His Mistress is His Ex-Wife
Chapter 136: One-Time Pleasure

Chapter 136: One-Time Pleasure

The next morning...

Enzo woke up with a throbbing headache. He rubbed his temples and sat up for a moment. He looked around his bed and memories of last night kept flooding in his mind.

"Damn! What I have done..." Enzo mumbled, covering his face.

He remembered everything– the things that happened in the V Club and the passionate moment with Lanny the previous night.

In a flash, Enzo jumped off the bed and ran out to see Lanny. She was no longer in his bed the moment he opened his eyes, yet her sweet scent still lingered in his room.

Bam!

The sound of the door being slammed resounded in the house.

"Lanny!" He called out.

She was cooking breakfast when she heard Enzo’s voice. Turning around, she saw his worried and guilty expression.

"I’m so sorry about last night—"

"Enzo, stop!" Lanny quickly cut him off.

Enzo wrinkled his brows as he looked at her in puzzlement.

"Don’t apologize to me. Let’s just forget what happened. Consider it a one-night stand, nothing more. Besides, Alice is coming back today. You should focus on her." She spoke spontaneously, not allowing Enzo to interrupt her.

"Oh, and don’t worry. I’m used to sleeping with guys for one-time pleasure. Don’t take it to heart. You don’t have to be responsible for that. It means nothing to me," she reassured him with a smile.

Enzo didn’t know why but his heart constricted when he heard those words coming from her mouth. She sounded like she didn’t care about what happened last night.

’Is she always like this... to every man she slept with? Why do I feel like I am the one at a disadvantage even though I am the man here? Is this how it feels to be dumped by her?’

Enzo couldn’t hide the hint of disappointment on his face. But Lanny couldn’t see it since she turned her attention back to the food she was cooking.

His eyes lingered on her, watching the way she moved around the kitchen with ease.

"Is that really how you feel?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

He didn’t know why her casual dismissal stung so much. Was it because her words hit his ego and pride as a man?

Meanwhile, Lanny paused, her hand hovering over the frying pan. She took a deep breath before turning to face him, her expression nonchalant.

"Yes, Enzo. It was just a one-time thing. Let’s not make it more complicated than it needs to be. I promise... Alice will never learn about this."

Enzo’s jaw tightened as he struggled to accept her words. "But for me, it’s not just a one-time thing... and I know... I shouldn’t have crossed the boundary. I was the one who forced you that night... I should be responsible for that..."

Lanny’s eyes widened slightly, but she quickly masked her surprise. She forced a smile, though it didn’t reach her eyes. "Enzo, you have Alice. She’s the one you should be focusing on. You were drunk last night. You were not in your clear mind so I understand. I don’t blame you."

Enzo stared at her for a long moment, frustration evident in his eyes and his heart aching with disappointment. "Fine. I get it. I’m sorry for bothering you."

With that, he turned and left the kitchen, leaving Lanny alone with lingering thoughts about what had transpired to Enzo and her last night.

"I’m sorry, Enzo. I have to push you away. Just like what I said... I hate commitment. I am not a wife-material. I just realized that Alice is better than me. You can build a family with her– with a simple yet happy life."

"My world is dangerous... I’m part of a Mafia Organization." Lanny sighed, turning off the stove and leaning against the counter.

"I should have been the one to keep our boundaries intact," she mumbled, placing her palm on her flat stomach and rubbing it absentmindedly. The wonderful sensation of last night’s passion still lingered on her mind.

[ At Starlight Group... ]

After arriving in York City, Alice headed straight to Starlight Group to see Dominique. She had an important matter to discuss with her boss before meeting Enzo later that day.

"Sir, I’m back," she announced as she entered Dominique’s office.

Dominique nodded, motioning for her to sit down. "Welcome back, Alice. I want to commend you for finding Sabrina’s doctor. You work efficiently. I can truly rely on you."

"Thank you, Sir. I just did my job," Alice responded, feeling a surge of happiness from his praise. She held high respect for this guy.

Dominique leaned forward, his expression serious. "I summoned you here for another important task."

Alice looked at him with intrigue. "I understand, Boss. Is this mission still related to Enzo Williams?"

Dominique nodded. "Yes. I want you to continue staying by his side and keep him safe. The Williams Family is now aware that Enzo has returned here."

"Sir... do you still suspect the Williams? Are they the ones responsible for Enzo’s accident five years ago?" Alice asked him.

"Yes. I suspect one of them. However, I haven’t been able to find any clues or evidence linking them to Enzo’s accident. The true culprit remains hidden in the shadows. We have to be more careful when dealing with our unknown enemies."

"Sir... I think you also need to be careful. If the Williams Family has the capability to hurt Enzo, they can also target you anytime. Alfonso betrayed his own brother... so he could also stab you in the back."

Alice voiced her concern for Dominique. Her eyes fell on his injured arm. Dominique was still wearing an arm sling.

"Please summon Captain Levi back. He can keep you safe all the time," she added.

"Levi is returning here," Dominique replied.

He pulled his right-hand man out because Dominique was now convinced that Sabrina was dead, and therefore, Aaron couldn’t be his son.

Alice heaved a sigh of relief when she heard that. She didn’t want to see Dominique getting injured.

"Sir, can I check your injury?"

Dominique shook his head. "No need. I’m fine now. I’m going to remove this arm sling tomorrow."

"Okay, Sir." There was a hint of disappointment in her eyes.

"Alice, aside from keeping Enzo safe, I need you to keep an eye on him and the individuals close to him, particularly Lanny and Athena Ivankov. They’ve suddenly appeared from out of nowhere, claiming to be Enzo’s friends, and I remain suspicious of them."

"One of them seems to have knowledge of Enzo’s past and has disclosed it to him. Although his memory hasn’t fully returned, he’s aware of my betrayal against Sabrina and his family."

Alice was taken aback for a moment when she learned about this.

"Got it, Sir. Leave this to me. I will befriend the two of them and gather as much information as possible."

Dominique nodded in response.

"What time are you going to meet Enzo?"

"I’m going to see him after our talk. He is working as a waiter in Goddess Elixir Cafe," Alice informed him.

"Okay. I’ll contact him later. I want to offer him a job here... in my company."

Alice’s eyes lit up when she heard that. If Enzo were to join Dominique’s company, she could use Enzo as a reason to visit the company every day, and she’d have more opportunities to interact with Dominique as well.

"Alright, Sir. I’ll convince him to accept your job offer!"
