Chapter 218: Her Shy Phase.

"It’s alright," Adele told Nicklaus, buying his excuse for not giving a proper reason.

Nicklaus’s phone rang out of his pant pocket. He took his phone out and stared at the screen for a while. He pinched the skin between his brows.

"I have to take this, excuse me," he said to everyone but mainly to Arissa as he had his dark orbs fixed into her brown ones.

"Nicklaus..." Arissa breathed, transfixed with his captivating dark eyes, she forgot the two figures in the room and stood up.

Her hands cupped his face. Unlike his usual hard orbs, his eyes were filled with fondness, and with a deep inhale, his eyes went down her lips.

Jocelyn suddenly cleared her throat loudly, interrupting the enchanted couple lost in their world. "Umm, your phone," she pointed out when Nicklaus fixed his now-hard gaze on her.

Arissa’s eyes widened. Hurridly, she took her seat without meeting Nicklaus or Jocelyn’s eyes. ’This is embarrassing, what was I thinking?’ she reprimanded herself.

However, she loved the pull. It came to her realization that no matter how she tries, his pull would forever be stronger.

It baffled her, weirdly gladdened her heart, and also scared her. Turning to Nicklaus, he was already steps away with his phone in his ear.

Adele stared at the rosy cheeks girl seated beside her. That act caught her off guard. It left her stunned her sister could feel whatever she was feeling now for an opposite gender.

However, they looked so adorable and smitten with each other. All the more reason her doubt should wash away. They did but not entirely. She still felt something was under.

Subconsciously, she rubbed on her stomach.

Arissa’s pleased expression fell when she saw Adele rubbing her stomach with so much longing in her eyes. Though no words came forth from Adele’s lips about her baby, Arissa could tell she wants her baby.

"Adele..." she began.

Adele turned to her, the once happiness within her eyes was still there but not so bright anymore. "Arissa, did my baby have to pay?" she asked in a solemn voice.

Arissa’s whole body stiffened at the question. Though she had expected this question, she never planned on how to reply to it.

While the operation went on, Arissa knew there would come a day when she would have to explain to Adele. She thought she had been prepared but seeing the pain in Adele’s eyes, it broke her.

Her lips sealed on their own.

Arissa gulped, she looked far off at Nicklaus who had his back facing her before she tilted her head to Jocelyn. The air was now silently tensed and Arissa could feel Adele’s sadness even though her sister tried hiding it.

Jocelyn took it upon herself to answer, "I’m sorry, Adele," she came closer to the bed, "It was also hard for us to let go but we had to think about you first,"

Adele stared at her.

Arissa picked up from Jocelyn’s line, "I’m glad you already love the baby so much," she sniffed, "I’m sorry about what happened and for the fact I had to be selfish. That was our only option to be able to carry out the operation," she smiled, "No matter what, the baby would find its way to us again. All you have to do at this moment is to get strong and stay happy_"

Adele cut her off, "I would," she promised with a bright smile. Taking Arissa’s hand in hers, she balled it firmly, "Thank you so much, Arissa."

Arissa smiled at Adele understanding.

She raised their balled hands to her lips and kissed them, "I love you so much, you don’t have to thank me. We are family,"

At the mention of family, Adele’s body tensed up. Her head spins with all the abuse and sadness that comes with that team. The term family tore her limb by limb.

’You are not my daughter and would never be,’ he chuckled, ’Haven’t you one day asked yourself why you’re so different from us?’

’Arissa is our only child. We’ve been feeding you from scratches and now I think it’s time for you to repay us,’ the woman beside him chimed in.

These words replayed in Adele’s memory, strangling her from all angles, choking the little life in her out. That memory was on the day she was raped.

She remembered how she begged them with all she had, they turned deaf ears and even sat there and watched the paid men destroy her life.

She started into Arissa’s brown eyes. "Have Father told you?" she asked referring to the couple’s confession to her.

Adele wants to know if Arissa was acting out of the sister bond they shared or if she was completely clueless. Truth is she could bet on Arissa not abandoning her for that minor fact yet, she wanted to be sure she wasn’t beating on a false hope.

"He did," Arissa smiled at her, "but that doesn’t count. You once told me even on our deathbeds we should have each other’s back and now, sisters by blood or not, you are still my sister. In my heart, you own the largest space with the biggest mansion in it,"

Adele’s mood brightened, she smiled, showing all of her white teeth. "I love you so much, thank you," she appreciated with genuine love.

She added, "But I don’t think I own the largest space in your heart anymore."

Arissa blinked with a confused expression.

"No truer words have been said," Jocelyn agreed from behind.

"What do you mean?" Arissa asked, darting her eyes to and fro the both of them.

Adele burst into laughter and Jocelyn followed. Nicklaus turned to the ladies and took two steps away to continue his call.

That laugh was all Arissa had been waiting for all this while. She smiled alongside their laugh but that doesn’t mean she let go of the fact they were making fun of her.

What exactly were they talking about?

Adele calmed down, her face all red, making her look more alive. "He took my whole space," she said with an acting angry pout.

Arissa turned confused. "He? Who’s he?"

"Nicklaus. I was gone for just a few weeks and you’ve replaced me. You love him, don’t you?" she questioned softly.

Arissa coughed. "Love?" she feigned another cough, "I think that word should be rephrased,"

Adele smiled, "You haven’t gotten off your shy phase?"

"She hasn’t," Jocelyn answered.

"I have,"

"You haven’t!" Jocelyn and Adele countered in unison.

And that was the final blow as Nicklaus left the ward for them. Arissa turned to the closed door.

Now he was out, she took in a deep breath, "I have."

"What do you feel then?"

"What was that all lovey-dovey look about if you don’t?"

Adele and Jocelyn eagerly bombarded her with questions at the same time.

Arissa felt like she would go crazy. Talking about this makes her inside tremble as he also asked herself the same question.

Adele fixed her now curious eyes on Arissa. "Wait, why did you get married to him if you don’t love him?"

Jocelyn replied, "She does love him. We both know she’s just so shy to say it," she giggled, saving Arissa a** from the question.

Adele watched the two girls, her eyes now piercing. She still felt something under this marriage and she hopes it doesn’t have to do with what she was offered.

Whereas, Arissa was the couple’s real child. They won’t sell her off for business, or would they? These questions swam across her head.

There was a short silence until Adele said, "I feel sleepy,"

Arissa kissed her forehead, "Thank you for your fighting spirit,"
