Chapter 137: Breaking Off the Engagement

Chapter 137: Breaking Off the Engagement

[ At Lanny’s Condo Unit... ]

"Why are you so quiet? Is there something wrong?" Athena asked.

She sat down next to Lanny as they consumed their coffee.

"Enzo is moving out today. He is done transferring his stuff to the new apartment." Lanny was feeling down.

Athena just let out a soft giggle. "So you are sad because of that."

"No. It’s not that. Actually, I feel guilty. Something happened between Enzo and me last night. He was drunk and I took advantage of that. I feel so bad for Alice..." Lanny voiced her concern.

Athena was taken aback for a moment. She didn’t want to blame Lanny. But she had to admit that what they did could already be considered ’Cheating’.

"Yeah, you are right. This is unfair to Alice. But don’t feel bad. The most important thing is you’ve realized your mistake. Don’t do that again, okay? Enzo must be confused because he doesn’t remember you."

Lanny took a deep sigh as she leaned her head on Athena’s shoulder.

"I’m sorry, Athena. I know how you’ve suffered after learning about the betrayal of Dominique. I don’t want Alice to feel the same just because of my selfishness. Promise... after today, I will no longer bother Enzo."

"Yeah, You should behave now. Dmitri is coming. I’ve just received a message from our father." Vladimir suddenly appeared from behind.

"V!" Athena was surprised to see Vladimir today.

Vladimir put on a gentle smile when he gazed at Athena. He still couldn’t forget their sweet moment last night in the VIP Booth ’If only I could just hug her forever...’

"What’s up, Bro? Did our father inform you of the exact date and time of Dmitri’s arrival?" Lanny asked him curiously.

"Who is Dmitri?" Athena darted her gaze back and forth between Lanny and Vladimir.

"The eldest son of the De Luca Family. He is Lanny’s future husband," Vladimir replied.

Athena immediately turned in Lanny’s direction. "You are going to marry him?"

Lanny bobbed her head and replied nonchalantly, "Yes. I have no choice. This is for my brother’s happiness."

Both Vladimir and Athena frowned in confusion.

"What does this have to do with my happiness?" Vladimir asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Because if I don’t marry Dmitri De Luca, our father will force my brother to marry Freya De Luca, Dmitri’s youngest sister," Lanny explained.

Vladimir shot a piercing glare at Lanny, silently urging her to stop talking. She wasn’t supposed to mention Freya De Luca to Athena.

After giving his sister a stern look, Vladimir turned back to Athena. He shook his head slightly as if telling her that she shouldn’t take Lanny’s words seriously.

Athena responded with a faint smile, her eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and uncertainty.

"By the way, I am here to relay a piece of bad news," Vladimir decided to change the topic.

"Huh? Bad news?" Lanny exclaimed.

On the other hand, Athena glanced at Vladimir worriedly. "What is it, V?"

"Our witness, Allan. He died. He is found dead in his apartment today."

Athena and Lanny were both surprised upon hearing that.

"Is that true? How did it happen?" Lanny asked again.

She couldn’t believe it. She talked to Allan last night. She thanked him for cooperating with them. She even promised him to give him a bonus.

"Is there a foul play?" Athena had a doubt.

"The authorities are still investigating his death. There were no signs of forced entry, and they suspect it might have been a heart attack. We’ll have more information once the autopsy report is released."

Athena and Lanny looked disheartened after hearing this news.

"Someone died. I don’t believe that this is just a coincidence. They killed him!" Athena said with certainty. She clenched her fists, her eyes set ablaze.

"This is my fault. I didn’t see this coming. I should have assigned a bodyguard to ensure Allan’s safety. It’s my negligence. I was the one who convinced him to testify against Melody," Lanny said, blaming herself.

"Don’t worry. I’ll get to the bottom of this," Vladimir reassured her.

[ At Williams Family Mansion... ]

"Dad! Thanks a lot. I really thought I was going to spend several nights in the prison cell." Melody hugged her father.

Alfonso used his influence to bail her out.

"Don’t rejoice just yet. We haven’t clear your name. We are going to release a statement regarding this issue. And I have to talk to Athena and her manager." Alfonso was still upset and disappointed.

"Honey, Let me talk to them." Meona butted in.

"You should handle the Jones Family. That’s your priority. We need to give them a proper explanation, otherwise, they might change their mind regarding the engagement of Oliver and Melody."

Meona volunteered to talk to Athena and Lanny because she had a hidden agenda. She wanted to meet the two bitches who bullied her beloved daughter.

"Okay. You have a point. I should talk to Oscar and reassure him that our daughter is innocent."

They were just talking about the Jones Family when the butler approached them.

"Master, you have a visitor. Mr. Oscar Jones is here."

"Escort him in!" Alfonso promptly responded. "Tell our Chef to prepare a lavish meal!" Alfonso commanded the maid.

A few seconds later, Oscar Jones entered the mansion. Meonah and Alfonso greeted him warmly. As for Melody, she didn’t join them because she was still embarrassed to face the Jones Family after what happened last night.

Oscar smiled as he walked in, looking around the opulent interior of the mansion.

Alfonso stepped forward, extending a hand in welcome. "Oscar, you should have informed me ahead of time that you were coming. I was planning to visit you today as well. Please make yourself comfortable."

He guided Oscar to the plush couch in the center of the living room, motioning for him to sit. "What brought you here, my friend?"

As Oscar settled into the couch, Alfonso sat beside him, while Meonah took a seat across from them, ensuring they had his full attention.

"We have much to discuss, Alfonso, regarding the situation that unfolded the previous night."

Alfonso’s expression grew serious. "Yes. It’s quite a predicament we find ourselves in. But you don’t have to worry about it. I’m in the middle of clearing my daughter’s name. She is just being framed up."

Oscar leaned forward, his demeanor shifting to one of concern. "Indeed. You need to address it carefully."

Oscar paused for a moment, carefully considering how to deliver the news. Alfonso was a good friend, but when it came to choosing a wife for his son, Oliver, he needed to be wise.

Despite the possibility of Melody’s innocence, the damage from the scandal had already been done. The Jones Family couldn’t overlook this incident. Furthermore, Oliver finally expressed his objection to this arranged marriage.

"I’m here to relay the decision of our family regarding the incident. Alfonso, you are my friend, and it will never change. But I regret to inform you that the Jones Family has decided to break off the engagement between Oliver and Melody."

Meonah and Alfonso were stupefied after hearing Oscar’s statement. This was what Alfonso was afraid of.

’No! This can’t be! My plan will be ruined!’
