Chapter Ninety-Two – Zeno

An eternity must have passed before Laurel found her voice again. "Elma." She said out loud. "Do you want to take over? I kind of want to black out now."

"Because you killed rogues trying to kill you?" Elma had a mocking tone. It made Laurel frown.

It wasn’t like she was a saint who was against killing. Just that she killed without having the intention to kill.

She had been trying to save herself from pain. Laurel’s eyes went down to her dress, ripped at some parts and stained with blood. Such a mess.

She couldn’t return to the ball like that. She still had to find Sorren. Her eyes darted about her, at the bodies on the ground. She saw the heart, it had stopped moving.

Laurel rubbed her head, exhaling. "Elma, on second thoughts, I’d handle myself." She rose to her feet.

"As you should." Her wolf replied.

Laurel rolled her eyes, leaving the ground. Her eyes went to her bloody hands. This was a day she won’t forget in a hurry. It certainly resembled the day Stefan had attacked.

She stared at her hand, trying to accept that nothing could have been done against what she did. She felt some relief. "Sorren better be okay." She began walking.

As Elma was active, it wasn’t hard to notice the pungent scent of... dying rogues.

Sorren’s scent might be hard to catch in the vast forest but Laurel could definitely see his hand work.

Her breathing got heavy and she would stop to breathe in and out. It was enough blood and splatter of body parts for a day but she knew she was bound to see more.

On observing, she noticed that Sorren typically attacked the neck first. She remembered the rider too. It was a vulnerable place after all.

It made Laurel rub her neck, seeing all the Lycans with slit necks or empty gullets. It was gory but Laurel still looked.

"Sorren!" she hastened her steps when she caught his scent. Was he still fighting? He didn’t seem to be moving.

She sped to the point the scent came from. Immediately, she got there, she felt a hand on her mouth. She blinked, trying to understand.

She caught his scent strongly. Did he sense her and quickly held her from going further? His reacting speed was really fast. She blew on his hand and he released her.

"But be quiet, princess." Sorren said, looking ahead.

Laurel shook her head. The Lycans she lived with were definitely on a different level than the ones she just killed. Even his clothes had no tear, he’d surely not allow it.

She did notice droplets of blood on the helm of his trousers. Blood stain was inevitable with how brutal he killed those Lycans.

She followed his line of sight.

It was the red eyed Lycan she saw him follow. The young man seemed to be speaking with a hawk. Or was he reading a letter the hawk brought?

Laurel would have asked in Sorren’s mind link except she wasn’t connected to it. Then, the young Lycan dispatched the hawk.

Laurel stooped low to see his next actions but she noticed Sorren waltz out from where they hid.

"So tell me, what did they tell you to do?" Sorren came before the shocked Lycan.

Laurel sighed, following him out. What was the use of hiding if they were going to waltz out without discretion? She met the young Lycan’s eyes on her.

"What’s your relationship with that young werewolfess?" The young Lycan asked.

"Speak with more respect. She said she’s the princess to the werewolves at our pack." Sorren glanced at Laurel.

Laurel placed her hand in her chest. "And I am. Princess Laurel, daughter of Late Alpha King Titus of Green Valleys Kingdom. And you?" she asked the Lycan. Since he was curious about her, it was only fair to be curious about him.

"Did you say the werewolves in your pack? You are related to that Stefan, aren’t you?"

Sorren’s eyebrows pinched together. ’That Stefan?’ was a rude way to address his brother and he didn’t want to accept the connection.

"We have werewolves in our pack. We’ve always had." He replied. "So go straight to the point, you are related to this attack, aren’t you?"

The young Lycan suddenly smiled, marching to them. "Yes, and I’m Zeno." He stretched his hand for a shake.

Laurel gazed at his smile before looking away. He looked different when he smiled, his red eyes always made him look scary and mysterious.

Sorren left Zeno’s hand hanging. "I thought you hated handshakes." He referred to Zeno ignoring Stefan’s handshake.

Zeno took his hand down. "I regret that now. I didn’t know much about Alpha Stefan at the time."

Why was he suddenly being friendly with them? Laurel raised her legs to reminded the two tall men that she was still there.

Zeno turned to her and smiled. "Princess Laurel, was it?"

She nodded. "Why did you attack the meeting? I don’t mind but he does." She pointed Sorren.

They had been planning for the meeting for long after all.

"You don’t like Lycans, right?" Sorren asked.

Zeno stepped back, contemplating on what question to answer. "Yes, and witches. Lycans who make distinctions between werewolves and lycans. I hate them. To death."

That confession was a breath of fresh hair for Laurel.

Finally, a Lycan that saw werewolves as equal to Lycans. She felt like putting him in a ring with Asher and watching him win, if he’d win.

"They are few Lycans with this common sense." Laurel stepped away from Sorren, who smirked. "So Zeno, your attack was against Prince Asher?"

"Yes. He is amongst the people I detest." Zeno’s face squeezed. "And recently, he killed my cousin."

Laurel and Sorren looked at each other.

"King Asher is known for experimenting on werewolves. Was your cousin a hybrid then?" Sorren looked from Laurel go Zeno.

The young Lycan shrugged. "His mother was a hybrid. She mated a werewolf to birth him. He’s werewolf."

Sorren’s eyes dimmed. There weren’t many places were werewolves and Lycans lived in peace and mated each other. One place came to his mind.

Also his name was a quick give away.

"Zeno." Sorren called. "This place you come from, it’s Lunaria, isn’t it?"

Laurel’s ears perked up, thinking of where that was.

"It is."

"You are a bred Lycan, aren’t you?"

Zeno turned to Sorren, wearing a deep frown. "Yes, and?"
