Chapter 61: Puzzle

[ At YCPD: York City Police Department...]

After leaving W Diamond Group, Dominique headed straight to the York City Police Department to address an urgent matter. He met the Head of YCPD, Chief Clint Espinas.

The YCPD Chief of Police was Dominique’s close friend. He went there to seek his help. Chief Espinas wouldn’t be able to refuse him because he was indebted to Dominique. He was promoted to his current position because of Dominique’s influence and support.

"Mr. Smith, to what do I owe the pleasure of this surprise visit?" Chief Espinas greeted him warmly, gesturing for Dominique to sit down on the vacant sofa.

"I have a favor to ask you, Clint." His tone was serious and direct.

Clint furrowed his eyebrow when he sensed the importance of this matter. Dominique wouldn’t come if this wasn’t urgent.

"Tell me. What is this all about? How can I help you, Dom?"

"This is regarding the case of my brother-in-law, Enzo Williams."

Chief Espinas was surprised at the mention of Enzo’s name. "That’s the person who attempted to kill you. Have you found him? I can mobilize my whole team to capture him now!"

"No. That’s not what I want. I’ve decided long ago not to press charges and not take legal action. I came here to request to clear his name, removing his crime record. Remove him from your wanted list." Dominique firmly stated.

Clint’s jaw dropped and his eyes widened with disbelief. "Are you serious, Dom?! Hey! Hey! Attempted murder is a serious crime. He went missing five years ago. We are uncertain if he is still alive or not. If I remove his crime record, there is a possibility that he may cause you further harm once he returns."

Dominique narrowed his gaze at his friend, feeling displeased by the questioning of his decision.

"Clint, the primary purpose of me assisting you in obtaining this position was for precisely this," Dominique muttered in his stern, cold voice.

Clint was at a loss for words because of Dominique’s frankness. ’Oh, Shit! I annoyed him. I shouldn’t have questioned him.’

Clint scratched the back of his head and said, "Alright, I get it. I’ll do it. Don’t get upset. I was just making sure you were serious about it. You can’t blame me if I’m concerned for your safety. After all, I’m your friend." He decided not to argue further since Dominique was not in a good mood.

"Thanks for your concern but Enzo is not a threat," Dominique responded. "I trust you to handle this matter discreetly."

Clint took another deep sigh. "Okay. I will. No need to act so cold." He approached Dominique, patting his back.

After making sure that Clint would do his request, Dominique stood up.

"Mr. Smith, are you leaving already? Can’t you stay longer for a drink?" Clint stopped him.

"I’m busy," Dominique shortly replied before leaving the office.

Clint just watched Dominique’s back helplessly until he vanished from his sight. "Why do I feel like a Chief like me has become his Lackey? What a clever man."

Meanwhile, Dominique had reached his car. As he settled inside, his gaze lingered intently on the photo sent by his subordinate. As he read the reports repeatedly, Dominique’s mind raced, dissecting every detail.

[ Boss, someone from York City visited Enzo here at Fortuna Grande Island. She introduced herself as his friend. Her name is Athena Ivankov. Attached here is her photo with Enzo during the Lantern Festival. ]

[ After meeting them, Enzo expressed his desire to regain his memory. He wants to return to York City. I think it will be hard for me to stop him. He might get suspicious of me. ]

The message coming from his subordinate had not only shaken him to the core but had also shifted his decision. Instead of avoiding Athena, he must get to know her more.

Furthermore, because of the report, Dominique took action immediately. Enzo might return to York City so he needed to clear his name and remove his crime record so that he could go back to York City without facing any troubles.

Dominique had been protecting Enzo in the shadows. This person was very important to Sabrina. He couldn’t possibly harm Enzo after what he did to Sabrina. This was the least he could do for her.

How did she become friends with Enzo and the Williams Family? Does she know Sabrina?

His fingers drummed anxiously on the steering wheel as he scrutinized the photo. A sense of unease settled over him, mingling with growing suspicion. ’What if Athena is Sabrina herself?’

Dominique’s jaw tightened as he reached a decision. With a determined exhale, he called his secretary.

"Contact Athena’s manager and set a meeting with them. Prepare a business proposal. Use it as an excuse to collaborate with them." Dominique was prepared to delve deeper into the shadows to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.

"Noted sir."

"Please find out where Athena is staying here in York City," Dominique commanded with eagerness.

After hanging up, Dominique pocketed his phone, Athena’s image etched into his mind. "Who are you, Athena Ivankov?" Athena’s identity was like a puzzle he needed to solve.

[ York City FoodHauz... ]

Bella entered the restaurant excitedly. She couldn’t wait to meet her friend. Today, she would vent her frustrations and share them with a friend.

The waitress immediately recognized Bella. "Miss Stones, Booth 6 on the second floor."

"Thanks, Mimi!" Bella headed to their usual spot. She could tell that her friend was already there since this place was closer to his office than hers.

She pushed the door open and called him out as soon as she spotted him. "G!!!"

"Hey, B!" Gael waved his hand, greeting her with a warm smile.

Bella hastily approached him, sitting next to him. "G! I was bullied at the company! Our Director slapped me without any reason. She was mad at me when I recommended my idol to become our product endorser."

Bella spoke spontaneously, wanting to let it all out of her chest. She was glad that Gael was there to listen to her rant.

"That was so unfair, right?! I’m just trying my best to do my job as the Marketing Coordinator. In the end, I became an eyesore in her eyes. I bet my workplace will be hell in the coming days. What should I do?" Bella pouted, putting on her pitiful face. She gazed at Gael as she fixed her eyeglasses.

Gael could only smile and gently patted her head. "Hey. Don’t be such a crybaby. This is part of your experience." He tried to console her.

"I’m sorry. It’s my fault. It was me who recommended you to work at W Diamond Group." Gael continued petting her head as if she was a puppy.

’Hmm. I think Sasha is jealous of Athena, that’s why she got mad at Bella when she recommended Athena.’ Gael started to see the picture of what happened.

"Don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault. My other colleagues are kind. Only my director is the terror one." Bella frowned as she remembered Sasha’s violent behavior. "She’s abusing her power, slapping a poor employee like me."

Gael lifted her chin and examined her face. "Where did she slap you?" He asked her with concern.

Bella’s cheeks reddened instantly because of Gael’s sweet gesture. Her heart began to run wild inside her chest.

Badum! Badum! Badum!

"I-I’m fine now. It happened a few days ago," she stammered, trying to calm her racing heart.

Gael heaved a sigh of relief. "Don’t let her bully you next time. Okay? You should fight back."

Bella nodded frantically. "You don’t have to worry. I think Chairman Williams has my back. He is happy with my performance. I won today against Director Smith," She proudly said.

Gael watched her in puzzlement. "You won? What are you talking about?"

"This morning we had an emergency meeting for the selection of the last endorser for our upcoming Product Launch, Mystery Jewels! Director Sasha recommended Minerva while I recommend my idol, Athena. The board members voted and Athena was chosen.

Gael was taken aback when he heard that. This was a piece of good news!

"All we have to do now is set a meeting with Athena’s manager to negotiate and convince her to accept our offer. This task is given to me and Director Sasha."

Gael smiled, pinching Bella’s cheeks. "You did great, Bella! Congratulations!"

"Thanks, G! I can’t wait to see my idol. This is a dream come true!"

Gael just let out a soft chuckle. Bella had no idea that Athena was Gael’s friend. He could easily set a meet-up for the two of them. However, in the meantime, he needed to hide his connection with Athena.

"Sigh. I hope things will go smoothly. I’m worried about working with Director Smith. I think she wants Athena to reject the offer so that she can recruit Minerva instead." Bella expressed her concern.

"Don’t worry. I think Athena will be happy to meet you. She will definitely accept the offer," Gael reassured her.
