Chapter 255: Her Shady Memories.

Chapter 255: Her Shady Memories.

Nicklaus’s expression turned sour and with an unmasked displeased expression, he let go of his cutleries.

How could Arissa say this mistake he prepared tastes nice? Was there something wrong with her sense of taste?

Arissa raised a brow at him, "What was that for?" she asked.

Nicklaus flexed his jaw, he was almost turning red from embarrassment. He could not believe he prepared such a sour tasted pancake. He should have expected this.

After all, it was his first try.

"How do you manage to eat that?" Nicklaus asked glaring at the meal as if it prepared itself. He took only a bite and could not go on but she have taken three bites out of it with a nice expression on her face.

Arissa cut out another bite and looked up at him, "Because it’s meant to be eaten," she said, staring into his eyes, she put another bite of the pancakes into her mouth.

Nicklaus frowned, "Eaten? That poison?"

Arissa sniffled a laugh when she saw his expression, "Yes, it’s meant to be eaten and it’s no poison. I’m not yet dead,"

Nicklaus blinked at her.

"It tastes nice and trust me I’ve eaten dishes a thousand times worst than this," she elaborated.

"I can’t eat this,"

Arissa smiled and dropped her cutleries. She placed her hands on the dining table and fixed her fists under her chin. "That’s because you are so used to luxury down to your meals all of your life. You have nice chefs and a wonderful mother who could cook. What then would make you able to eat this?"

She took her hands off the table and her smile flattened as she picked up her cutleries again, "I survived on my own three years abroad, and when I started being around the orphanage, meals like this...." she stabbed the pancakes to emphasize well on her point, "...serves as Christmas for the poor kids,"

She went on, "Their regular meal was trash and yet they ate with smiles on their faces. I don’t believe in things not being good enough. When it isn’t good enough for you, it would be best for the next person,"

She concluded her words and began eating again. She doesn’t want to go deeper into those kids’ life.

Having done the little she could for them and spending a lot of time after work together, they held a strong ground in her heart. Although Collins gives her good reports about them, it worried her she was no longer there with them.

Nicklaus felt a jolt of surge run through his veins. Her words awakened some buried memories in him and it affected his whole countenance.

His face paled and he wished the conversation never happened. He dreads hearing things related to orphanages. With his own experience at the orphanage, there wasn’t a story from there the next person would love to hear although he was still young then.

"Why did you not use your parent’s money while abroad?" he finally found his voice after a short silence between them.

Arissa shrugged her shoulders, "I wanted a life away from them for myself. I was done with college so it shouldn’t have been a big deal but..." she gulped and paused quickly.

"But what?" Nicklaus wanted more of her story. It was strange she was giving him bits of her life.

Arissa’s heart turned heavy and her eyes blurry. She stabbed the pancakes a couple more times. "Life turned hard and confusing with a sour taste. It became as if I was living someone else life," she gulped and chuckled sadly. "I fell into the hands of the wrong people one certain time.." she paused again and this time her tears dropped.

Nicklaus turned confused. He hated suspense so much and worst still if it was about something he was already so invested into. He wanted to know more about her life abroad.

He had tried digging in once but kicked against it. Then, he felt she wasn’t important enough for him to waste his time on.

However now she was more than important and he wanted full details about her. They can continue this conversation later when she’s ready.

Arissa hastily reached for her face and wiped off the small tears in her left eye. She hates those shady memories and she wasn’t surprised she could still cry just by remembering them.

She smiled at Nicklaus, "I think this is already enough reason why you should eat," she said and continued her meal like she wasn’t the one about to break down seconds ago.

Nicklaus stared at her with curiosity. He expected all women to be with weaker emotions, judging from the ones he had met but her poise always left him in awe.

She’s a full goddess when it comes to hiding everything inside of her and it left him a bit worried.

He expected their progress to be enough for her to show him her vulnerable self but sadly, she wasn’t close to even doing that.

Arissa raised her face from her meal, "Aren’t you eating?" she brought her fork to his lips, "Here, have a bite. It tastes lovely," she urged him to part his lips.

Nicklaus shook his head in rejection, "I can’t eat this," he still could not bring himself to eat the poorly prepared meal he made. Some of the ingredients were much and he could puck into his plate if he tries to have another bite.

Arissa pulled closer to him with her seat. She placed her free hand under his chin without taking the fork off his lips.

"Nick, can you eat this for me?"

Nicklaus’s chest heaved, her words made him feel exceptional. He took in a deep breath, looked at the fork, and back into her eyes. Holding her gaze, he managed to part his lips for her.

Arissa gave him a wide toothless smile and put the fork into his mouth. "Don’t think of the taste as bad and you would get used to it," she advised.

Nicklaus nodded with a thick jaw. Arissa gave him an encouraging smile, "Just for me," she said.

Nicklaus stared into her brown eyes and began to chew slowly. As he chew, Arissa watched him with an encouraging gaze.

Nicklaus swallowed the pancake after chewing with lesser difficulty than before. He took a sip from his glass of water and met her eyes.

"Does it taste good now?"

"Even better. I could manage it,"

Arissa patted his shoulder, "That’s great. I would make you something delicious for lunch," she promised proud of the fact he was beginning to listen to her.

If he should forget his ex, this should be a great start but she hope she won’t get too caught up by her heart.
