Chapter 201: Jealousy and Doubts
[ At Starlight Group Building... ]
Sasha dropped by Dominique’s office to deliver a lunchbox. She had been distressed for the past two nights, tormented by what had happened between her and Ashton. To her surprise, Dominique never confronted her.
’Does he know, or is he just feigning ignorance?’ Sasha pondered as she watched Dominique work on his laptop while she prepared his lunch on the table.
"Babe, were you the one who rushed Athena to the hospital? Did you come home after that?" Sasha asked, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Yes, I did. But I didn’t go home," he replied simply.
Sasha frowned. ’Does that mean he stayed at the hospital?’
"Did you stay in the hospital the whole night?" Sasha probed further, unable to quell the surge of jealousy. She felt it should have been Ashton taking care of Athena, not Dominique.
As she pondered, a nagging thought lingered in her mind: Was the spiked wine deliberately switched by someone, or was it an accident caused by the chaos of taking care of Athena, who had suffered from menstrual cramps?
"No, I didn’t stay in the hospital," Dominique lied smoothly. "I went to the office because I forgot something. But because of exhaustion, I ended up sleeping in my nap room."
Sasha scrutinized him, trying to gauge if he was telling the truth. She had always been good at reading people, but Dominique’s calm demeanor made it difficult to tell.
"Really? You didn’t go home at all?" she pressed, hoping to catch a glimpse of any sign of deception.
Dominique met her gaze steadily. "Yes, really. I knew you’d be asleep by the time I got back, so I figured I’d just rest at the office. No point in waking you up in the middle of the night."
Sasha felt a pang of frustration. She couldn’t tell if he was lying or not. Was he really oblivious to what had happened with Ashton, or was he playing a deeper game?
"Alright, if you say so," Sasha replied, forcing a smile. "I thought you’d stay in the hospital. You should have called Ashton to be with his girlfriend, Athena."
Sasha still couldn’t shake her lingering doubts. ’Was it really just a coincidence? How did I end up drinking the spiked wine and sleeping with Ashton while Dominique conveniently took Athena to the hospital?’
"Athena told me to leave so I did. I didn’t stay there for long," he lied again.
"Alright! Eat up before it gets cold," she said, trying to sound cheerful. "I made your favorite."
Dominique stopped working on his laptop and rose from his executive chair. He joined Sasha on the couch.
As Dominique started eating, Sasha observed him carefully. Her mind raced with possibilities. She needed to figure out what Dominique knew without tipping him off. And she needed to deal with the situation with Ashton before it spiraled out of control.
"I was thinking," she began casually, "maybe we should take a short trip this weekend. Just the two of us. It’s been a while since we had some quality time together."
Sasha didn’t want to give up. If her first plan got ruined, she needed to try again.
Dominique looked up, considering her suggestion. "I’m sorry, Sasha. But I can’t. I have hectic schedules this week."
"But Dom. It’s weekend. It’s your rest day," She insisted.
Dominique fell silent for a moment. ’I already promised Aaron. I will hang out with him together with Athena.’
"I have a business meeting," he said as an alibi.
"Huh? Who is your client? Can’t you reschedule that on weekdays?" Sasha felt annoyed. She wanted to spend quality time with Dominique. But she felt like Dominique just wanted to avoid her.
"I can’t. This meeting is very important." Dominique said with finality.
"Alright. How about the next weekend?" Sasha tried her luck once again. She needed to convince Dominique.
"Okay. I will try," Dominique replied.
"Don’t try. Free your schedule next weekend. Please..." Sasha begged him.
Dominique could only sigh in defeat. "Fine. I’ll do that."
Sasha’s heart lifted, her eyes sparkling with excitement. If she could get Dominique away for a few days, she could better plan her next move. "Perfect. I’ll start making arrangements."
"Thank you so much, babe!" Sasha exclaimed, immediately pouncing on him with a hug.
Dominique gently but firmly pushed her away. "Sasha, behave. We are in my office."
Sasha’s face turned grim at his words. She could feel Dominique slipping further and further away from her with each passing day. It was as if Dominique built an invisible barrier between them, keeping her from reaching him.
As she stepped back, she tried to mask her hurt with a forced smile. "There is nothing wrong with hugging you. I’m your wife. We must let people know that we are happily married. Have you forgotten about that?" she said, her voice tinged with a mix of sadness and frustration.
Dominique sighed, softening his tone slightly. "I understand, Sasha. But we need to keep things professional here." He didn’t want to argue anymore.
As Dominique returned to his work, Sasha left the office, her heart heavy with the uncertainty of what the future would bring. She knew that whatever happened, she had to find a way to bridge the gap between them before it was too late.
’There’s no way Dominique is cheating on me, right? But who is the woman who sent those provocative sex toys to his office using my name? I still haven’t figured that out,’ Sasha thought, her mind swirling with doubt and confusion.
Then the memories of the previous nights popped up in her mind. She recalled how Dominique reacted when Athena was in pain.
’Don’t tell me... Dominique is attracted to Athena? Why is he so worried about her? I’ve never seen him react that way towards me,’ Sasha thought, her heart sinking as she recalled Dominique’s unusual concern for Athena.
Sasha took a deep breath and shook her head. ’No, I shouldn’t worry about that. As long as Athena isn’t showing any interest in my husband. She likes Ashton, and it should stay that way,’ she reassured herself.
