yes, Mrs." the doctor clarified, "Excuse me,"

Arissa met the doctor’s eyes, "Thank you."

The doctor nodded and with a more casual smile toward Jocelyn, the man quietly left the ward.
