Chapter 138: Reason for Betrayal

[ At Goddess Elixir Cafe... ]

Enzo had been serving the customers when Alice arrived to see him.

"Babe!" Alice’s voice resounded from the entrance of the Cafe.

A radiant smile flashed across Enzo’s face upon seeing her. Without further ado, he ran in her direction. Upon reaching her spot, Enzo pulled her into a warm hug.

"You’re here!" Enzo tightened his grip on her body. "I’ve missed you."

Alice could only hug him back and replied, "I miss you too."

"How have you been, my Love? I hope the journey wasn’t too tiresome." Enzo broke the hug to see her face.

"It was fine. I’m energized now that I see you." Alice smiled tenderly, her eyes sparkling with warmth.

"Please come in. I’ll just inform our manager that I’m stepping out for a bit." Enzo guided her inside the cafe, his hand gently resting on her lower back.

As they walked in, one of Enzo’s colleagues looked up and grinned. "Enzo, go ahead and entertain your visitor. We’ve got your shift covered. Don’t worry about a thing."

Enzo flashed a grateful smile. "Thanks, guys. I owe you one." He turned back to Alice, his expression softening. "I bet you are hungry from that long journey. You should eat first. Wait, I’ll be right back."

Alice nodded, glancing around the cozy cafe. Enzo quickly made his way to the manager’s office. Moments later, he returned, leading Alice to a quiet corner by the window.

"Here, this should be perfect," Enzo said, pulling out a chair for her. "What do you want to eat? The pastries here are amazing. Here, check the menu list."

Alice settled into the chair. "Surprise me," she replied with a playful smile. "I trust your taste."

Enzo chuckled, nodding. "Alright, give me a minute." He headed to the counter, leaving Alice to soak in the atmosphere and watch the bustling cafe around her.

’Hmm, so this Cafe is owned by Lanny’s brother,’ she thought to herself.

As she waited, Alice couldn’t help but think about her mission. She needed to gather more information about Lanny and Athena.

"My Boss is right. I wonder who among them told Enzo about his dispute with my Boss. I don’t want Enzo to hate him... after all, my Boss was the one who saved him. He protected Enzo all these years."

It did not take long before Enzo returned, holding a tray of food. He served a plate of pasta along with coffee mocha and the best-selling blueberry cheesecake.

"Go ahead and eat." Enzo urged her.

"Are you not going to eat?" Alice asked.

"Nope. I’m full. I will just watch you." Enzo placed his chin over his palms, staring at her.

Alice could only shake her head helplessly.

"By the way, Enzo... don’t you want to find a very suitable job for you? Don’t just settle yourself being a waiter here. How about office work?" Alice started to open up a conversation about finding a new job.

Dominique would offer Enzo a job so she wanted to make sure Enzo would accept the job.

"There’s nothing wrong with my current job, Love. My coworkers are very kind and generous. Besides, even though I was the CEO of a big company, that’s all in the past now. I can’t remember anything from those days. I don’t think anyone would hire me given my amnesia. I feel like I’ve forgotten my skills too."

Alice took a deep sigh. "But you can always try and learn something new. Who knows... if you expose yourself to the same environment you were working in the past, your memories might come back." She continued to convince him.

Enzo nodded in agreement. "You’re right. I’ll consider that. But for now, I’ll keep working here while I look for a job in a company. Our priority is to settle down in our new apartment first."

"Good!" Alice was satisfied with his response. She began eating her food.

As Enzo watched her, his phone suddenly vibrated. He picked it up only to find Dominique’s message.

[ Are you free now? Let’s meet. I’ll bring you to your sister’s remains. ]

Enzo frowned upon reading Dominique’s text message. ’It feels so weird reading the words ’sister’s remains’. Sabrina is still alive. But I have to play along with this so that Dominique will never learn she is alive.’

He simply typed a message in response to Dominique’s invitation.

[ I’m available now. I can meet you. But I have to bring my girlfriend with me. Is it okay with you? ]

Dominique was aware that Enzo was referring to Alice. He met her earlier.

[ I’m fine with that. But after deciding what we will do to Sabrina’s remains, I have something to tell you. Can I talk to you in private... without your girlfriend? ]

[ Sure. Let’s do that. ]

When Alice was done eating her food, Enzo informed her that they had to go somewhere. Although Alice already knew whom he was meeting today, she stayed quiet, feigning ignorance.

Twenty minutes later, they arrived at a private hospital where Dominique was waiting for them in front of the morgue.

"What are your plans for her remains?" Dominique asked Enzo.

"I want my sister to be free," Enzo replied. "So I won’t bury her. Let’s cremate her, and I’ll scatter her ashes in the ocean."

Dominique didn’t oppose Enzo’s decision. Besides, he had the right to do this. He was Sabrina’s brother.

After getting Enzo’s response, Dominique gave his go signal to cremate Sabrina’s remains. Enzo didn’t cry nor show any emotions as they waited. After all, the one they were cremating was fake. It’s not Sabrina’s corpse.

On the other hand, Dominique thought it was just a natural reaction of Enzo since he couldn’t remember anything.

When the process was done, the three of them drove to the nearest ocean. Enzo and Dominique went together to scatter the ashes while Alice stayed in the car. She gave them privacy to talk.

"Now, tell me," Enzo demanded, still holding the urn of fake Sabrina’s ashes. "Why did you betray my sister? My family?"

Dominique cast a long, contemplative look at the ocean, the waves crashing against the shore in a rhythmic dance.

"It stems from my deep-seated resentment toward your father. I devised this revenge plot against Alberto Williams... the man responsible for the death of my family."

Enzo was rendered speechless when he heard that. ’What? My father killed Dominique’s family?! How come? And why?’
