Chapter 154: Business Deal

In the conference room, everyone felt tense except for Dominique. They were having their monthly update meeting with the different departments.

Dominique sat at the head of the long table, his expression a storm cloud of displeasure. His sharp and critical eyes darted from one staff member to another as they nervously fidgeted with their papers and laptops.

Dominique looked grumpy today, intimidating his staff. He already reprimanded five directors, finding faults and discrepancies with their reports.

"Is this the best you can do?" Dominique’s icy voice cut through the silence. He slapped a report down on the surface of the table.

Everyone jolted from the sound and impact. They could only shut their mouths and averted their gazes, not looking at him in the eyes.

"These figures are completely unacceptable. We’re weeks behind schedule. Have you contacted Mr. Ashton Davis? What is the cause of the delay in the construction services of his company?!" Dominique mentioned Ashton’s name in his stern cold voice.

The team members exchanged uneasy glances. They had a joint construction project with Ashton’s company. They thought Dominique wouldn’t mind the setbacks since Ashton was his best friend.

Surprisingly, Dominique put more emphasis on this issue today.

’Are the two best friends having an argument?’ The staff members mused to themselves.

"Sir, we’ve had some unexpected setbacks, but we’re working overtime together with Mr. Davis–"

"Unexpected setbacks?" Dominique interrupted the project manager, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Their president seems so relaxed lately. He even has time to date. But he didn’t have time to fix these delays."

Everyone: "..."

"Send an urgent message to Mr. Davis. Summon him to my office today!" Dominique commanded his secretary.

Everyone was puzzled as to why Dominique was targeting his best friend. He even mentioned Ashton’s dating activity. Little did they know, the reason why Dominique’s anger was directed at Ashton was simply because he hadn’t slept last night just thinking about Athena’s date with his best friend.

He was still jealous because Athena left the mansion together with Ashton. His wild imagination didn’t make him sleep.

As the meeting continued, Dominique’s mood seemed to darken with each passing minute. The air inside the conference hall was thick with tension, and the pressure was almost unbearable.

Relief washed over the team when they heard the words "Meeting adjourned!". Dominique left the conference hall with a dark expression on his face.

His secretary immediately called Ashton’s secretary informing her that her Boss wanted to talk to Ashton today.

Dominique had just arrived at his office when he saw an unexpected guest. A guy in his black suit was leisurely sitting on the sofa. A deep frown resurfaced on his forehead when he recognized the man.

’He is the mysterious bidder who offered three hundred million US dollars during the Circle Event. This guy was also eyeing Athena at that time.’ Dominique remembered Vladimir because he considered him as his competitor during the bidding process.

Unknown to Dominique, this was not the second time he had seen Vladimir. He also saw Athena talking to Vladimir before when Vladimir dropped her home. But since it was a little bit dark, Dominique didn’t see Vladimir’s face clearly.

"Who are you?" Dominique asked Vladimir in his indifferent tone.

Vladimir didn’t let Dominique intimidate him. He rose from his seat, straightening his back and extending his right hand.

"I’m Mr. V. I’m here to apologize personally for not being able to meet you yesterday. I know you’d cleared your schedule just to see me. I’ve heard from my assistant that you got upset, Mr. Smith."

Vladimir gazed at Dominique intently, hiding the anger and disgust in his eyes. He scanned Dominique from head to toe.

’So this is the stupid jerk who hurt my Athena. Her scumbag ex-husband. I’m glad she divorced him already.’ Vladimir’s lips curled up at that thought.

After a moment, Dominique exhaled slowly, his chilly demeanor toned down a little bit. ’So he is the investor who I was supposed to meet yesterday.’

He accepted Vladimir’s hand, shaking it.

"Please sit down, Mr. V. I believe you already know who I am so I don’t have to reintroduce my name." Dominique sat on the opposite side of Vladimir’s chair.

"So you are here to continue our business deal?" Dominique asked him.

"Yes. I am. I want to invest in your company. Five hundred million US dollars," Vladimir declared meaningfully. He could still vividly remember that Dominique won Athena’s bid with this amount.

Dominique fell silent for a moment.

"Why did you choose my company?" Dominique was a little bit suspicious of this man. His gut feeling told him not to trust this guy completely.

"Because I found it interesting. I’ve been into different businesses and your company caught my attention. Your company is handling two different services and products– the construction services and the manufacturing of high technology equipment. Your company is on the top list of major companies in York City." Vladimir reasoned out.

"I want you to develop a certain product... a human microchip. You can use my money for this project," Vladimir offered him a business deal.

"A human microchip? Why do you want this? For what purpose?" Dominique asked Vladimir, intrigued.

"For spying and tracking evil people," Vladimir responded promptly, not denying his purpose.

Aside from meeting Athena’s ex-husband, he also approached Dominique because this guy had an interesting technology that would benefit his mafia organization.

Dominique remained quiet. He could sense that the guy before him was a dangerous person. But he wasn’t afraid or intimidated by him. Instead, he became more curious about Vladimir and his real motive.

"Five hundred million is not enough for this project."

"I can give you more money. This five hundred million is allotted only for three samples of human microchips. I want to test if your product is reliable and effective." Vladimir challenged him.

Dominique and Vladimir were still in the middle of their negotiation when Ashton barged into the office, thinking Dominique was just alone.

"Hey Bro! Why are you blaming me for the delays in the construction? My dating life has nothing to do with it?! It’s my personal life outside work! Were you the one spreading rumors about my date with Athena?"

Both Vladimir and Dominique frowned at the mention of Athena’s name.

"Athena... Athena who?" Vladimir asked Ashton.
