Chapter 95: A murderer

Chapter Ninety-Five – A Murderer

Laurel stared at the sky. This was unlike her. Having two mental breakdowns in one day. Why was her mental fortitude failing her? She left the ground she laid on.

Sorren was gone. That idiot. She hurried to her feet and walked a bit. "He really left me here." She mumbled.

While chasing him, she never really made account of the place she passed so now she was in the middle of the forest, probably crawling with rogues.

She flexed her claws and they shot out. "I’m not having any more breakdowns. If those rogues come, I kill."

Looking around, she found a small lake in the middle of a gathering of trees. She walked to the middle, looking at the strange tree formation.

Quickly, she washed off the blood on her limbs and face. She tore out parts of the dress that was blood stained and left only the parts that covered her body.

It was a long dress anyway, all she did was reshaping and redesigning. A sigh left her as she remembered the events of the day.

It closely reminded her of the day of the raid and she didn’t like it. "That’s why I was breaking down, huh?"

The screams of those Lycans she killed, their low grunts as life left them, she tried to unhear it but it sounded like the screams around her when Stefan attacked.

Was she now like Stefan? A murderer?

"Stefan is a murderer, he killed innocents. What you did was self defense. I can’t believe you’re overthinking this. You won’t kill if they didn’t deserve to die." Elma scolded.

Laurel looked at the place were one of the Lycans cut her. It was healed already. Taking a handful of water, Laurel sprayed over the area. "You’re really cold, Elma."

There was a sound of falling branch. Laurel froze, listening for any movement, her nose caught scent of something familiar coming towards her.

"Our mate! He found us!" Elma squeaked.

Laurel left the lake, rolling her eyes. "Weren’t you being cold now?" she frowned. "Wanna shift? I’m tired to walk."

Elma’s excitement died down. "I don’t want Kai to see my fur’s color. We need to figure out why it’s like that, right?"

Laurel raised a brow, wondering who Kia was, then she remembered. Stefan’s wolf. "Ah, okay then."

The scent came closer, Laurel looked up but immediately took a step back when he was already in front of her. "Goddess, you Lycans have crazy speed—" She stopped. Why did he look at her like that? Worriedly and slight pity.

She huffed. It pleased Elma that he was concerned but Laurel didn’t want him suddenly treating her like a living being after months of locking her up.

"Did you get hurt?" Stefan asked when he was sure the answer would be negative. She had no marks on her.

"They healed." was her answer making his forehead crease. So she did get hurt?

Few seconds ago, he found Sorren rested on a tree looking worn out. Stefan’s guessed he chased rogues and tired out fighting them but he wasn’t with Laurel.

His younger brother then reported him that his mate threw a tantrum because he killed a rogue so he left her alone.

Seeing Laurel’s annoyed face, Stefan assumed her tantrum was over. He didn’t think she was one to throw tantrums. Somehow, he found it adorable.

He nodded. "Hmm. That’s good. Let’s head back to the ball. We won’t stay long before leaving."

She started moving but slowed down, breathing heavily. Laurel looked at her legs. When did they turn to jelly? She could hardly stand straight without feeling like falling.

Did she exert herself too much? Well, all through today, her body and mind had been alert and on edge.

From staying around Lycans and their imposing auras, to meeting the Lycan King with massive bloodlust, to chasing after Sorren and killing rogues.

Not to add that she had a bad sleep from passing the night in the stable. She also fed herself almost to stupor so all her body wanted to do was fall and rest.

"Are you alright?"

Laurel snapped from her thoughts, she glanced at Stefan by her side. "Yes, you can walk ahead. I’d catch up."

The Alpha studied her. She wobbled earlier, did she get tired? "I could carry—" he stopped himself. "Fine. Hurry."

As he left, Laurel glared at his retreating figure. Was he teasing her with that offer? She could have accepted it with how weak she was feeling.

"Elma, give me strength. Let’s not look weak here." She pleaded with her wolf. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Sorren walking towards her with a smirk.

"Elma, I am definitely not looking weak in front of Sorren." Laurel gritted her teeth. "We are shifting!"

"What?" Elma protested but she was forced to control.

"I’d signal the werewolfess to meet me at the courtyard. There’s nothing to do at the meeting anyway. I’m tired." Laurel finalized. "Take me home."

A howl erupted in the forest as Laurel stooped low. The dress slowly ripped as Elma emerged. She was bigger in size than the last time she was free.

Sorren paused his steps stunned at the sight before him. Was she shifting to attack him? And why was her wolf’s color... unique?

Stefan turned back but could only catch the silhouette of a wolf that zapped past him. "Laurel?!" Where she was she going? "She’s going to the ball." A figure ran past him.

Stefan followed his brother. Laurel was going to the ball in her wolf form? That was an obvious giveaway that she was werewolf!

Sorren caught up with the wolf, she was definitely faster in her wolf form. He took in the unusual appearance of the wolf and smiled.

Sensing a Lycan ahead, he hurried, going past Elma.

There was a lady in a red dress, speaking with the scared werewolfess that Laurel had been with.

The lady sensed a Lycan and turned, but the moment she caught a glimpse of Sorren, her eyes rolled back. His hand went to her neck immediately, knocking her out.

Stefan caught up to them, and his eye widened on seeing the lady Sorren held. The one person he was glad he never got to meet.

Elma barked, alerting the werewolfess to jump. The werewolfess hesitated before sensing it was the princess. She jumped on the wolf, holding the charm close.

"Go straight to that courtyard, princess. We’d return later." Sorren said, holding unto the lady in his hands.

Elma yelped then rushed off. With the charm, she knew her scent will be concealed and she just had to maneuver to the courtyard. She could do that. Laurel needed sleep.
