Chapter 66: Tea

Chapter Sixty-Six – Tea

Stefan felt unsettled on seeing the lady. Wasn’t she a maid in his quarters?! He had little to no care for the maids but for one jumping around with his neighbors, it made him think of sabotage or she being a spy.

"She was trapped in your pack for a while."

Darren’s words made Stefan look away from the girl, and back at him. "Trapped in my pack?"

"Yes, she had visited Green Valleys during the Princess’ birthday ball. To take my land or the princess as promised. That was when you attacked, I suppose."

Stefan calmed down. So the girl wasn’t from Green Valleys, and nearly became collateral damage? Still he was wary. Why didn’t the girl leave all those while?

"You could have told an official." He said to Frida.

Frida resisted the urge to eye roll but she played along, according to Darren’s plans. "I think it was a Beta that captured me, I was too scared to speak to him."

"Then how did you escape?" Sigma frowned. "If a warrior had known you escaped, they could’ve chased and killed you. They’d have thought you were a rogue."

Frida smiled internally. It was time to use the card that Laurel had told her never failed. "I told Prince Sorren. He was the one that let me go afterwards."

Stefan and Stigma became quiet. Surely if it was Sorren she told, that one would just tell her to leave immediately without making sure she was safe.

Also, he wouldn’t even make an account that one of their captives was a servant for their ally. Stefan nodded. "Oh, right. Very well. It’s a good thing you crossed safely."

Frida felt like jumping. It worked!

She bowed and walked away. This was Darren’s plan to make sure that she doesn’t get in trouble for escaping, because, like Laurel, she was the Beta’s daughter and future of Green Valleys Kingdom, if they ever get it back.

"You are quite a fast learner to speak so fluently already."

"Well, I knew a bit back then but I was always ashamed to try, in case I used a wrong word that’d put me to death." Darren joked, earning a short chuckle from the Alpha.

Sigma exhaled, growing bored of their conversation. His tea was yet to arrive. Just then, there was a knock on the already opened door.

A young girl held a tray, heads down. "Tea for the guest."

Darren nodded to her and she walked in. She carefully placed the tray before Sigma and brought the cup out.

"I hope it’s not too sweet?" Sigma asked, looking into the cup. The young girl froze, her breaths becoming heavy.

The Delta looked up when he noticed his question wasn’t answered. The sudden motion made the girl fall back, scampering away. She was shivering.

Darren rushed to her, "Anna, calm down. Calm down." He turned to his guests. "I’m sorry, please excuse us."

There was a little pout on Sigma’s lips as he sipped his tea. Stefan sighed. "You could even drink the tea after what you did?"

"What did I do? Please tell me, I just asked if–"

"Obviously, she’s scared of you! You’re a Delta Lycan and she’s probably an omega werewolf, a victim of war from the pack you raided. Must you really have conversations with everyone?"

Sigma was quiet before dropping the tea.

It made Stefan wonder if he spoiled his appetite. "No, what I mean is..."

"I’d go and apologize now!" Sigma left his seat.

A low grunt left Stefan as he pulled the boy back. Did he even listen to him? He said the girl was scared of him. Going to apologize would only make it worse.

"Just enjoy your tea, or did you lose appetite because of what I said..."

The boy gulped down the whole tea. "Ah, it’s a little sweet but it’s good. Should I ask her for another one?"

He was impossible. Stefan looked away from him. Was this the child that Sorren raised?

He noticed something familiar about the tray that had been used to serve Sigma.

That cook Jessika had one of similar design. His face contorted to a frown. Could the cook be another servant of Darren trapped in his pack? Or was she a spy this time?

Darren returned, looking worried. He hadn’t expected Anna to react that way, despite being an omega wolf.

She was rather calm when they met and he was a Beta wolf. Could it be the guests reminded her of the war? Probably.

"I’m really sorry for what just happened. She’s okay now." He sat down before the guests, he noticed Stefan’s gaze on the tray.

"It’s a popular design. If you like it, I could get one as a gift for you." He offered.

Stefan snapped from his thoughts. The tray was a popular one? Indeed, that could be another reason the cook had it.

Maybe he shouldn’t overthinking and give his ally a benefit of doubt. He wasn’t Sorren who doubted everything, and had backup plans for backup plans.

"No need, it’s popular in my pack too so it caught my attention." Stefan declined politely.

Darren nodded understandably.

The guests rose from their seats. "We’d take our leave now. I hope we didn’t cause trouble at your household."

"Not at all. As I said, the girl will be okay." Darren replied.

"That’s fine, and do know you are invited to pay us a visit as well. I’d like to host you."

"I’d make arrangements for it immediately." Darren said. Perhaps it’d give him a chance to know how the Princess was doing himself.

"Ah, but Alpha, you’re to go to High Moon Kingdom." Sigma reminded. "Should I host him? Yeah, bring that girl along, I’d show you all how to make good tea."

"Oh, so hers wasn’t good enough?" Darren smiled. "I’d let her know then. And I’m really sorry you had to taste it."

Sigma was quiet. That wasn’t what he meant at all.

Stefan pulled him along, hurrying out. The boy was embarrassing. "Thank you again, Darren."

Darren made a small bow, watching them leave. His smile fell. So Alpha was leaving soon?

The surviving warriors of Green Valleys had been looking for a chance when he wasn’t in. Should he tell them this?

Perhaps not yet. He’d need more information from Jessika about who and who were actually leaving.
