Chapter 190: She Wants Her Husband Back.

Arissa relaxed her head on the car headrest in thought as she pondered over Jocelyn’s words. She never expected such a reaction from Jocelyn but she saw sense in what her friend said and advised.

It surprised her that Jocelyn understands Nicklaus more than she does. Now she understood why he was that way this morning.

Thinking about it, what had he expected her to say? If she had said how he made her feel last night, she would have ended up giving herself away.

Everything he does leaves her in awe and she can’t tell him that. Not yet until she understands her feelings. She doesn’t want to look like a fool before him by telling him some random words.

To be on the safer side, she decided to say the opposite of how she truly felt. She can’t explain how he does it but around him and with him, she always felt safe and protected.

The urge to show her vulnerable side to him was also there as she always felt comfortable and supported around him. But her mountains of defense wouldn’t let her.

She felt a thousand things for him, both negative and positive but she don’t want to look like a fool saying them all to him.

She can’t tell yet how she makes him feel and without being sure of it, she can’t let him know how she truly feels about him.

Though she just realized she sounded harsh, he was also wrong to ask her such a question when....when they, when they haven’t_ fuck! She no longer knows how to justify herself that she wasn’t so wrong to warrant such a reaction from him this morning.

She walked down the car the moment Lukas opened the door for her. She gave him a light absent-minded nod before walking further with the bags in her hand.

The whole company floor was quiet with only cleaners around. She gave a light nod to the few who recognized her with a bow.

She entered the elevator and got to Nicklaus’s floor. Standing before his door, she first took in a deep breath before turning to Lukas.

"Are you sure he’s in?" she wasn’t sure someone working was inside. From where she stood, she could see the light inside the office was all off.

"He is," Lukas clarified also starting at the door, wondering why the lights were off.

Arissa nodded and with an inspired heart, she passed one of the bags to the left hand and with a light knock, she opened the door with the other hand.

Arissa bit her lips at the pitch darkness she was welcomed with inside the office. She tried to catch a glimpse of something but she couldn’t as the place was extremely dark and a step might cause her to fall.

The place was silent with only a low slow tape playing. Arissa began to doubt he was in. If he was, he would have at least questioned the person who walked into his office

"Nicklaus," she called out for him. She needs him to walk through this darkness, "Nicklaus I_"

Nicklaus cut her off, "I do not want to see you," he gave her a piece of his mind.

Arissa was taken aback by those words he gave as a reply, "I know," she looked around trying to grab where he was answering from, "But could you please switch on the lights?"

And then, she heard footsteps. Her heart quickened with each step made and she could only blink nervously while she listened.

Getting to his desk, Nicklaus picked up the remote controller and with just a tap on it, he first silence the music playing before turning the whole place bright again.

"What do you want?" he stared directly at her face. The look on his face was as if telling her she was at the wrong place.

Arissa licked her lower lip, "It’s already past ten and you haven’t come back home. I figured you would spend the night here, so I decided to bring these," she went on to explain.

Nicklaus looked down at her hands. Seeing those flasks, his stomach grumbled in protest, reminding him he only drank coffee all through the day due to his heavy workload and well, her previous words.

Ignoring the protest in his stomach, he said, "I ate earlier," his tune was all frosty as he hoped she would take that as a cue to go back home.

"I see," Arissa nodded, "But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a taste, does it?" she went on to persuade him. His cold shoulders were melting her sanity and she wanted him back.

She wanted her husband back and not some cold stranger.

Nicklaus turned away from her and faced the magnificent city he saw the whole of from his where he stood.

"Honestly, you could have saved yourself that stress. The chefs here cook well," he turned to her, "And I could get whatever I want whenever I’m hungry," he told her.

Arissa blinked in hurt, her cheek turned red from sadness as she was now close to tearing up.

Nicklaus’s heart skipped a beat when he saw her expression that way. Running a hand through his hair, he tried to be indifferent but before he knew it, Nicklaus saw himself walking towards her.

He stood before her and stared into her eyes. He knows he can’t stay mad at her. It was torture to himself if he do that.

There was visible hurt in her eyes and Nicklaus wondered why she had that emotion in her after telling him off. He was the one who ought to have that look and not her.

Looking down at her hand, if it would make her feel better, he took the flask bags from her, "You could leave, I’d eat," he told her trying to stand by himself and not hug her.

He could see put out in a lot of effort to be before him and for that, he would have a taste of whatever she cooked but first, she should leave.

Arissa’s sullen expression lit up but still, "I haven’t eaten. I was hoping we could have dinner together," she said softly.

Nicklaus frowned, "You starved yourself?"

"I didn’t," She answered immediately, "I just waited for you to be home but you never came so I had to pack them up," she explained.

Nicklaus calmed down but not entirely. The fact he was at fault did not sound okay to him. The frown on his face tightened when he realized she was still before the door.

He held the two bags in one of his hands and held her hand with the other. Feeling his skin on her again, Arissa could not help but stare at their entwined fingers.

"Nick,"

"Let’s go in first,"

Arissa swallowed, his voice was still frosty, "There’s something I want to tell you,"

Nicklaus stared at her, "Seat," he ordered her when they got to the settee in the office.

Arissa blinked at him again. She don’t like this cold treatment he was giving her. It was beginning to eat her up.
