His Mistress is His Ex-Wife
Chapter 77: Painful Truth

Chapter 77: Painful Truth

Dominique recalled how Sasha lied to him. She only told him that Sabrina collapsed due to fatigue and exhaustion. Who would have thought she was already four weeks pregnant at that time?

But he had to admit that he was also at fault here. He didn’t bother to check on Sabrina’s condition personally. If only he accompanied her to the hospital, he would learn that she was pregnant. He deliberately neglected her as he prioritized his revenge.

’Damn! I was such a fool! I even hurt her. I pushed her when I tried to separate her from Sasha. I was so harsh on her. I fucked up!’ He berated himself silently, fully acknowledging his grave mistake.

Lots of what-ifs flooded his mind yet Dominique tried his best to remain calm and composed despite the regret, sadness, and anger stirring in his heart right now.

"Can you still remember how Sabrina reacted when you delivered the news to her?" Dominique was curious about Sabrina’s reaction when she first heard about her pregnancy.

"Mrs. Smith was shocked at first. Then I saw her shed a tear. Maybe it was tears of joy. I haven’t talked to her for long since Miss Sasha entered the room, asking me to leave them alone. Your secretary talked to your wife. I planned to discuss her current health condition and her pregnancy but when I returned to her ward, Mrs. Smith was gone. She left the hospital. That was the last time I saw Mrs. Smith." Dr. Harris sympathized with Dominique.

Dominique fell silent. His heart could no longer endure the pain. The more he listened to Dr. Harris the more his heart was being crushed into pieces. The agony was too much to bear.

In the end, Dominique just found himself, walking out of Dr. Harris’ clinic with a troubled heart and heavy footsteps. Alice immediately approached Dominique as she sensed that something was off with him.

"Boss, are you alright?" She asked him worriedly. She couldn’t describe Dominique’s appearance at that certain moment. He looked like a living dead.

Dominique lazily waved his hand, signaling her to leave him alone. Instead of heading to his car, he simply continued to wander the streets without any particular destination in mind. Lost in thought, he didn’t know how much time had passed.

As Dominique wandered aimlessly through the bustling streets of Greenbells City, a heaviness settled in his chest, weighing him down with each step. Thoughts of Sabrina, of their lost child, and of the mistakes he had made haunted him relentlessly.

Unable to contain his emotions any longer, tears began to well up in Dominique’s eyes, blurring his vision as he walked. It did not take long before he stopped on his track. Silent sobs wracked his body, escaping in soft, choked breaths as he struggled to come to terms with the pain and regret that consumed him.

Passersby cast sympathetic glances his way, but Dominique didn’t mind them at all since he was too consumed by his own grief to notice the world around him. All he could do was let the tears fall, each drop a testament to the depth of his sorrow and the weight of his remorse.

Trailing behind him was Alice, her heart aching at the sight of Dominique in such a chaotic state. This was the first time she saw her Boss bawl like this. She didn’t expect to see his vulnerable side. Though she wanted to offer him comfort, she understood that Dominique wouldn’t welcome her attempts to console him.

In the end, Alice just remained on her spot, silently observing Dominique. She cared so much about him. And she hated to see him in pain.

’Sigh. If only I knew how to ease your pain...’ Alice felt sorry for him. From the very first moment she laid eyes on Dominique, she made a silent promise to herself that she would devote herself to supporting and aiding him in any way she could. She admired him a lot.

After what felt like an eternity, Dominique finally managed to gather his emotions, calming himself down. Though sorrow still gripped his heart, amidst this dark moment, he glimpsed the faintest glimmer of hope through Aaron.

’I should not give up. I still have a mystery to solve. What if Aaron is truly my son? Sabrina might still be alive. I need to confirm it. I have to confront the person who can give me an answer.’ Dominique wiped away his tears as he decided to return to York City.

[ At Gael’s Place... ]

Athena dropped by Gael’s house as she needed to talk to him. On the other hand, Lanny was the one accompanying Enzo, not allowing him to roam around York City alone.

"Hey, Sab, what’s wrong? You look troubled by something." Gael guided her to the sofa, making her seat.

Athena exhaled deeply. "Today has been quite eventful," she remarked.

Gael offered her a cold drink before sitting down next to her. "Okay. Tell me everything. I’m willing to listen."

"My brother has returned. He will be staying in Lanny’s condo unit in the meantime. We visited our parents’ graves today. We convinced him to work under Lanny so that we could keep an eye on him while he tried to recover his memories."

"That’s a good plan. I know this is not something you should be worried about. Now, tell me, what’s bothering you?" Gael asked her directly.

"Lanny and I had planned to meet with Oliver Jones for a business negotiation," Athena explained, her voice tinged with frustration. "But we never expected Melody to accompany him. Today, Enzo ran into Melody by chance, and she unleashed a barrage of harsh accusations at him, even going so far as to label him a murderer! She even called the police. It caused quite a scene, and I could see how shocked my brother was. He was completely blindsided, unable to recall whatever transpired in the past."

Gael frowned in annoyance when he heard that. "Your shameless cousin is really good at bringing trouble to you and your brother. So what happened to Enzo? Did the police capture him?"

Athena shook her head frantically. "No. They didn’t capture him. Gael..." She paused for a moment, staring at Gael’s eye before she continued. "I don’t understand Dominique’s motive. I can’t figure out why he refrained from filing charges against Enzo. We just found out today that Enzo has no criminal record and he is no longer included on the wanted list of YCPD."

Gael was taken aback when he heard this unexpected news. Even he himself got confused as to why Dominique opted not to pursue legal action against Enzo.

"Perhaps he took pity on Enzo? Or he somehow felt guilty for what he did to your family." Gael suggested contemplatively. But he himself wasn’t convinced with his own words.

Athena and Gael locked gazes for a long moment, both of them disregarding the thought of Dominique harboring some sense of guilt for the harm inflicted upon Sabrina’s family. They thought Dominique wasn’t capable of doing that.

They were still in the middle of their conversation when suddenly the doorbell rang.

Ding! Dong!

"Eh. I have a visitor at this hour." Gael mumbled, shifting his gaze to the front door.

"Stay here, Sab. I will just check who’s at the gate." Gael made his way to the door where the video intercom was installed. He was surprised to confirm the identity of the person who had rang the doorbell.

"Gael, who is your visitor?" Athena inquired curiously, noticing the anxious expression on his face.

"It’s Dominique..." Gael trailed off, his voice tinged with concern as he awaited Athena’s reaction.

Athena: "..."
