Chapter 224: Confusion

Lanny didn’t know what to say when Athena brought up Vladimir. She knew her brother. He was capable of doing that– eliminating his enemy. Furthermore, she was aware that Luna had been monitoring Dominique’s movement for the past few days.

"Lanny... last few nights, I think I saw Luna. I thought it was just my imagination but now, I’m convinced that Luna might be following me or Dominique." Athena expressed her thoughts.

She didn’t want to doubt Vladimir, but Luna’s presence made her suspicious of him.

Sensing that her friend was troubled by this, Lanny held her shoulders and looked at her.

"Athena, what will you do then if this is not an accident? Will you hate my brother?" She asked her hypothetically.

Athena fell silent when confronted by that question. Would she get mad at Vladimir just because he hurt Dominique? She didn’t know what to feel at that moment.

"I need to talk to him. Now!" Athena wouldn’t feel at ease. In the back of her mind, she wanted to clear Vladimir’s name. She didn’t like the feeling of doubting the person she trusted.

Lanny nodded. "Alright. Sasha is on her way now. I instructed the nurse to call her as his guardian. You shouldn’t stay here. Sasha must not see you."

"But the police will investigate. Aaron and I are witnesses to this accident. This is a hit-and-run case. I’m afraid this will add trauma to Aaron." Athena cast another worried glance at Aaron.

"Sigh. This is an unfortunate incident. It shouldn’t have happened in front of the children." Lanny tapped her shoulder. "Anyway. We don’t have control over this. We should leave now together with the kids."

Athena nodded in agreement. She took one last glance at the emergency room, her heart filled with anxiety. ’Yeah. I have to leave. Sasha is coming. She is his legal guardian.’

Lanny and Athena approached Enzo and the children.

"We need to go home. You can’t be here." Lanny told them.

But Aaron was reluctant to leave. "Can we stay here, Mommy? Let’s wait for the doctor to update us on Uncle Dom’s health status. I want to know that he will be fine. It’s my fault—I’m the one who invited him to join us. If I hadn’t, he wouldn’t have gotten into this accident."

Athena knelt down to Aaron’s level, gently placing her hands on his shoulders. "Sweetie, it’s not your fault. You couldn’t have known this would happen. Uncle Dom wouldn’t want you to blame yourself."

Tears welled up in Aaron’s eyes as he looked at Athena, guilt and worry etched on his young face. "But, Aunt, I feel so bad. He got hurt because of me."

Lanny joined them, kneeling beside Athena. "Aaron, accidents happen. The important thing now is that Uncle Dom is getting the best care possible. The doctors are doing everything they can."

Aaron sniffled, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. "Okay, but can we at least wait for a little while longer? I want to be here when they tell us he’s okay."

Athena’s heart ached to see her son so troubled, but she managed a reassuring smile. "Of course, we can wait. We’ll be right here until we know how he’s doing."

The two ladies stood up as they exchanged meaningful glances with one another.

Lanny whispered to Athena. "Sasha is coming. You must leave. I thought you wanted to talk to my brother?"

Enzo somehow overheard her. "If you have somewhere to go, I can stay here and accompany the children," he volunteered.

Athena was conflicted for a moment before she decided. "Alright. Thanks, Enzo. I’ll come back as soon as I finish talking to him."

"I’m coming with you!" Lanny blurted out. "You must behave here. Don’t roam around and just stay here with Enzo." Lanny specifically told Kimmy.

"Yes, Mommy. Don’t worry about us. I am well-behaved." Kimmy reassured her.

They were still talking when another figure joined them. It was Gael.

"Athena!" He called her.

Athena just remembered that Gael’s family owned this hospital. He was the CEO of Tan Group of Hospital.

"I heard what happened. Are you alright?" Gael asked her worriedly.

Before Athena could answer, Lanny cleared her throat, reminding Gael to keep her distance from Athena. Otherwise, people would learn that they knew each other.

"Uncle Gael!!!" Kimmy’s voice echoed in the waiting area as she ran into him, hugging his legs. "You are also here. I miss you!"

Lanny could only shake her head as she facepalmed. Her daughter was so fond of Gael.

"Hi, little princess." Gael smiled, stroking Kimmy’s hair. "I didn’t expect to see you here."

"I’ve been wanting to visit you," Kimmy responded before biting her lower lip.

"Sigh. We can’t stay here for long. Athena and I will go somewhere. Let’s talk later." Lanny immediately grabbed Athena’s hand. She just wanted to prevent Sasha from seeing Gael and Athena together. Sasha might be arriving soon.

Without further ado, Athena followed Lanny as they stepped out of the hospital lobby. Just as they reached Lanny’s car, they saw Sasha arriving.

Athena stood rooted to the spot, her eyes fixed on Sasha. She observed the panicked expression on Sasha’s face as she rushed inside the hospital, her movements frantic and desperate.

’She really loves Dominique,’ Athena thought to herself.

Lanny turned to Athena, concern etched on her face. "Athena, are you okay? Shall we go now?"

Athena nodded as she stepped into the car.

Meanwhile, outside the emergency room, Sasha arrived and saw Gael talking to Enzo along with the two children she had met at the amusement park earlier.

’Why are they together?’ she mused to herself before approaching them.

"Gael, where is my husband? Is he okay? The nurse called me. They said he got into an accident! Is it true? How did it happen?" Sasha bombarded Gael with questions, her voice filled with panic.

Then she turned to Enzo, her eyes blazing with anger. "And you?! What the hell are you doing here? Did you do this to Dominique? Did you harm him? You tried to kill him before but you failed. Now you’ve returned to get your revenge!" Sasha was hysterical, her voice rising as she confronted Enzo. She even pushed him, her emotions boiling over.

Enzo staggered back, his expression a mix of shock and frustration. "Sasha, calm down! I had nothing to do with this. I’m here because I’m the one who brought him here."

Gael stepped between them, trying to diffuse the situation. "Sasha, listen to me. Enzo is telling the truth. He had nothing to do with the accident. He is not the driver who hit Dominique."

Sasha’s eyes darted between them, her breath coming in quick, shallow bursts. "I don’t believe you. This can’t be a coincidence. How can I trust any of you? Both of you hate Dominique to the core!"

The two children, sensing the tension, just watched Sasha, their eyes wide with confusion.

’Why are they fighting?’

"Miss, Uncle Enzo, and Uncle Gael are telling the truth. How can you blame an innocent man? Uncle Enzo is a good man. He will never harm a person!" Kimmy defended Enzo. She hated it when Sasha accused him.
