Chapter 214: A Part Of His Life.

Arissa yawned with new energy in her before snuggling into Nicklaus more. She stayed that way for a while, enjoying more of his warmth.

It left her amazed she would one day love someone’s comfort to fall asleep. No one has ever lured her to sleep the way he did.

She never knew when she drifted off to the sleep world, and neither does she know how peace in the morning felt until today.

In the past, she would have said she knew peace but the peace that came with waking up in his arms wasn’t a feeling but heaven.

She felt so secure and sound that she could make a daring bet with death fearlessly while in his arms this way.

She likes this man. She liked every little thing about him. Romantically? No, not romantically. She only like how he makes her feel.

Nicklaus stared down at the smiling woman in his arms. Her smile was so satisfied, and it left him wishing he would one day be able to give her that.

He wondered if the morning dream she was having involved him due to how she held him so close. Subconsciously, he stroked her back in downward strokes before kissing the center of her head.

"You’re awake." his deep voice noticed from above her which caused Arissa to part her eyes open. She had thought he would still be asleep and the kiss she felt was just from her wild imagination.

Arissa pulled her face off his hard muscles. "I am." she smiled at him. A smile, which Nicklaus returned brightly.

Placing a soft kiss on his lips, she asked "How was your night, dear husband?"

Nicklaus froze.

Husband?

The last time she gave him that title, things went bad between them which he won’t want to happen again but pushing that aside, the sound of those words leaving her lips was the most beautiful sound he have ever heard.

It left him flattered though.

Coming back to her question, "The fairest among all," he told her, "Did the nightmares return?"

Arissa shook her head. "They never did,"

Nicklaus gaped into her bright eyes. This morning, she looked more alive and delicate added with a more brilliant glow. Though her hair was all bushy, it left her more adorable. Morning hair looks best on her, showing how she could slay any look without any struggle.

"What’s your nightmare all about?" his voice was all curious while he entangled his finger with a strand of her hair.

"It’s not worth sharing," she brushed it off afraid saying it might awaken those mind-damaging tenacious scenes to visit her again.

Nicklaus nodded and pulled her closer, "I’m sorry you got scared."

Arissa took her hand to his face. Using her fingers, she caressed his face ever so gently. Why do I feel like we’re bonded? She asked herself.

"It’s okay, you were here when I asked for your presence and that’s what matters to me," she told him. Nicklaus inside trembled violently at her words.

He blinked. ’Why did my inside tremble this way?’ his heart pounded.

She continued. "That reminds me, did your nightmares return?"

Nicklaus breathed. "They seem to have vanished," he told her truthfully.

Arissa’s lips parted in shock. She felt something off at his words. Last night, while he spoke about his nightmares, they seemed extremely dark and he never looked like one adding words up.

However, that wasn’t the issue at hand. The question was, why did the nightmares disappear so suddenly? Just as he sent hers away, was she also able to send him away?

Were they bonded just as she had thought?

With a beating heart, she pressed on the nightmare issue. "How often do you have these nightmares?"

A low breath escaped Nicklaus’s lips. "Often, it’s hard I scale through a night without having one," he stared up at her ceiling, "It became a part of my life. A needed part I could never erase and I began to love them_"

"The nightmares?" Arissa cut him off puzzled.

Nicklaus nodded and then he gave her a brief kiss on her forehead. "Let’s not talk about it."

Arissa nodded in agreement. She wants this morning to be as beautiful as it is. The dark memories could come later. "So do we keep to the deal? I mean sleeping together."

Nicklaus chuckled. He understood what she was saying but decided to play a little. "Want me to put a baby in you?" he smirked at her.

Arissa frowned at his words. Exaggeratedly annoyed with what he said, she glared at him hard before rolling away from him.

She was about to get off the bed when Nicklaus pulled her into himself and held her waist firmly. Arissa took in a deep breath when their bodies were pressed that way.

Nicklaus acted out of instinct and before Arissa knew it, he was hovering above her, his dark eyes pouring flames down her brown ones.

"If that was a joke, I suggest you stop it," Arissa was the first to speak up, "Some jokes are simply not meant to be made," she lectured.

Nicklaus smiled down at her. "You don’t have to say this. It’s my line to say," he played on.

"Huh?"

Nicklaus scoffed with satisfaction and rolled away from her. "I_"

He was cut off by Arissa’s ringtone. Arissa picked up her phone from the lampstand beside her. Without looking at who was calling, she stared at Nicklaus for a while and went off the bed.

Nicklaus let her. Her previous stare demanded privacy. It hurt him she demanded privacy to answer someone’s call after all that changed between them but still, he would have to give it to her.

The ship could be slow but whichever way, he would make sure they get there safely, together in one body.

Arissa walked out of the room. It wasn’t like she doesn’t trust Nicklaus or do not want to share things with him, she very much do but don’t want to get too comfortable around him.

At least, until she can explain her emotions without stammering. Closing the door behind her, she replied to the call.
