Chapter 210: Baby Fever.

Arissa accepted Nicklaus’s order.

Getting into the kitchen with him, they sat on the kitchen counter with the already arranged meal before them.

Picking up a habit from her, Nicklaus led the prayer before their meal. Arissa was stunned for a moment. She wasn’t able to breathe or blink until it was time to say "Amen,"

She never expected him to pray. She once doubt he knew God but not anymore. Not after he had prayed this way with faith a thousand times higher than hers.

"Thank you so much for taking the time to prepare this," he appreciated.

Arissa simply nodded. "It wasn’t so difficult. Whereas, it was Jocelyn’s favorite and I do make it a couple of times for her until she changed her taste," she said to him with no knowledge of how cheerful she sounded.

Nicklaus smiled, "The scent alone is great," he scooped a spoon into his mouth and the corners of his lips lifted into a smile.

"I love this," he confessed and took another scoop into his mouth.

He looked charming eating with his defense down.

Arissa was so dazzled by his charms that she couldn’t help but stare at him to her heart’s content. As usual, each time she looks at him, her heartbeat fastens. Sometimes, it leaves her confused while most times it leaves her scared.

As he said earlier, he does love this dish. His whole concentration was on the meal before him. Using that chance, she just kept on starting.

"Is there something on my face?" Nicklaus abruptly asked, feeling self-conscious from her intense stare.

Arissa’s cheeks burned at the question. Here she was thinking he never noticed. She was just staring out of admiration but now that he asked, she magically happened to catch a glimpse of the small paste at the corner of his lips.

She started back at his face. Something told her he just added that to the corner of his lips on purpose. But why would he? To make her less embarrassed or less creepy, which one?

Biting her lower lip, she replied. "There is,"

"Hmm," Nicklaus mumbled and continued his meal.

"Can I take it off?"

Nicklaus finally stared at her. She has captured his attention again. He have been avoiding looking at her because he knew it would be difficult starting away when he do and now she just trapped him, he wasn’t sure he could set himself free.

Unless she sets him free.

"Sure," he permitted her with a little smile.

Reaching out on the table, Arissa grabbed a napkin. With a slight lean-in, she cleaned the food paste from the side of his lips.

Backing off, her fingers brushed against his lips, offering both of them electric sparks. She stiffened momentarily and stared into his eyes.

Holding her gaze, Nicklaus reciprocated the act. He lifted his thumb to her lips and brushed it on them softly - still holding her gaze.

A smile broke out on Arissa’s lips when he touched her that way. He touched her like he was feeling her for the first time. Which was so cute of him.

She blushed at the feeling. Taking her hand off his lips, she rubbed it on his face. Leaning closer, she pressed her forehead on his.

Holding his gaze, "Is this your favorite dish?" she asked.

Nicklaus heaved out a deep breath, "I’m a very picky eater," he lectured her, "But I love whatever you prepare," he eyed her lips.

His compliment blew her heart up in warmth. She gave him another smile and at the gesture of his eyes going down to her lips, Arissa swallowed as her face reddened the more.

Sticking her tongue out, she licked his full lips.

Nicklaus froze. "You are turning naughty," he told her, not stopping her action.

Arissa beamed sweetly. "Only with you," she poured her hot breath on his lips before backing away.

Nicklaus was tempted to hold her wrist and make her explain why she teased him that way. Yet kicked against it as he just watched her lean away from him until she sat back in her seat.

Arissa stared at his hand. "How did you get burnt? Wasn’t someone around to assist you?"

Well, he said they should talk over dinner.

Nicklaus’s gaze went back to his meal. "That would be answered the day after tomorrow,"

"Why the day after tomorrow?"

"I want you to join me to see someone tomorrow before saying anything to you," his cutleries kissed his plate." Would you?"

She doesn’t know why he suggested her to join him for just a simple question she asked but since he wasn’t a stranger but her husband, she decided to trust him. "When tomorrow comes,"

Nicklaus nodded as a yes and took his fork to his mouth.

Arissa also began eating but the moment she swallowed the portion in her mouth, she remembered something. "How many kids do you plan on having?" she asked almost immediately after she remembered the question.

Nicklaus dropped his cutleries and blinked at her, "Why do you ask?"

Arissa shook her head. She turned nervous, yeah! Why did she ask? Her eyes searched his eyes and weirdly, her palm turned sweaty. "Nothing, I was only curious,"

Nicklaus stared into her eyes. "Are you sure?"

Arissa nodded and shied away.

Nicklaus never wanted a baby but that story became of the past after meeting her. He could already picture a family with her.

"Well, I want just two kids. Would have said one but I won’t. The reason being I don’t want that one kid to feel lonely," he gave her an answer when she tried to back away from the conversation.

Arissa did not say a word. She just stared down at her meal to avoid the awkward conversation she brought up.

Nicklaus dropped his cutleries, "Would you want to give me one?" he asked.

Arissa coughed at his sudden words. Her cutleries forcefully fell off her hands and her heartbeat fastened once again.

Nicklaus’s poker face did not fall as he just stared at her. If anything, he only helped her to fill her glass with water to help stop her from choking.

Arissa gulped down the water gently.

When she calmed down, he asked again. "What do you say to my proposal?" his tune was serious which made Arissa understand he meant his words and wasn’t playing around as she thought at first.

"I’d pass," she picked up a napkin and dabbed her lips.

"Then I want zero kids," he declared casually before going back to his meal.

"What?" Arissa was almost close to choking this word out.

"I remain on the no baby stance," he met her gaze again with his dark ones, "Unless you want to give me one,"

Arissa felt her stomach drop at his words.

"You won’t hate the child?"

Nicklaus was taken aback by the question. "Give me one reason why I should,"

Arissa’s eyes fell, "This is a contract marriage. Won’t a baby make it seem difficult for us to separate?"

Nicklaus frowned at her words. She was right but that wasn’t enough for him to hate his seed..their seed.

Her misconception troubled him a little and with a low sigh, he said. "Don’t give me baby fever if you aren’t ready to take full responsibility for it. Maybe when you’re ready, we would talk about it. The childbirth process is not an easy foot so I suggest you think about it first." he advised her and went back to his meal.

Arissa inside trembled at his words and something new awakened in her. She speechlessly stared at him for a while before returning to her meal.
