Chapter 191: Shattered Feelings.

While Arissa was nervous with her heart pounding in her chest widely, Nicklaus went ahead with the flash in both hands casually like he wasn’t concerned with the thick air between them.

With the flasks in his hands, he opened the sliding French door facing the couch Arissa was seated on. The opening revealed a well-equipped luxurious living room.

Nicklaus walked over to the mini dining table in the living room. Placing the flasks on the dining table, he provided two plates from the kitchen cupboard.

He went on and emptied both flasks into the plates before going about, providing cutleries and other things they would need.

Arissa’s breath caught in her throat as she watched him. She couldn’t help but admire his every move and the way the soft glow from the dimly lit living room highlighted his whole features.

And also, the way his eyes sparkled with intelligence. The fact he knew what he was doing surprised her. She quickly averted her gaze, reminding herself that it was these same feelings that made her say those harsh words to him.

It wasn’t the moment to get lost in that feeling so, she just looked away and wondered why he was setting the table. He was visibly still mad at her, she saw it through his eyes.

However, Arissa’s eyes fell on Nicklaus again. She wanted to catch a glimpse of the magnificent view before her. She admired him further and even how his brow furrowed when he started at the table to know if he was missing something was breathtaking.

Absentmindedly, she walked towards him with her heart slamming her ribcage. She leaned on the door, taking in a deep breath, "Nick," her voice was barely above a whisper but Nicklaus still heard her.

He arranged the glasses one last time before standing straight. He turned to her. With his eyes fixed directly on her, he asked, "Is there something I’m not doing right?"

Arissa was speechless. Wasn’t he still mad? Are we alright now? She thought.

She searched the table for an error. She spotted a few but they were not glaring and with the way he handled the table, it was open to her that this was his first time arranging it.

It warmed her heart, that feeling returned, and positive goosebumps covered her skin. Her heartbeat tripled as she stared at the godlike man before her with a not-so-sure expression that made him look so cute and soft.

Why was he so bothered about setting the table?

"You got everything right," she said walking into the living room, "I just have something in mind I want to say,"

Nicklaus raised a brow, his curiosity piqued, "Go on." he permitted.

Arissa stood ten steps away from him. She hesitated for a moment, her heart racing, "I’m sorry, Nicklaus," she voiced out.

Nicklaus’s stern expression softened, and his raised brow fell as he waited patiently for her to go on. He wants to be sure she knew what she did.

Arissa went on, "I never meant what I said to you last night," she confessed, "I’m sorry it took so long for me to realize my words made you uncomfortable. I do care about you but....but about the feelings," she took in a deep breath, "I can’t tell how you make me feel. They are all scattered in a thousand places."

Nicklaus swallowed listening to her. He was still torn from her words last night. He mean her words were too harsh to his ears that even his stone-dark heart couldn’t take them.

He was in an emotional recoil last night as his head spin a million times from hurt. When he saw her this morning, his walls were still fresh so her actions did not affect him but the moment he knew she was the one who walked through the door, his heart skipped a beat and it was at that moment his whole walls crumbled.

His eyes stared down at her with a glimmer of understanding, "I know," he told her. He understands her battle better than her because he was also in it because of her.

He added, "It’s okay to feel conflicted. Sometimes, our heart knows what our mind refuses to accept. We only wish it’s not too late before our mind accepts it."

Arissa blinked, his words were quite deep and she wondered why he was telling her those.

Nicklaus walked towards her. He reached out for her hands and gently, he took them in his and squeezed them with a reassuring expression, "This marriage would be extremely complex joinery but whichever route you decide to take, remember it would always be the both of us against the world," he brushed the top of her nose with affection.

"I’m always here for you, no matter what," he added, and without a soothsayer to tell her, Arissa knew he meant all his words and to her, those words were extreme.

"Nick," she gasped.

His words were surprising. Warping her hands around his back, she pulled him into a hug with little tears at the brim of her eyes.

If making her cry was the mission he had tonight, then she would applaud him because it was mission accomplished.

She hugged him with raw emotions as she buried her head into his chest. Nicklaus did not hug her back, but that was okay. In as much as they are okay and he let her touch him but not avoid her, she was alright.

She felt a sense of relief over her as his words sank in. She might not have directly confessed her feelings, like how she always thinks about him which scares her.

But that was okay. When she would finally put the whole feelings in one word, she would surely let him know about it.

She was about to step away from the hug and that was when Nicklaus protectively wrapped his arms around her.

Arissa smiled, wrapping her hand around him possessively. In the dimly lit office living room, the air around them recognizes the weight of unspoken words, they left out saying and they both felt it.
