Chapter 67: Beauty

Chapter Sixty-Seven – Beauty

Laurel walked with calculated steps, trying to feign fear before the warriors that were walking with her.

She felt good knowing she could take them in a fight if they dared provoke her. But they didn’t know.

They stopped then walked away, leaving her at the entrance of the quarters. She had been summoned to Sorren’s quarters out of the blue.

She wondered what he was doing that he couldn’t just walk out of his place to speak to her, instead of making it look like he was summoning her for something lewd.

There were no other guards at the entrance so she walked into the quarters. There was a huge garden inside. It was hard to miss, inside.

And there were... Laurel’s eyes widened. "Bodies? There are bodies tied to the trees?"

What kind of person could do this! Her eyes darkened when she saw the body of a young girl tied to the tree. Her heartbeat quickened as she saw a semblance to Vista!

Lia never said what had happened to the bodies but Laurel just guessed they were buried.

Hurriedly, she ran to the tree and tore the rope wrapped around the body. The corpse fell, and busted in some parts.

Laurel felt her eyes water. She covered her mouth as the horrid smell got into her throat. What was she even doing? Fighting for an already dead body?

"What are you doing?"

She froze, tightening her hand on the rope she held, she hung her head low, looking down. "P-Prince Sorren?"

Would he punish her for taking the corpse down? This was his garden so he must have tied it there.

She tried to hide her anger because she knew he was surely not someone she could take in a fight.

"You were supposed to come with..." he came before her. "Ah, you aren’t with the flower." He sighed.

He didn’t mind what she did? Laurel felt slightly relieved. She raised her head, trying to explain why she didn’t have the item but her body froze again, on seeing him.

She slowly backed away. Why was she being attacked by despair then beauty within the same time frame?

And it was the most humiliating type a girl could be attacked with. The beauty of a man, not even a woman!

"Did you need the flower for your... lips?" she mumbled. He looked paler than usual, and it had an innocent charm to it. There was a purple hue over his eyelashes and a small gold earring on his left ear.

If Jessika could see him now, Laurel was sure she’d definitely forget about the guard she was fawning over. The princess slapped her face to regain her composure.

"Lips?" Sorren scoffed. "Amateur. I planned to plant it."

Laurel nodded without arguing. She remembered and looked back at the corpse. "Can I bury it later?"

Without looking Sorren replied. "It’s dead, isn’t it?"

A small frown creeped to Laurel lips but she exhaled, letting the frustration out. There were slaves here anyway, she shouldn’t expect compassion from her captors.

She followed him as he walked back inside.

The first room she met had the feel of an earth fairy, at least that’s what Laurel once read in books. It was just plants aesthetics. He must be obsessed with plants.

"You summoned me here." she reminded.

He looked through boxes of shiny objects, which Laurel realized were jewelry on closer look.

Did he call her to help him pick one for him? Definitely not. He slapped the box down then drew out another from a drawer. Laurel yawned. She really didn’t have all day.

"You have all day, right?" he suddenly asked. "I’m quite busy now."

Her fists clenched. "You called me here."

"And you came at a bad time." He slapped another box closed. "Goodness, there’s nothing."

Laurel forced a smile. "What did you want to say? Surely as coordinated as you are, you can talk while rummaging your pretty jewelries."

"Pretty?" Sorren repeated. "You think these are pretty? Amateur." He turned to her.

Laurel stood erect, awaiting whatever punishment, he’d be giving her.

"You won’t dress like this to the meeting, will you?"

Her shoulders slumped. "Oh, moon goddess, it better not be a beauty class you called me here for."

"Why would I care?" Sorren scoffed. "I called you here because you need to break Delta rank before we leave."

Laurel was quiet before slowly shaking her head. So it was punishment after all? "I’m sorry but I can’t be able to break that rank before we leave."

Honesty was the best policy, wasn’t it? So she played the card first. Maybe she miraculously broke Lead Warrior rank, but Delta rank was miles away from that, miles.

"How could you tell that would be my next rank though?" she asked afterwards.

"Because I’m not stupid. So why can’t you break Delta rank? I thought hard on it, and at High Moon Kingdom, I’d need someone to run errands."

And she was who he had in mind? Laurel folded her arms. "I’m sorry, Prince Sorren but you’re expecting too much from me. I’m not like Sigma who’s really strong."

Sorren turned away from her. "I guess I’d have to take Sigma as the third person."

Laurel smiled. He should definitely bring him. But then it occurred to her, the third person? That meant she wouldn’t be coming along? What about the secret of her mother’s death he had promised her?

"I-I can’t break Delta rank, really."

"And I heard you, princess."

Laurel’s eyes darted about looking for the next words to say. "Th-Then, can’t you take me even if I can’t help you like Sigma does?"

"What do I gain from you coming?"

Didn’t he invite her? Laurel looked away. "Well, nothing. But you wanted me to come so I thought..." it was no use.

Since it’s Sorren she was dealing with, he probably had all the counter responses to use on her. "I’d do my best."

"You should. If you visit a kingdom of Lycans with your current rank, you won’t be able to stand anyone."

Laurel smiled. So he was looking out for her? She wiped the expression off. "Then, I’d really do my best!"

Infiltrating High Moon Kingdom could be a way to learn a thing or two about Lycans that could be useful to her later.
