Chapter 128: It Left Her Wondering ’Why’

Arissa stared at the keys the guards just gave to her. Raising her face back to him, she asked, "When did he say you should return this?"

"Just this morning, Miss,"

’Miss?’ Arissa turned confused hearing her new title. Why did her title suddenly change?

"Okay, thanks," she said, waving the topic about her new title off. Her new title sounded so wired in her ears that she felt nauseous just listening to it.

Arissa took a step forward but halted when the guard behind her did not move an inch. He was supposed to follow her out of the house as usual, right?

"Diego? Did he also state I could now leave the house alone?" she asked turning around to the guard.

The guard nodded, "Yes, Miss, Mr. Wyatt ordered us to end our trail behind you,"

"Oh!" was all Arissa said in contemplation before turning back to the door. Tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, she tried to act indifferent but with the new title, she felt drained.

Remembering something, she turned back to the guard. Just before she would say a word, a familiar overpowering scent, with an intimidating aura seized her attention.

Raising her face, the aura lead her eyes to the staircase. She watched him patiently as he walked down the staircase all dressed up for work.

Nicklaus felt her presence around the living room. Tiling his head, his hard gaze met with hers and he gulped to stay strong but that was useless because his gaze softened the moment she held his gaze.

Nicklaus’s jaw tightened. With a glare, he turned away from her. Arissa’s eyes fell when he looked away from her and with all the courage she has, she took the first step.

"Nick," Arissa breathed out with hope as she started at the breathtaking figure decending the staircase with such a hard expression.

"Nicklaus," she called him again. She looked at him with the hope that he might have had a change of heart concerning last night’s fight.

Nicklaus did not turn to her but rather, stepped down from the last stair before turning her direction. Arissa thought he was walking over to her to at least say something but to her greatest surprise, he just walked past her with cold shoulders.

Chills ran down her spine when he did that, "Tell Lukas not to bother coming to the company today. Let him just book some hotel reservations for me," Nicklaus said standing before Diego.

Still ignoring her like she never existed, he took a step forward but halted. With his back still facing Diego, he continued, "Also, inform Geal to have a gentlewoman available at the hotel room before I close for the day,"

Arissa stood shocked. Her breath stifled hearing the order he just gave out.

A woman?

Another woman?

At a hotel?

Was he serious right now? She looked up at his broad shoulders but that was all she could do because he never turned to her and just walked out of the door.

Arissa took in a deep breath as she tried to steady her breathing. All of her attention was focused on the door, praying for Nicklaus to just walk in and say,

"Why do you look so pale like a ghost? All of what you just heard was a joke," or perhaps, a prank.

However, that was just her imagination because, in reality, Nicklaus never came back through that door. Again, the Nicklaus she knows doesn’t joke so, why would she imagine such nonsense?

"Is something wrong?" Diego asked curiously as he watched Arissa’s pale face with fear. She looked like she had no more blood in her body and it was kinda scary with the slight dark circles under her eyes.

His voice snapped Arissa out of whatever she was thinking, "I_" she choked.

Her throat was all dried up from what just happened. Clearing her throat, she tilted her head to Diego and smiled at him.

"I’m fine," she replied, swallowing a lump of guilt.

She surely has to be fine - perfectly fine, because, in the first place, she made them this way. She was the one who pushed him away so, she should be strengthened enough to take back whatever he would offer.

She moistened her lips with her wet tongue, still trying to breathe normally. Feeling Diego’s sorry eyes still on her, she felt irritated but still, turned to him with a low smile.

"You don’t look okay," he insisted.

Among the guards sent to watch Arissa initially, he was the jovial one that always hold little conversations with her no matter how awkward or irrelevant they might be so now it would be perfectly alright to say he cares about her.

Arissa gave him a ghost smile while she clutched onto her motorcycle keys and her mini-purse to confirm she was truly in reality and wasn’t just losing her sanity.

"I can handle this," she finally gave up, answering with confidence.

"If you don’t mind, I’d love to drop you off wherever you would be going. You don’t look too well to drive," he noticed.

Arissa nodded in agreement, "Thank you,"

Diego nodded before moving forward. Getting out of the penthouse, he helped her into the car. Holding her pale hands, his heart skipped a beat in fear noticing how weak and cold they were, unlike her normal aloof self.

The normal her would not let him five feet close to her but now, she requested for an uplift. Was she that sick? He needed to tell his Boss, his wife seem extremely sick.

Getting into the car, it was only her and Diego because due to Nicklaus’s strict order, the whole guards stayed back not to be at the receiving end of whatever their boss’s wrath might be.

Arissa tiredly rested her head on the headrest of the seat as she stared ahead. She knew she was perfectly okay, his words were what made her this weak and it left her wondering ’Why?’

Time without numbers, she was supposed to understand he would never be a one-woman man - she mean, who wouldn’t want a taste of him?

He was just walking sex on his toes.

But still, she doesn’t want this.

"Should I take you to Mr. Wyatt’s doctor?" Diego asked, with his eyes focused on the road. Yes, his boss seems to be acting nonchalant but with how he stared at her like she was all that mattered in just a split second, he was sure about his life being in trouble if something happens to the lady in his backseat.

"No,"

Her answer surprised Diego. Looking at her from the review mirror, he asked, "Should I inform Geal about the boss’s message?"

Arissa’s mouth widened and hope came alive in her eyes.

If not Diego might lose his job after this, she would have happily said a yes without hesitation but considering Diego, she realized Nicklaus would still reach out to Geal, and then, Diego’s sacrifices might go in vain.

"No," she rejected his offer as the light in her eyes diminished, "His lawfully right," she covered up, not wanting to open up on the hurt she was feeling inside.
