Chapter 189: Put Herself In His Shoes.

"Why are you so spaced out this morning?" Jocelyn eventually asked when she realized she have been talking to herself all these while or in this case, a statue.

She has been explaining Freya’s outcome on the model impersonating her progress but all this while, her friend has said nothing. Not even an ’oh’ as she was awkwardly spaced out while staring at the floor.

With her head bent that way for a while now, Jocelyn worried if her neck doesn’t hurt.

Arissa jolted from her thoughts. She turned towards Jocelyn in surprise and the sudden pull back to reality was a shocker as it left her visibly stunned.

"What happened?" Jocelyn questioned forgetting about her whole story.

Arissa raised a brow at her, "What do you mean what happened?"

"You spaced out,"

Arissa raised a pretense brow, "I did?"

"Yes, you did,"

Arissa’s lips thinned, "Oh," she said silently.

"Tell me what happened," Jocelyn demanded, placing a hand on Arissa’s shoulders, she tenderly rubbed on it, "Is this about Nicklaus?"

Her question earned a gasp from Arissa, "Why does this have to do with Nicklaus?"

Jocelyn’s hand rubbed Arissa’s shoulder and paused for a second. After a second, she continued again saying, "Because it’s all about him. You have been moody since you walked in here,"

Arissa blinked staring at the floor, "This has nothing to do with Nicklaus," she lied blatantly doing her possible best not to look at Jocelyn as her lie would be figured out if she did.

"I won’t buy that. Only your parents have the power to make you all ruffled up and lately, Nicklaus seems to have joined the list of people who could," she took her hand off Arissa’s shoulder and placed it on her lap, "You haven’t been in touch with your parents lately and_" now you look like an offended wife

Jocelyn was able to hold her tongue before that last line would spill out. She felt her heart on her palm when she imagined Arissa’s expression had she added that line.

"And?" Arissa asked curiously as she finally raised her face to Jocelyn. She has a sick feeling about what her friend was about to say.

Jocelyn released a smile, "_nothing," she said softly.

However, her voice turned serious in seconds, "You annoyed him again, didn’t you?"

"Huh?" Arissa was taken aback by the accusation. How could her friend accuse her like that when she doesn’t even know what happened between them?

Jocelyn stared hard at her, "What did you do to him this time? You promise me the last time, didn’t you? So why are you both arguing_"

"I never said we argued," Arissa cut her off, "I mean, this isn’t how you judge things. Aren’t you supposed to ask me what he did and not start judging me?" she questioned surprised at the fact Jocelyn wasn’t siding with her.

"Oh," Jocelyn suddenly burst out laughing which surprised Arissa, "You now admit he caused your moodiness," she said in a fit of laughter.

Arissa’s face turned red in embarrassment, "Stop laughing," her voice was a whisper as she almost pleaded.

Mentioning him wasn’t a good idea as right now, a lot of butterflies erupted in her stomach and made her feel silly. She now yearned for his presence.

Jocelyn chuckled as she tried to stop laughing, "And you are blushing!" she gasped.

Arissa’s eyes widened as her breathing turned nervous. When did she turn this way? Feeling heady over a man wasn’t her thing and would never be her thing.

So, can someone explain what’s all these?

"I’m not," she refused Jocelyn’s words as she palmed both sides of her cheeks with a serious expression.

"You are,"

"I’m not,"

"You are,"

Arissa sprung up to her feet, "I’m not," she said sternly, and Jocelyn could only eye her with a knowing smile, teasing her further.

"Enough," Arissa eyed her with a warning pout.

Jocelyn raised her both hands to the air in a surrendering manner with a smile on her lips. Arissa finally put her defense down and took her seat beside her friend.

"So, what happened between you both?" Jocelyn asked in a professional voice like a marriage therapist would do.

Arissa relaxed on the couch and with a deep sigh, she explained all that transpired between the both of them last night.

Jocelyn giggled all through and when Arissa talked about Mrs. Wyatt catching them in the moment, Jocelyn turned speechless from laughter but strangely, Arissa wasn’t even smiling.

"_and then, I told him he meant nothing to me and_"

Jocelyn inhale sharply when Arissa voiced out that sentence. She was so stunned at what she just heard that her sudden gasp was enough to cut Arissa off.

Putting herself in Nicklaus’s shoes, Jocelyn shivered at the thought of experiencing what the young man just experienced.

"You told him he meant nothing to you?" Jocelyn squealed, cupping her mouth with eyes wide from surprise, "That was harsh, you shouldn’t have said that,"

"Huh?" Arissa was all confused.

Jocelyn went on, "I never thought you to be this insensitive," she declared, "You just broke him," she explained softly when she saw Arissa’s confused expression.

"What?"

Jocelyn shook her head in surprise, "I’m disappointed you don’t know the gravity of your words," she said with a disturbed look.

Arissa blinked at her.

"Do I mean something to you?" Jocelyn asked seeing her still so indifferent.

Arissa furrows her brows in confusion. The question was stupid but still, she replied, "Of course you mean something to me,"

"And how would you feel if I say those words to you?" Jocelyn threw another sudden question at her.

Arissa stilled as she headed down the bus stop Jocelyn was driving to, "Jocelyn you don’t understand, he isn’t you," she tried to point out reasons but guilt slowly ate her up.

Jocelyn fumed at her friend’s words and with angered feet, she stood up from the couch, "You’re so insensitive, Arissa. I told you to soften your words to him and not speak before you think. Would you like it if he was the one who said that to you?! Could you handle it!?" she half yelled as she considered the patient in the ward.

Arissa froze, "Why are you taking this so seriously?" she asked, astonishment laced in her voice.

"Because it is!" she tried to calm down, "Contract or not, loveless or with love, he is now your husband and you just hurt him,"

"I was only being honest," Arissa mused in thought.

She understand Jocelyn was just being her. Her friend doesn’t take sides but Arissa felt this was too much. Were her words this serious?

Jocelyn sighed, "Yes, you should be. No one said you shouldn’t be honest but telling your husband he is no one to you was too extreme," she chastised Arissa, ", Especially not after turning him on. It makes it seem like he’s only good at the sex part,"

Arissa turned to her, "I never meant it that way. In the first place, why did he ask such a question?"

Jocelyn lowered her gaze in thought. She guessed the obvious but decided not to speak on it as she might be wrong so rather, she said, "I don’t know why but I think you should apologize to him,"

Arissa just turned away from Jocelyn with a confused look.
