Chapter 90: Ambushed

Chapter Ninety – Ambushed

(High Moon Kingdom)

The Lycan Packs Meeting was just a ball were important Lycans dressed fancily to attend. This was Asher’s conclusion as he returned to the detached room.

There were more fun things he could spend his time doing. "Nero, stay out here. No one should come in. I’m experimenting." He placed a finger on his lips.

Nero’s jaw fell. Experimenting? On the day he became King? Couldn’t he just shift it till the day was over?

But Nero didn’t dare say a word. He nodded and bowed. The King hurried into the room and shut himself in.

Nero sighed, leaning on the wall, looking back inside the ball hall. He hadn’t sighted his sister since the ball started.

She was probably back at Snow Top Mountain protecting the lab. The former lab caretaker, Dali, had his ears cut off by Asher before finally being used as a specimen when they ran out of werewolves.

Dali was a werewolf but received limited good treatment because he was the one who taught Asher most of the things he knew about experimentation.

"At least now he’s King, my sister will have less things to do." Nero muttered, walking around. His steps stopped when he felt a strong arm around his neck.

For the split second, Nero experienced tremendous panic.

How did they get there? Who was that? How could they sneak up on him so noiselessly? Was it the assassination on the King? He should tell the King, shouldn’t he? Would he die? Would he never see his sister again?

"Kill him." A voice said.

Nero’s neck was snapped and his body limped to the floor. The one who had spoken, inched close to Nero. His piercing blue eyes peered into the body.

"Surround the King but don’t attack till you get my signal." The man said, before turning to about thirty Lycan rogues, cladded in black robes. "Yes, sir!" they replied.

Meanwhile at the ball, Sorren grew more uncomfortable. What was wrong with the atmosphere of this place? It was almost suffocating. He bent his head on the table.

Stefan noticed and assumed it was boredom. The werewolfess began running her hands through Sorren’s long hair that spread over the table.

Stefan frowned. "He’s very particular about his hair. Let it be." But the werewolfess looked into his eyes but still continued running her hands through it.

The Alpha sighed, looking away. He noticed his mate was bored too, propping her chin with her hand and staring into space. She had stopped eating the snacks before her.

Stefan would’ve asked for them to leave, if not that it would be impolite to leave the meeting without the new King giving a farewell speech.

Also, the rest of the Lycans were having fun, dancing and flirting on the dance floor. It made Stefan have a ridiculous thought of asking Laurel to the dance floor but he knew it would be denied quickly.

While watching the Lycans on the dance floor, Stefan noticed the Alpha of the new pack, Bloody Moon Pack, that registered under High Moon Kingdom as he did.

The Alpha was a bulky Lycan in his early thirties. They were always two others with him. A young man with red eyes and a slender woman wearing a tight leather suit.

They looked like his guards since they weren’t dressed formally for the ball but Stefan sensed that each of them were Alpha ranked so it greatly confused him.

"I’d leave to say hello to that Alpha." He said, getting up.

Laurel’s eyes followed him, quite uninterested at first till she saw who he was going to.

She sat up straight, biting her lips. She totally forgot to tell them about the red eyed Lycan’s suspicious movement.

But then nothing suspicious had happen. Could it all be a misunderstanding? Her eyes tarried on Stefan and the Lycan.

Stefan stretched his hand for a handshake. The Alpha gladly took it. "Alpha Stefan. Nice to meet you too."

The lady on leather suit besides him made a small bow and Stefan bowed in return but the man by the Alpha, looked away, staring into distant space.

The Bloody Moon Alpha noticed and nudged the young man lightly. "Zeno, say hello."

Zeno? Stefan raised a brow. That was a popular name in a faraway country, a powerful country that wasn’t fond of Lycans.

Lycans were more fearful of the kingdom, it was even more powerful and feared than Damancas, a home of Lycan Hunters and Witches.

Why would a Lycan bear such a name? Stefan stretched his hand again. "Nice to meet you, Zeno. I’m Stefan."

The young Lycan glanced at him and Stefan couldn’t help but notice annoyance brewing in his red eyes. Wasn’t this his first time meeting this young Lycan?

"Nice to meet you." The Lycan said, not taking his hand.

His face said otherwise. Stefan turned away from him completely. He engaged the Alpha instead.

Laurel watched as the red eyed Lycan stared daggers into Stefan. She wondered why? Could the Lycan already sense that Stefan was a wicked man?

Laurel shook her head. He must be really introspective. At least, before knowing Stefan’s true colors, someone usually thought he was a really nice person.

That was what Laurel thought till she understood that her mate was far from nice. As her eyes were on him, Laurel immediately felt his red ones on her.

She looked down immediately. She remembered him calling her pretty and her cheeks heated up. How could he have noticed her gaze amongst all the people in the hall!

"Oh really?"

Laurel snapped her head to Sorren. He was looking at her with tired eyes. "What?" She asked, frowning.

The werewolfess looked from the princess to Sorren, sensing a quarrel about to start.

"All that young Lycan did was look at you and you’re all red. I didn’t think you were that easy. He didn’t even smile or anything—"

"W-Who are you calling easy?" Laurel slammed her hand in the table. "A-And we have... we talked before." It wasn’t much of a talk but it was an interaction.

Sorren smirked. "Hmm, right..." his words trailed off as a High Moon Lycan warrior hurried into the hall, shouting at the top of his lungs.

The instrumentalists stopped playing as a commotion started. "Rogues! They are rogues! Everywhere!"

Everywhere became silent as fear engulfed the guests.

"The King had been ambushed! Someone is dead!"
