Chapter 156: Enzo’s Revelation

"Huh? What made you think that our fath–"

Athena didn’t finish her sentence because Lanny pinched her leg. She almost said ’our father’, a slip of the tongue. Fortunately, Lanny reminded her.

"Who gave you that idea?" Athena questioned Enzo.

Enzo hesitated, contemplating whether he should tell them what he heard from Dominique or not.

"Dominique told me that my father killed his family, that’s why he devised a revenge plan against our family."

"Huh? Is that true?" Lanny exclaimed in disbelief.

Athena fell silent for a moment, trying to process Enzo’s words.

’Killing his family? No. I don’t believe this. Though our father is strict, he won’t kill anyone. Our father is not evil. He might be mistaken about this. Our father would never do that.’ Athena refused to believe it.

But part of her was wondering if there was truth in it.

’Is this really the reason for betraying me? For acquiring the company? Is his resentment toward our family rooted in this?’ Athena was having conflicting thoughts about it.

"I’m certain... this might be a misunderstanding. Your father would never do that. And for what reason?" Athena defended her father, believing that Albert Williams was not a murderer.

"Don’t believe his lies and excuses!" Lanny also butted in, supporting Athena’s claim.

"Does he have proof? He is just making up a story to confuse you," she added.

Athena bobbed her head as well. "Yeah. I’m thinking the same. He is just making excuses, justifying his evil actions. Don’t listen to him."

Before returning to York City, she hardened her resolve– she would no longer believe Dominique’s lie. She would never let him manipulate her feelings again.

Enzo could only nod. There was something he wasn’t telling the ladies. What happened to Dominique’s sister and mother was very sensitive.

If Dominique’s story was true, then his father was not only a murderer but also a rap*st. How could he and Sabrina accept it?

"Okay. I won’t believe it. But can you describe what kind of person my father was?" Enzo asked the two ladies.

"He is a good father. He disciplined you and Sabrina well. He was a little bit controlling but he was so protective of you and Sabrina." Athena said, reminiscing about the past. She started to miss her father.

"Really? I feel so relieved to hear that. I will no longer doubt my father’s kindness." Enzo smiled at them.

"Tell us more. What did Dominique say to you?" Athena was curious. She wanted to hear more.

"He said my father stole the project proposal from his father. He also blackmailed him to acquire his entire company." Enzo informed them.

"What kind of proposal?" Lanny narrowed her eyes. "Killing someone for just a mere proposal is so unreasonable. He is truly unbelievable." Lanny continued to ridicule Dominique in her mind.

"Did he tell you the reason why he revealed those things to you? For what reason?" Athena was dying to hear Enzo’s answer.

"Because of Sabrina. He regretted everything. He told me that he loved my sister for real. But because of his resentment toward our father, Dominique couldn’t let go of his revenge. He wanted to make amends for what he did to my sister. He blamed himself for her death."

Athena was at a loss for words when she heard that.

’Loved me for real? That’s a ridiculous joke. He was merciless when he ordered Sasha, forcing me to get rid of our unborn child.’

Meanwhile, Lanny watched Athena, observing her reaction.

She leaned closer to Athena and whispered, "Don’t waver, Sis. Dominique is not worth it."

Athena understood Lanny. She agreed to Lanny’s last remarks.

"I know. I came here for revenge, nothing more." Athena murmured with conviction, reminding herself.

"By the way, we cremated someone else’s remains. Dominique thought it was my sister’s corpse. We scattered her ashes in the ocean."

Lanny and Athena exchanged meaningful glances with one another.

"You played along with him. I’m glad you didn’t reveal that your sister is alive. Who knows Dominique is just trying to act pitifully to gain your trust so that he could get information from you regarding your sister." Lanny expressed her assumption.

But Enzo shook his head. "I don’t think so. It looks like he is convinced that my sister is dead, along with their unborn child. He looked devastated when he mentioned his child."

Athena and Lanny were taken aback when they heard that.

"What a hypocrite?! Pretentious guy! A liar!" Lanny burst out. "As far as I know he was the one who asked Sabrina to abort their child. And now he was regretting it?! Oh maybe, this is part of his karma."

"Sasha and Dominique couldn’t bear a child! Because of that, he realized something. It’s not because of guilt, he regretted forcing Sabrina to abort their child since Sasha couldn’t get pregnant!" Lanny spoke spontaneously, lashing out. She was the one reacting on Athena’s behalf.

Enzo frowned when he heard that. "Dominique didn’t mention it. I don’t know if he is lying or not. But I have to admit that I felt Dominique’s sincerity when he apologized to me. Prior to our meeting, he even kneeled in front of me. We met at Oliver and Melody’s engagement party."

"He approached you at that time," Athena blurted out in disbelief.

Enzo nodded in response. "Yes. He was the one who requested to see me. I was supposed to avoid him."

"Don’t talk with him alone. DON’T TRUST Him!" Lanny emphasized. She was still biased against Dominique.

"Athena!" They were still in the middle of their serious discussion when Vladimir suddenly showed up from behind, calling Athena’s name.

Without saying a word, Vladimir sprinted in their direction. As he reached Athena’s spot, he grabbed her hand.

"Athena, can we talk? Is it true? Are you dating Ashton Davis?" Vladimir directly asked Athena, not minding Enzo and Lanny’s presence. Vladimir looked upset and jealous.

Enzo and Lanny could only watch Vladimir and Athena in silence. Lanny didn’t want to interrupt the two so she signaled Enzo to leave his chair and follow her. Enzo had no choice but to comply.

When Lanny and Enzo disappeared, Vladimir threw another question.

"Is this part of your revenge?"
