Chapter Ninety-Eight – Pervert

Was it weird? Laurel held her face, looking down. Was it weird that she didn’t feel any sorrow even after hearing how her mother had died?

After listening to Sorren, all Laurel could feel was warmth. Warmth that her mother actually had been trying to save her and didn’t abandon her.

As for Sorren’s mother, all Laurel could think about was how aggressive she must be to kill someone in front of her child even if she thought the person tried killing him.

And the reason it was said that it’s a Lycan that killed her mother was probably because it was a Lycan Kingdom’s Luna that killed her.

She stared at Sorren for a while. So his mother was the reason these all started?

Her father’s retaliation and her abandonment, then her father’s maltreatment to her followed by Stefan’s raid and her torment.

Did Stefan know about this yet treated her badly?

"Your mother hated the Liberation squad? Did you know why?" Laurel asked, her back turned against Sorren. For all she knew, the Liberation squad only hated Lycans that did wrong.

Sorren rubbed the horse, absentmindedly. "I have no idea but Liberation squads always viewed Lycans as the enemy. They were created by werewolves anyway."

Did he mean his mother killed her mother because she assumed she wanted to kill her son for being a Lycan? Laurel shook her head, not wanting to overthink.

What had been done, had been done. It had happened and now, both mothers were dead. Fathers too.

"The letter my mother sent was to my father. Not to the liberation squad. I think that’s how he knew what Kingdom to attack. She must have made note of everywhere she visited." Laurel said.

Her mother also wrote letters back home lots of times to let her husband know she was okay. The letter became the only way Laurel could see how her mother thought.

"I guess so." Sorren replied.

There were quiet but with thoughts running.

"So that’s why." Laurel suddenly said. It stopped there.

Sorren frowned. "Should I read your mind for the rest?"

She sighed. "Before you found out I was Stefan’s mate, you weren’t very bad to me. You must’ve figured out who I was and was filled with pity and guilt."

Guilt? Sorren scoffed but said nothing.

Laurel would’ve smiled at such situations, seeing Sorren actually showing an emotion, a vulnerable one but still, it wasn’t fun being at the receiving end of it.

"I’d go on a short walk. I’d be returning with breakfast from the kitchen." She said, moving out.

Sorren gave no reply.

Laurel tapped the charm by her side, forcing a smile. No matter what, she had to keep up a smile.

Her weakness as a child was what led to her mother’s death. If she kept being weak, more could die before her. She couldn’t risk that happening.

Her path led her back to the inn she dropped by before. Her mind went to the previous day, when she tried to take the werewolfess back home, someone was with her.

"Delta Zara." Laurel said her name as she remembered.

But then she would rather avoided the officials of High Moon Kingdom, many of them were a whole other level.

After strolling a bit, Laurel found the flower shop, it reminded her of Sorren’s story and she sighed. Flowers would have a new meaning for her now.

"To think that idiot had always been plant obsessed." Laurel rubbed her head. "Well, now I’ve gotten the reward for coming to this place. I’d like to leave already."

Someone bumped into her. Laurel moved aside so the person and their cart could pass but they stayed behind her. She turned but was immediately pushed into an alley.

"What are you doing?" she yelled.

It was a masked man but she knew it was probably a young Lycan who she could take in a fight.

He blocked the entrance with his cart, sack bags towering on each other in the open cart. He dragged his masks off and a mischievous grin spread across his face.

Laurel was sure she hadn’t see him before, her eyes had never laid on someone that ugly.

She backed away. The alley wasn’t spacious, she could barely raise her two hands sideways. "What do you want?"

The man snickered. "You’re just a job but as pretty as you are, I doubt my customer would mind me having fun with you a bit. Stay still and I’d be gentle."

Laurel’s face contorted to a frown. Who did he think she was? But then she smirked. "Of course, you have no idea what I’m capable of." That was a full threat.

She had a charm after all, she shouldn’t expect these average Lycans to know what to expect. She’d surprise them. The man rushed to grab her shoulders.

Laurel let him, then grabbed his arms and sent her knee to his stomach. He groaned, falling forward and she sent her knee to welcome his face.

He stumbled back, holding his head, his eyes were beginning to shake. "I wasn’t told you were a warrior."

"Nah, I’m more than that." She pulled his head to hers. "I’m a princess, dumbass. Now tell me, who sent you?" she slammed his head to a wall.

Thankfully, he had blocked the entrance so no one could see them. Laurel let him fall to his knee. "Tell me already!"

The man made weird noises, unwrapping a substance. Instinctively, Laurel kicked the wrap out of his hands but it went to the air. It was powdery so sprayed everywhere.

It stung her nose as it got in. Laurel covered her nose and mouth. Even her eyes were beginning to water. She tried kicking the cart away but it was too heavy.

She couldn’t open her mouth became of the powder.

"Ha-ha! Let’s see how good you’d taste now you’re weak!" the man cackled, getting off the ground. His face was bloody but his eyes remained leery and mischievous.

Did he grow a resistance to whatever the powder was? Laurel wondered. But then, it’d be stupid to make an attack that he wasn’t resistant to.

Sensing her body growing weak, Laurel’s claws shot out and she drove them to the Lycan’s stomach. It wasn’t enough to kill him but he’d not dare touch her.

The man’s eyes rolled back and he fell, Laurel fell with him. She rolled out of his body, breathing heavily.

Would anyone come to save her? Or she’d wake up still lying there? "Elma..."

Her wolf was distant and Laurel knew she couldn’t shift in her situation. Maybe she’d wait till her consciousness returned. Her eyes closed.
