Chapter 105: Useless Misleading Feelings

Successfully staying far away from Arissa’s hearing, Collins stares at Nicklaus before turning back to Arissa.

"She’s beautiful," he complimented with pain in his voice as he stared far off at Arissa who sat there with a bothered expression.

She’s surely having a hard time with the baby, he thought.

Nicklaus turned to Collins and his eyes hardened at what he just heard. The fact that Collins was all focused on his wife turned him furious.

"I know right? Now, if you would excuse me, I would love to take my wife back home so we won’t have a problem concerning your disrespect,"

Collins snapped his head to Nicklaus when he heard the man pissed words. Turning to Nicklaus, he wasn’t spared as the man suffocated him with a death stare of disapproval.

"I would come back for her," Collins promised bravely as they both held each other glare.

Nicklaus swallowed and a hot sweat broke out from his back. With how Arissa acts around this doctor, something tells him that she would choose the doctor over him if the need arises.

He felt an odd pang in his heart at the thought of Arissa leaving him. It wasn’t a comfortable pang, it was a terrifying one. The feeling disturbed him.

Arissa can’t leave him, NEVER! He would do all he can to keep her beside him.

With his stoic mask still on, he chuckled, "You don’t say. She would not think about leaving when the two years expire," he boosted but his inside trembled as a question of what he would do if the exact opposite happens filled his chest.

Collins let out a hilarious scoff at Nicklaus’s reply. Unable to keep his curiosity to himself, he asked, "What made you so sure?"

Nicklaus’s eyes darkened as they turned deadly at Collins’s challenging taunt. With a relaxed and calm expression, Nicklaus smiled.

"Don’t be so sure about her choosing you. If she ever had eyes for you, you both would have been together two years ago. Don’t you think?" Nicklaus asked. There was a hint of derision in his tune as he gave Collins a portion of his own medicine.

Collins nodded his head slowly in acceptance and realization. What Nicklaus just let out was nothing but plain truth. Arissa had ever loved him but not more than the love she would give a friend because if so, she would have accepted him the night he confessed his feeling but rather, she left with Nicklaus and now they were happily expecting a baby.

Nicklaus moved closer to Collins and with a soft drop, he squeezed Collins’s left shoulder with encouragement.

Collins raised his downcasted face as he searched Nicklaus’s unreadable soul-piercing dark gaze. Turning to Arissa, his eyes lingered on her for a short while before back to Nicklaus, "Can we have a deal?" he asked Nicklaus.

Nicklaus drew his hand back to himself and stood aloof, "Why should we have a deal?" his voice was back to stern as his defense returned.

Why would he make a deal with this doctor concerning Arissa? He would only be at the receiving end if things go sour and as he had said before, Arissa would never leave him.

He would never let go of her.

Meeting Nicklaus’s eyes, Collins clarified, "It’s nothing serious for a deal. I just want to make sure that I’m giving up the woman I love to a man who would protect her. I want you to promise me that you would always respect and defend her no matter what," Collins trailed off, "and also, take very good care of her. Arissa might seem tough but her heart is weaker than a glass. If you promise to do these things and always keep her happy especially now that she’s with a baby, I promise to end all romantic feelings I have towards her because no matter what, I went her to end up happy with whoever she would be with. Even if I’m not the one,"

Nicklaus nodded in understanding, "I promise you that," he made a promise with the dangerously drowned-in-love man.

Good heavens, he would never be trapped in feelings as stupid as this. He did not come to this world for love.

Love was just a useless misleading feeling that even his father wasn’t spared from.

Stretching out his hand, he offered Collins a handshake to seal the promise.

Collins’s eyes widened with astonishment at the hand offer. Stretching his hand forward, he enveloped Nicklaus’s strong athletic hand into a bonding handshake as the air around them became less hostile.

Collins smiled, "I guess we have a deal then,"

"I think so,"

"Thank you," Collins thanked him.

Nicklaus chuckled inwardly. Seems like his baby trick worked sufficiently. Now, he had Arissa all to himself. He just has to make sure not to annoy her.

Parting the handshake, he faced Arissa’s direction, "I have to go back to my wife," he remarked and without waiting for Collins, he walked back to Arissa.

Collins released a pent-up breath. His whole inside felt good again with Nicklaus’s promise.

Now, he don’t have to be worried about her because his girl was now in safe hands.

Feeling okay, he walked towards the couple, "Can I have a hug?" Collins asked, back to his cheerful tune. Arissa beamed with his tune back to normal and she could not ask for anything more. With a wide smile, she stood up from her seat and walked towards her doctor.

"What I promise you haven’t changed. I’d always be a call away whenever you need me," Collins promised.

Arissa just nodded gratefully at his word and without hesitation, they seized themselves into a tight hug.

No matter how Nicklaus tried, he could not help but feel bad about the hug. His gaze darkened when he saw how quick Arissa was to hug Collins and suddenly, he yarned for her hug too.

An unfamiliar feeling rushed through him and ate his heart up. The urge to tear the hug apart and pull Arissa into his embrace stuffed his chest but his sanity ordered him to let them be.

This was the doctor’s last day so if this would make her happy, she should make it last.

Feeling the attention on them, Collins raised his eyes and glanced at Nicklaus. At that moment, understanding flashed through their eyes. Nodding at him, he parted the hug with Arissa.

"Take care of the ba_"

"I’m not pregnant Collins," she cut him off with all seriousness and Collins only chuckled.

Tilling her head sideways, she glared at that despicable husband of hers for the false new he just spread.

Nicklaus lazily met her glare with his sulking ones. He badly wished for such a happy hug from her, making him confused by his sudden cravings.

Arissa rolled her eyes at him before looking back at Collins. With a smile, she nodded her head in acceptance. For now, she has to focus on spending a last good time with him maybe when he arrives in his country of origin, she would call him and clear the pregnancy rumor seed Nicklaus just planted.
