Chapter 71: Rogues

Chapter Seventy-One – Rogues

The carriage had been quiet.

Thankfully, they’re away from all parts of Green Valleys that were in ruins and passed by neighboring villages close to Damancas.

Laurel leaned towards Sorren’s window only and forgo any sight on Stefan’s window, the less they talk, the better.

Damancas didn’t look like a Kingdom of mysteries like it was nicknamed. Just a beautiful kingdom obsessed with shiny stones, especially diamond and ruby.

"Must be really rich to afford all these." Laurel muttered, staring at the shiny rocks on the walls.

Didn’t they have problems of thieves trying to break out rocks from the wall? Or were their guards stationed there all the time?

"Are you curious about Damancas, Princess?"

Laurel turned to Sorren and made a small nod. "But we don’t need to stop, maybe when we’re coming back—" That wasn’t even her right to decide.

"Hmm. When we are coming back then." Sorren leaned back.

Stefan glanced at the two then at the kingdom. It wouldn’t be very easy waltzing into Damancas. He knew his brother visited many times but he wasn’t sure how he felt being stared at all the time. He was probably used to it.

Damancas had a horrible history of Lycan Killing and supporting experimentation and breeding of Lycans.

It’s also Kingdom to werewolves and witches. Bewitching a Lycan and killing him would be a piece of cake.

Stefan sighed. He’d have to ask Sorren how he worked it out because he was curious about the Kingdom as well.

The carriage was quiet for the next three hours as they passed by forest upon forest till Laurel groaned out of frustration. "We should walk."

"That’s what I said." Stefan agreed, feeling dizzy from sitting at one place. They both glared at Sorren, but he was peacefully asleep. They sighed tiredly.

"Hey, hey, Laurel. You should raise a topic while we are alone with our mate." Elma suggested with a cheery tone.

Laurel glimpsed at Stefan, then looked away, before scoffing loudly. "Not happening, Elma." She told her wolf.

Meanwhile Stefan, noticing her action, wondered if the scoff was directed at him. What had he done?

"Even your presence disgusts our mate now." Kai taunted.

Stefan replied. "Don’t start now."

The carriage bumped a stone, causing it to shake. Stefan noticed his younger brother falling towards Laurel who wasn’t looking.

He caught Sorren before their heads clashed. Laurel’s face heated up at the closeness. Stefan rested him back on the seat but he slid to Stefan’s shoulder and rested there.

The Alpha exhaled. He was like a child when asleep. He noticed Laurel gulping saliva consecutively with reddens face and wondered if Sorren had hit her before he caught him. "You are okay, right—"

"Of course!" Laurel snapped, looking outside.

Why won’t she be? The bastard Sorren didn’t almost steal her first kiss in such an uneventful way!

She would’ve hit him till he awoken if his older brother wasn’t close.

She glared at the criminal but her gaze softened seeing him sleeping peacefully. Like a dead person.

She smirked at her thoughts.

Stefan’s eyes caught it. So she smiled at Sorren but scoffing at him? She didn’t even hide her favorites.

"You aren’t feeling jealous, are you?"

"Kai, just stop." Stefan held Sorren close. The carriage should just reach another pack and they’d alight for a while. At least till Sorren was awake.

"Alpha?" The carriage rider called. "Rogues."

Rogues? In the middle of this nowhere. Laurel frowned, sticking her head out the window, but she was pulled back just before an arrow stabbed her head.

She looked at Stefan who pulled her but he already left through the other window.

She rushed to Sorren whose head fell on the wooden window’s edge but surprisingly, he didn’t awake.

"He’s dead?!" Laurel almost panicked.

Elma nudged her to check on their mate and she dropped Sorren, jumping out of the carriage.

"Wait, young maiden!" the rider called but she was gone.

Laurel stopped as she listened for sounds of struggling or fighting. Why was Elma even making her do this? Surely their mate wouldn’t be killed by some rogues!

"What do you even want me to do when I find him? Join him to fight? I’d be an obstruction!" she yelled at the wolf.

Elma whimpered, mumbling. "I don’t want our mate to be hurt again, after what we did."

The Jade thing? Laurel rolled her eyes. "So it’s guilt, huh? Funny how you feel that for a Lycan who doesn’t feel anything for you."

After those words, Laurel felt her wolf become dormant. She lost her sense of smell again. She sighed. Elma had not always cared for Stefan but recently, she’d been a sack of emotions with things concerning him.

A low growl came in front of her. Laurel glanced at the wolf, snarling at her. At best, warrior ranked.

She smirked. "Hmm, come at me." She flexed her hand and her claws came out. "Or you, infact." She dodged the high kick that came from behind her.

The person rolled away as her attack was dodged. Laurel stared at the girl. Same age as Lisa, at best. Were they attacking travelers for money? "Go away, or I’d kill you."

The girl looked at the wolf and nodded before the two charged at Laurel. The princess seamlessly dodged their attack while contemplating whether the wolf was warrior ranked as she thought or hunter ranked.

"Aha!" Laurel grabbed the girl and flung her to a tree. The girl slammed on it but landed neatly, holding her sides.

"You are lead hunter rank, right?" Laurel asked the wolf that ran back to the girl. "I thought you were warrior but you’re a little too weak for it."

The wolf gave no response as it rubbed its nose on the girl in pains. Laurel looked bored. Where was that Alpha? Hurting a kid wasn’t fun to her.

She remembered the carriage and ran back to it. She was conscious to notice if the rogues would chase her but it seemed the girl passed out on top of the wolf.

Laurel’s steps slowed as she saw a trail of blood from the carriage towards the other end of the forest.

"Sorren?!" she yelled when she saw he wasn’t in. Neither was the rider. Had something happened to them?

She could only follow the blood trail, while hoping Sorren wasn’t killed. Stefan would go mad.
