Please, listen to this to understand Arissa better.

.....

Arissa combed Nicklaus’s hair with her fingers while he massaged her feet. They forgot the people in the ward with them and subconsciously displayed their affection with no care about the world.

"I think that’s enough," she told him after a short while.

The short massage relieved her so much although she never believed she was stressed when he said it. Nicklaus raised his face to her and lightly Arissa dropped a kiss on his forehead, just as he always does to her and then she blushed.

Nicklaus smiled at her, "That was cute," he said almost claiming her cute lips. His - let him use the word like. His like for her grows every day.

Breathe! Arissa commanded herself in her heart. Nicklaus’s actions left her breathless together with his words. She looked away from him and then her gaze instantly meet with Collins’s gaze.

"Nicklaus," she called him not taking her eyes off Collins. She was swept off by Nicklaus’s sweetness and forgot about the people in the room. Psh! So bad of her.

"I know," Nicklaus said. Standing straight, he turned to Collins with his expression back cold. Jocelyn almost sulked seeing this.

She gushed at their bond. How could a man be this sweet to his wife alone and be so indifferent and cold to others?

Nicklaus formed a wall before Arissa when Collins kept his eyes so fixed on her. "Dr. Brodkin, a moment," he said breaking Collins off the trance he was so deep in while staring at Arissa.

Collins tore his gaze off Arissa and nodded to Nicklaus. At the nod, they both left the ward and closed the door behind them.

Arissa watched the closed door, "Jocelyn, do you think he still has feelings for me?" she asked referring to Collins.

When she met his gaze earlier, she saw a thousand glints of hurt in his eyes. She unknowingly placed a motherly hand on her stomach and turned to Jocelyn.

Jocelyn stood up from the seat beside Adele’s bed and walked towards Arissa. She slumped on the couch dramatically before rubbing her forehead.

Jocelyn pondered over the question. It was as clear as the daylight Collins still hopes for a chance but she rather not say. She’s tired of the love triangle with Collins. He had a lot of time with Arissa but he did nothing, he wasted all the days with her, claiming to just want to be friends.

Now Arissa has a husband, he should keep on being that friend and not poise himself as the third wheel. Even if Arissa would argue this, Nicklaus makes her happy and she wants the best for her friend.

If Nicklaus would forever keep her this happy and not for just a moment, then he should be past to spend his days with her.

Rather than answering the question, Jocelyn changed the topic. "Are you expecting a baby?" she asked.

Arissa frowned. Turning to Jocelyn, she glared at her. Perhaps, she might have a short-term memory because she can’t remember having a conversation close to this with Jocelyn. She asked about Collins and not this.

Jocelyn shrugged, "Don’t give me that look, I was only curious. I mean, you’ve been clutching your stomach so protectively since they left. And Nicklaus doesn’t want you to stand so long," she outlined her reason to think so.

Arissa looked down, surprised that Jocelyn’s words were true, she slowly took her hands off her belly. "I’m not expecting a baby," she replied.

"Oh! I thought you were expecting one," Jocelyn said. "You know, your genes mixed would be a sight to behold," she went on.

Arissa did not reply. She just shook her head hopelessly. Jocelyn seems to have lost her mind. If not she won’t say a thing like this.

Arissa’s disinterest in the conversation wasn’t enough to end the conversation as Jocelyn went on, "I don’t mind being a God-mother f_"

"JOCELYN." Arissa cut her off with a tired yell, she called her name like she was spelling it out, "Stop this conversation,"

Jocelyn gave her an innocent look, "Am I provoking your ovaries?" she questioned.

Arissa almost puked at Jocelyn’s words. "Stop saying nonsense," she chastised.

Jocelyn nodded in acceptance of the warning. Though she loves them together and would not want them to divorce, everything lies in Arissa’s hands and not in her hand.

Arissa released a deep breath, "We can’t have a baby," she said.

Jocelyn frowned at Arissa’s words. "The divorce still stands?"

Arissa looked at her feet, "It still stands," she answered with a heavy heart, "Left for me, I no longer want the divorce," she confessed afterward.

Jocelyn’s lips parted, "You want to eliminate the divorce?" she asked in shock.

Arissa nodded and rested her head on Jocelyn’s shoulder, "It’s not left for me alone, and Nicklaus doesn’t feel anything for me."

Jocelyn rubbed Arissa’s brown hair to comfort her. "How would you know he feels nothing when you haven’t told him how you feel?" she asked.

Arissa held Jocelyn’s arm, "I can’t tell him how I feel. My feelings are scattered around and he keeps on being so loving which lures me in,"

She took her face off Jocelyn’s shoulder and looked into her friend’s eyes, "Do you think he treats me the way he does just because I’m his wife?" her voice was low and almost like a sob.

She doesn’t know what’s wrong with her. Learning about his ex today woke her up from whatever slumber she was in around him.

But Jocelyn asked instead, "Why do I now feel like you are a woman in love?"

"Because I am," Arissa blurt out. She turned to Jocelyn, and seeing Jocelyn’s hands clamped over her mouth with wide surprised eyes, her words replay themselves and she turned pale.

What the hell did she just say!!?
