Chapter 243: He Wants To Hear Her Voice.
He left the hospital with her after the incident. He fears for her safety and rather than treating her there, he brought her home and called his doctor over.
Right now, she was in his room getting treated but his scenes were still heightened. He was aghast by the incident that got her unconscious.
He faced his doctor who was about to leave. He frowned seeing the man all packed up to leave.
"Why isn’t she waking up?" he questioned, his voice hard and cold. Even Mrs. Wyatt had to pinch the skin between her brows from the effect of his tune.
For a while, he haven’t used this tune and she almost forgot it was his normal tune. Arissa did change a lot. The girl helped to cover all of her shortcomings as his mother.
"She would be fine, a few hours of rest is all her body need," Mr. Williams reported the same thing for the hundredth time.
He was only giving the situation report but the man before him kept on asking and asking with displeasure at the tip of his tongue.
Nicklaus was devastated. He keeps on hearing the same news, it was already a full day since Arissa became unconscious but she haven’t woken up yet.
Mr. Williams, Nicklaus’s doctor released an exhale, "She would wake up soon. She has been stressed for a while now. Not physically but mentally and the incident that caused her to be unconscious is also taking a toll on her. Let’s give her some time," he said softly to calm the man before him.
"Some time?" Nicklaus finally lost it, "You aren’t doing your job well and claim we should give her some time?" he snapped at his doctor scaring the old man.
"I_" Mr. Williams kept quiet, scared he would annoy the young man before him further.
Nicklaus’s face turned more deadly when his doctor cut himself off. "Why aren’t you talking? Don’t you know your job, why isn’t she still awake?"
Mr. Williams cleared his throat. Even after taking care of this boy ever since he was eleven, he has never been able to understand his temperament.
"She needs to rest," Mr. Williams gave his honest report. The truth Nicklaus refused to accept.
"What do you mean she needs to rest? Can’t she do that after waking up?" anger flashed through his eyes, "Why isn’t she waking up?" and now his anger turned into worry. Nicklaus can’t wait to stare into those brown eyes of hers, he wants her awake, he misses her.
Mr. Williams looked at Mrs. Wyatt, voicelessly asking her to do something about her son’s temper.
"Williams, leave," she permitted him to leave to save his ass but Nicklaus wasn’t done.
"He goes nowhere." he turned to his mother, "Arissa isn’t yet awake, why would he leave?" he asked.
"He has been here since yesterday and stayed awake all through the night. Don’t you think other families might need him? He also has to rest," she reasoned with her son.
Nicklaus’s eyes darkened, "Any other families that need him, he should let me know. He goes nowhere until Arissa wakes up. If he needs rest, he should do something about her." he said in a firm voice.
Mrs. Wyatt looked at Williams apologetically before facing Nicklaus again, "He’s now an old man, son. Give him a break,"
Nicklaus shook his head, "Arissa has to wake up first. Give him one of the rooms here, he won’t leave here until she wakes up,"
Mr. Williams nodded in agreement. His old bones need to rest and get some energy back from last night.
Mrs. Wyatt nodded. "Let’s go, Williams," she led the way. She also has been awake all through the night.
Nicklaus’s emotions were all over the place and won’t let her sleep. She assured him Arissa would wake up soon but he refused to take that as a reply so she decided to stay back and give him physical comfort and also, save the doctor from her son’s temper.
Nicklaus stood and watched his door close after them. He turned back and faced Arissa and with heavy steps, he walked towards her.
For the first time in so many years, he once again knows what fear for a human life felt like. Right now, he was so scared and felt as if the world was about to fall on him. He have never been this scared to his soul for a long time. He sat down on his gray chair by his bedside and held Arissa’s hand in his.
He has never had this feeling before. Although she breathes, he was still of fearful of each seconds she spent with her eyes closed.
At that moment, his phone rang. Seeing the name displayed on his screen, he answered the call.
"How is the couple?"
"How is Arissa?"
Nicklaus and Collins asked themselves at the same time. They did not even wait for the next person to take the next breath after the call was connected.
Nicklaus took in a deep breath, "Arissa isn’t yet awake. She needs some rest," he answered first.
Collins frowned at the other end, "What exactly happened to her?"
Nicklaus thinned his lips and held Arissa’s soft palm a little tight. He shut his eyes and opened it again.
He hasn’t told anyone what exactly happened to her, not even Mrs. Wyatt. He doesn’t want anyone to panic until he knows what to do.
Only Mr. Williams knows what happened.
"She lost consciousness due to stress lately," he lied.
"Stress?" Collins wasn’t buying that. His tune alone said it all, "Haven’t you been taking good care of her?"
"I have. Take care of the couple, i’d get back to you," Nicklaus hung up on the call and tossed his phone away.
He don’t need anyone voice, right now the only voice he wants to hear was the voice of the woman laying on his bed.
