Chapter 62: Game Plan

Chapter 62: Game Plan

"Athena! Come here! You have to see this!" Lanny screamed while browsing her laptop. She was arranging Athena’s schedule for the week when she received an email from W Diamond Group.

Athena was editing her Ye-tube video when Lanny called her attention. She stopped what she was doing and approached her friend. She sat in the vacant space next to Lanny.

"What is it?" Athena asked her expectantly, shifting her gaze to Lanny’s laptop screen.

"W Diamond Group wants to have a meeting with us for a project collaboration. This is your family’s company, right? And look! This email was sent by Sasha! She wanted to meet us in person to discuss further details regarding their offer!" Lanny pointed her finger at Sasha’s name.

Athena’s eyes set ablaze when she read the email. The SACE Group has been changed to W Diamond Group. And Sasha had become a Marketing Director.

’This is the company I should acquire from the Williams family. I must get it back no matter what.’ Athena thought to herself.

"Let’s accept this invitation, Lanny. We have to meet Sasha tomorrow. Prioritize this request." Athena couldn’t wait to meet Sasha face-to-face.

Lanny nodded in agreement. "I’ll push our schedule with Jones International Inc. We will meet them the day after our negotiation with W Diamond Group."

"Sounds good to me," Athena replied.

"Hehe! I’m so proud of you, Athena, so many projects lining up for you. But don’t strain yourself too much. Okay?"

"Thanks, Lanny. Of course, I’ll take care of myself."

They were still talking when Athena received an incoming video call from Gael. She immediately grabbed her laptop and answered Gael’s call.

"Hi, Gael, wazzup!" Athena greeted him cheerfully. She could see that Gael was sitting in his office.

"Sabby! I have good news!" Gael exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Athena. Stop calling her, Sabby." Lanny butted in as she took a glance at Athena’s laptop.

"Oh, I’m sorry. It’s tough to break old habits," Gael responded, smiling sheepishly.

"It’s fine. Gael can call me that if no other people are around." Athena could understand if Gael continued calling her Sabby.

But Lanny objected firmly, "We need to be cautious. What if you’re being wiretapped? Or someone has installed a bug in your office? We can’t afford to let our guard down." She lectured the two, emphasizing the importance of vigilance.

Gael and Athena could only smile guiltily. Lanny had a point.

"I will keep that in mind, Lanny. Then should I just come to Athena’s place right now to report something?" Gael said, grinning from ear to ear. At least, he had found a reason to see her personally.

"Oh, I’m just kidding. You can tell us now. What updates do you have?" Lanny asked him directly.

"W Diamond Group wants Athena to become their endorser for their upcoming Product Launch. Sasha will approach you soon!" Gael informed them.

Athena and Lanny exchanged glances with one another.

"Gael! You are amazing. You’ve already heard this news! We’ve just received their email," Lanny said with amusement.

"Of course! I’m building connections, planting spies on our enemies’ turf! Hehe," Gael replied half-jokingly.

"You learned this from watching a lot of Spy Movies." Athena teased him, letting out a soft giggle.

Gael and Lanny also laughed when they heard her remarks.

"By the way, according to my friend who is working under Sasha’s team, she believed that Sasha didn’t want Athena for this. She wants Minerva, an artist from YJ Entertainment. She is worried that Sasha will do something so that Athena will not accept the offer." Gael was thinking about the possibility of Sasha sabotaging the negotiation.

"Hmm! So Sasha is still wary of Athena because of Melody’s revelation. She didn’t like Athena to get this endorsement project because she was jealous of her after what happened in the auction during the Circles Event." Lanny had figured out the situation.

"Oh, we are thinking alike, Lanny!" Gael chuckled. "So how are you going to deal with Sasha?" he asked.

Athena smirked slyly and said, "I think I know what to do in dealing with her. I have to befriend her and earn her trust. I should be harmless in her eyes. I’ll pretend I’m not a threat in her relationship with Dominique."

"Besides, that’s precisely what they did to me. They gained my trust then backstabbed me in the end. It’s time for them to taste their own medicine. Sasha must experience the same betrayal," Athena declared, a chilling glint in her eyes.

"Haha! I freaking love your idea, Athena! I can’t wait for that moment to come. Faceslapping the bitch! Outplaying her at her own game!" Lanny applauded Athena’s strategic approach.

Athena turned to Lanny with a wide smile. "I learned this from you. You are a great mentor and a coach!" She praised Lanny.

Athena, Lanny, and Gael burst into peals of laughter. They were looking forward to punishing Dominique, Sasha, and the Williams Family.

"Please keep me updated on the latest happenings. And if you need anything, I’m here to assist you." Gael reassured them.

"Okay, Gael. Athena and I are planning to respond to their email. We will meet Sasha tomorrow."

"Athena, Sasha will bring someone with her. Her name is Bella. She is your avid fan. She’s having a hard time in the company because she was the one who recommended you to be the endorser. Can you give her some encouragement and cheer her up?" Gael requested. He thought Bella deserved a reward from her idol. This could encourage and motivate Bella to work harder.

"Oh, sure. I would be happy to meet Bella. She’s the reason why they considered me to become their endorser. She helped us a lot. I shall repay her. Because of me, Sasha bullied her. This is the least I can do for her." Athena was so glad to hear about Bella.

"Thanks, Athena. Bella is sweet, innocent, and pure-hearted. You will definitely like her."

"I trust you, Gael. She is your friend so I know she’s a good person."

"You flattered me so much. Anyway, I shall go. I still have a meeting with the hospital directors. Athena, I’ll visit you on Saturday." Gael bade them farewell as he hung up.

When the video call ended, Lanny remembered something. "Athena, Aaron might be waiting for you to call him. You promised him, right? You still have two hours before he goes to bed."

"Yes. I’ll call him now. I miss the kids. Too bad I was not there to send them off."

Lanny glanced at Athena guiltily, biting her lower lip. ’Oh shucks. Gael and I haven’t told Athena yet about Aaron accidentally meeting Dominique. I can’t find the right chance to tell her. Maybe, I’ll tell her tonight.’

"Lanny, I’ll just go to my room to call Aaron," Athena excused herself. This was her bonding time with her son.

After fixing her laptop on her desk, Athena contacted Aaron through a video call. It was answered right away. Lanny was right, Aaron had been waiting for her call.

"Hello, Baby, how are you?"

"Hi, Aunt! Here I am... I’ve been missing you and Mama. Are you back in York City? I’ve heard you had an unstable network on the island, that’s why you couldn’t call me."

"Yes, dear. I’m so sorry about that. But don’t worry. I’m back in York City with a stable internet connection."

Aaron let out a soft giggle. "Aunt, I’ve been dying to tell you that I made a friend before I left York City. He is such a nice guy. I’m thinking of introducing you to him! He is also talented. He is good at playing guitar. He promised me that he would teach me how to play guitar once I returned to York City." Aaron was so happy as he spoke spontaneously.

"Oh, really. Now, I’m curious. Who is this lucky guy who made friends with my charming angel?" Athena asked him, intrigued.

"His name is Dominique Smith."

Athena felt like a bucket of cold water had been splashed into her whole body when she heard that name. ’What? Did I hear it right? The guy whom Aaron met... is none other than, Dominique Smith?’

Athena was at a loss for words. She was shocked beyond belief. And she didn’t know how she would react in front of Aaron.

Not noticing her strange reaction, Aaron continued to speak. "I met him through a chance encounter. I got lost in the mall. Then he helped me find Uncle Gael and my sister. He is a good person–"

"No! He isn’t!" Athena blurted out, unable to control her rage. She accidentally raised her voice, making Aaron stop. A mixture of anger, hatred, and fear could be seen in her eyes.

Aaron looked at her worriedly. "A-Aunt...Why are you mad? Do you know him?"

Confronted by Aaron’s innocent query, Athena was taken aback for a moment.

’Oh Damn! I lost my composure in front of Aaron. I overreacted,’ Athena thought to herself, her expression softening.

"I’m sorry, dear. I don’t know him. It’s just that he is a stranger. Don’t trust him. Okay?"

Sensing the changes in her mood, Aaron avoided talking about Dominique. He was wondering why Athena reacted that way. But he chose not to ask her further because he didn’t want to upset Athena.

After spending time with Aaron, Athena returned to the living room where Lanny was still working on her laptop.

With a serious tone, she spoke up, "Lanny, we have to talk. Did you know that Aaron met Dominique? Why didn’t Gael mention this to me?"

Lanny: "..."

’Oh Shoot! Athena found out.’
