His Toxic Addiction -
Chapter 264: Life Changed.
Chapter 264: Life Changed.
Valeria spent her whole afternoon with Logan after giving a thousand missed calls to the seemingly proud model who refused to give them a reply.
Geal worried over that model so much and if not that she had stopped him, he would have illegally tracked her down from her contact. She told him to let the model be. Maybe, she’s offended for being replaced by an imposter..
They can hunt for new ones while they still try to contact her but regardless of that, she was here with Logan, trying to know him more and to get back her interesting Logan.
Logan kept her busy by telling her more about what had happened to him after she left. He did his best to cover up all open spaces without touching his crimes and at the same time, he sound mostly genuine to her.
"What is this place?" she asked when they got to another hallway inside his mansion and he opened a door for her to step in.
"Step in first," Logan said with a gesture of his hands.
Valeria nodded and walked in through the door. Her feet paused as she observed the room.
"This is my most favorite room," Logan said, relaxing on one of the divan.
Valeria looked around the simple room with three shelves in it. It would have passed as a libery if not that the shelves have no books in them.
She wanted to see what makes the room so special so she walked towards one of the shelves and also, the shelves had tags on them. She ran her hand through the items Logan tagged as his most-priced collections. After a few seconds of just touching the items with little interest, her eyes stumbled upon a box.
It wasn’t a box but was made ome with the help of pink ribbons. It looked so girlish and common to be added among the expensive collections Logan saved and with keen curiosity, she picked it up.
"Can I open this?" Valeria asked, wiggling the box before him.
Logan nodded, and then he asked, "Why do you ask? You also own everything in here,"
Valeria looked at him, "I do? I don’t think I do."
"Why do you say so?"
Valeria looked away from him and began to untie the ribbons that bound the box to hold, "I said so because you keep a lot of things away from me," she answered straightforwardly.
"Really?" Logan sat up, "Was there something you asked and I refused to give you answers on?"
Valeria did not reply to that. She fumbled with the small flat rectangle box in her hand and when it finally opened up, she blinked in surprise and met his eyes.
"You were really stalking me back then," her voice changed from offended to surprised and then she started back at the pictures the box provided.
Logan who had forgotten what was in the box she just opened stood up and walked towards her and when he did, a ghost smile flashed on his lips.
"I had always wanted to ask why you frowned so hard when I took this picture," Logan spoke up when they came across the fifth picture that had the younger version of a frowning Valeria in it.
Valeria stared long at the picture, "I had requested to be left alone, I believed you would arrive if they stepped away and a minute with you would heal me but even after being left alone, you never appeared," she told him, her voice sad.
"I did appear," Logan countered, standing directly beside her, "But I wasn’t let in. My kind and your kind would never mix, just like how oil and water never would." he chuckled dryly at the end, fixing both of his hands into his pant pockets.
Valeria kept silent. She tilted her head to him and for some reason, her breathing turned heavy and her eyes kept on lingering around his lips before going back to his eyes.
She breathed, "We changed that, did we not?"
Logan’s hands freed themselves from his pant pocket as he stared back at her plump red lips.
"We did."
The air between them changed but not so much. The sexual tension had always remained between them only that now, it was stronger and hard to pull away from.
They both saw themselves for who the next person have grown to become and not the innocent teenager from years ago.
Valeria leaned closer to him, slowly and thoughtfully. Logan noticed her advance, and he pulled himself away before he awkwardly cleared his throat.
Valeria stepped away also and stared into his eyes with her unreadable ones. She gave him a light smile before looking at the picture in her palm.
"I’m sor_"
Before he could complete his apology, she cut him off, "You don’t have to be sorry. I should be, perhaps I might hit the club tonight." she said shamelessly, as she did not want what happened to repeat itself.
Logan nodded, "So what about me did you still not know about?"
Valeria dropped the pictures on the collection shelf and stepped away from him. The air between them gets thicker by the second and she does not want to risk their innocent friendship, and neither does he.
"What do you do for a living?" she asked tactfully.
Logan’s expression shifted and his lips curled up, "Why?"
She shrugged her shoulders. "Don’t you think I deserve to know?"
Logan searched her eyes for a moment. "You do but what I do for a living isn’t something you would be proud of,"
Valeria nodded, in thought, "Do you sell drugs?" she asked softly, almost in a whisper, a thousand percent sure she had hit the nail on the head.
Logan gulped. He has never been ashamed of what he does to put food on the table for himself and get the money to track his enemies down. But in life, there must always be a particular someone or a particular set of people you never want to let down with your wrongdoings.
And to Logan, Valeria was that particular person he would never want to let down. A part of him also wished she never appeared now.
Her presence was all he needed but her timing was not perfect. Her timing could ruin them and he feared for that to happen.
"Things got really rough when you left, Val. Life changed and as the seconds ticked, my struggles increased and my chances for survival tightened." he began, staring at her and asking his inner self if he could risk more details for her.
After a moment and her eyes held no criticism and judgment in them, he took in a deep breath and decided to continue. Furthermore, if he wanted to make them stronger, they needed more trust and he hadn’t been feeding her that ever since he had known her.
He turned away from her and walked towards the couch, "And you are right, there are a lot of things I haven’t told you about myself. Including the reason why I ended up in the street with no family."
