Chapter 217: I Got Scared.

Chapter 217: I Got Scared.

Highlighting the car first, Nicklaus walked to her door and opened it, even before Lukas would. With a thin smile, Arissa highlighted the car and took his hand.

Lukas closed the door behind them and escorted them into the hospital in case of any threat around.

Their hand intertwined, creating a seamless bond between them. Getting to the ward door, Arissa halted and started at Nicklaus.

He understood the look and with a gentle nod, he encouraged her to go in. He stretched his hand to the door and pushed it open.

Arissa let out a gush of breath and let Nicklaus lead her in. Jocelyn turned to the figures who just walked in and shock was an understatement to what she felt when she saw who came in with Arissa.

Arissa pinched herself to see if she was in a dream only to realize she was in no dream but in a reality. Indeed, Adele was awake.

Jocelyn made way for her gaze to connect with the figure on the bed and when Arissa held Adele’s gaze, her feet paused.

She was currently staring into those dim green eyes that belonged to her sister. She coughed out a laugh, and tears immediately filled her eyes.

She had been waiting for this moment for what felt like an eternity. Her tears welled up the more when she saw with her eyes that Adele’s eyelids were finally open again.

It was as if time stood still for a moment, she held her breath, afraid to break the miraculous spell in the room.

A profound sense of gratitude and hope filled the air with a mixture of anxiety. Anxiety washed over Arissa when she saw Adele caressing her stomach.

Slowly, Adele met Arissa’s eyes. Her eyes were filled with a mix of confusion and recognition. It took a moment for Adele’s senses to fully awaken.

A beautiful smile lit Adele’s face up when she recognized who was standing before her. "Arissa," she murmured.

Arissa laughed with her tears gushing out. She broke free from Nicklaus’s hand and ran to Adele with no restraint but was careful enough to know Adele wasn’t yet stable to accommodate their usual floor roll hug.

"You’re awake," Arissa whispered, her voice filled with relief and joy.

Adele just nodded with a wider smile.

Arissa held Adele’s hands in hers and gave them a thousand kisses. "Finally....finally you’re awake," she choked out, her voice thick with emotions.

"I missed you so much," she added with a trembling voice, her inner self gradually overshadowing her built-up walls.

Adele smiled. "I also missed you."

Arissa sniffed, "I got scared and worried, I thought," she sobbed, "I thought I won’t hear your voice again,"

She gripped Adele’s hand more, conveying a flood of emotions that words could not express as more tears streamed down her face.

Her voice choked with tears, added, "You have no idea how much I missed you," she laughed before kissing Adele’s hands again.

Adele freed her left hand from Arissa’s hold and pat her younger sister’s head with it. "And you don’t know how I had to fight harder for you. I knew you got scared and lost,"

Arissa looked up at her with a soft nod, "Each day was a struggle," she confessed.

"I understand. Thank you for not losing yourself," Adele said with gratitude before looking around the room, "Where’s Father?"

Arissa smiled, "Get better, then we talk." she told her. Adele simply nodded and finally, her eyes fell on the intimidating man standing all by himself, awkwardly ten steps away from her bed.

She turned to Jocelyn and back to Arissa. "Who’s that?"

Arissa followed Adele’s sight trace and her expression was filled with an apology when she realized she had left him standing there without even offering him a seat.

Nicklaus nodded, having read her thoughts once again. A blush crept unto Arissa’s face. Releasing Adele’s hand, she walked towards Nicklaus and hooked their arms together.

The act earned a brow uplift from Nicklaus and Jocelyn even. Adele on her part waited patiently. Everything seems confusing to her.

She led Nicklaus to the bed. "Adele, meet Nicklaus, my husband," she said with an air of pride and turned to Nicklaus with a smile.

A strange sensation ran through Nicklaus at her words, his heart swelled greatly in satisfaction.

His face softened more. Turning to Adele, he just nodded at her while Adele smiled at him with a "Thank you,"

Jocelyn just stood by the side, watching all that happened with a grin on her face. She can’t wait to fill her ears up when she has a chance with Arissa.

’What’s going on? Husband? Hooking arms already? Smiling at each other?’ she thought. Are all of these a facade or the acts are genuine?

However, why would Arissa put up an act before Adele? The couple doesn’t even seem like one doing that. ’Were my words effective?’

"For what?" Nicklaus asked, about her words of appreciation.

Adele’s eyes met with Arissa’s eyes. Smiling at her sister, she faced Jocelyn and smiled at her, "Thank you," she said to Jocelyn.

She faced Nicklais again, "For everything,"

Nicklaus blinked at her and turned to Arissa. He was lost for words to say.

Adele got curious. "You got married, how? Why so fast? Have you ever told me about a lover while abroad?" she asked and the air in the room turned a little thick.

"Adele," Arissa started, unhooking her arm from Nicklaus’s, she took the seat beside the bed and held her palms together on her stomach, "Our marriage is what you could call a rushed marriage_"

"Why rush?" Adele cut her off, concerned.

"I_"

"We had to get a few things done using our union," Nicklaus spoke up from behind. With slow strides, he got to Arissa and placed his hand on her tensed shoulder before he squeezed it gently for her to relax.

Arissa met his eyes, he met hers with a look asking if she felt alright, to which she smiled as a reply.

Nicklaus rubbed her shoulder before going on, "It’s a bit complicated. Why don’t we talk about this over dinner when you’ve been discharged," he suggested.

Adele’s expression turned puzzled and filled with doubt but when she viewed how Nicklaus treated her sister and how comfortable Arissa felt around him, she decided to kill her doubt and wait until she get discharged.
