Arissa walked down the staircase all freshened up in a new shirt that belongs to Nicklaus.
She held Blu. tightly secured in her arms and with furrowed brows, she searched for Nicklaus around the house.
He wasn’t in the nursery when she dressed up and he wasn’t in his room either when she went in there. Now, where would he be?
She gave her hair a light scratch as she climbed down the last stair. Her brow shot up when she saw a coffee mug on his piano bench.
"Thank Goodness," she muttered realizing he was still home. She took a lot of time to freshen up because she spent a few minutes crying and she also had to touch her eyes a little to hide all evidence of her tears.
She kissed Blu. fur and dropped the cat on the floor to roam about the house. Blu. was already used to all corners of the house after the few days she spent with Rue. Also, Nicklaus said he doesn’t like the cat.
She won’t abandon the cat because of his words. He would come around but at this moment, Blu. have to give them some moment. She wants some private moments with her husband.
Arissa walked directly to the kitchen. She figured he wouldn’t go too far away from his piano since his coffee mug rested on the bench. Again, he wasn’t in the living room so the kitchen was a better option.
There was no need to stroll into the kitchen. His back was the first view at sight when she stood before the kitchen door.
Arissa have never imagined seeing Nicklaus in an apron before and now, seeing him in one left her speechless. Her eyelashes couldn’t flutter and her breath stopped.
He was so fucking and insanely handsome putting on that stripped lemon apron. His sight highly blessed her eyes.
Eventually, she was able to breathe and her heartbeat quickened. She drooled at his appearance and his sexiness even in an apron caused her nose to bleed.
’What’s he doing in an apron?’ she thought.
Arissa took in a deep breath and placed a hand on her stomach. Emotions covered her heart and her will to take the pills weakened more.
"Nicklaus?" she spoke up.
"Yes, Love?" he flipped the pancakes over and turned to her, "I thought you won’t bother announcing your presence."
Arissa blushed and fastly took her hand off her stomach when she noticed he was watching her. Nicklaus noticed that gesture and met her eyes with unspoken questions if she had taken the pills or not.
But rather than bring up that topic, she questioned with a cheerful voice, "What are you doing? Isn’t Rue home?"
Nicklaus chuckled, "Rue left with Mother. They would be attending some social functions. I forbade her from going with you,"
Arissa blinked, "Oh!" she nodded, "That was so considerate of you,"
Nicklaus turned back to the pan and turned off the cooker. "Done," he said in an almost frustrated voice.
Arissa laughed at how he sounded. So frustrated but loving. "Are you set to kill my parents?" she referred to the fact he just prepared a meal.
Nicklaus turned to her. His lips parted to say something but he sealed them shut in the next second.
Arissa moved up to him, "That’s okay," she joked and patted his cheeks.
Nicklaus smiled when she patted his cheeks. He leaned in to kiss her but Arissa turned her face away and stared into the pans.
"Those look great," she complimented honestly. She smiled up at him and rubbed her thumb on his lips before moving away from him.
Nicklaus did not let her go. He caught her arm and drew her back into his embrace. Arissa bit her lower lip when he pulled her in.
She had low-key expected him to pull her in and then, seduce her into kissing him but what she never expected were his next words.
"You are beautiful,"
"Huh?" Arissa blushed and as if that wasn’t enough, Nicklaus turned away from her and face the pancakes.
"My wife is beautiful!" he announced in a louder voice as he flipped the pancakes.
Arissa giggled with an all-red face. She smiled until her cheeks hurt.
Rue and Mrs. Wyatt weren’t home doesn’t mean there was no one home. His guards are around and also Lyra.
"Nicklaus, hush," she hushed him softly with a red face. She wasn’t embarrassed, she was too amazed.
Nicklaus filled two plates with pancakes, "Why? I want the world to know I got the most beautiful woman as a wife,"
Arissa froze, "Don’t flatter me," she pleaded.
Nicklaus face her and with a quick hold, he drew her back into his arms, "I’m not flattering you," he assured her.
"Yes you can be so annoying when you break all the rules I made for myself to keep for a lifetime, but that doesn’t make you any less beautiful. I did not say you’re attractive. I said you are beautiful, all parts of you are especially from your inside," he added holding her gaze.
Arissa was left speechless. She tried to blink away from his strong gaze but it wasn’t working. It was as if she was compelled not to blink.
"Thank you," she finally got her tongue and decided to go back to formal to lessen the sparks she felt from his words.
Nicklaus frowned at the face of her formality. "Why thank you?"
Arissa became nervous, "Well, what do you expect me to say?"
He should give her words to say if not she would stick to saying "Thank you" whenever he compliments her this way.
She was beginning to fall harder and harder which she don’t want to anymore. Her main goal now was to help him forget his ex and then nothing more.
Confession would come later. They still have a year and a few months together so there should be no rush.
Nicklaus placed a kiss on her forehead, "Take your time," he advised.
Arissa’s heartbeat quickened. Why does he always drop comments and advice like this as if he knows her heart?
