Chapter 62: Attend
Chapter Sixty-Two – Attend
Hate and Stupidity being used on him in one day? Stefan looked up at the heavens for mercy. "So you mean what in essence? Because I don’t want Laurel. My wolf does."
"Hmm." was all Sorren replied with.
"Hmm?" Stefan repeated.
"I’d convince Laurel to come, since you have no problem with it." Sorren left where he sat. "And you can leave Jade with Cade. She’d live if she’s strong."
Stefan left where he sat and turned towards the prison’s entrance. "Tell me, Sorren. By any chance... you didn’t set Jade up just to get her out of the way, did you?"
It could be an accusation, but it could also totally happen. Stefan exhaled. If it’s an accusation then he’d apologize and compensate him somehow.
If it wasn’t, he would feel really disappointed.
"You think highly of me." Sorren stifled in his laughter. "While I won’t hesitate to get Jade out of the way if I please, I wouldn’t really enjoy seeing you boiled alive."
Stefan felt he made it sound worse than it happened. He didn’t see need to apologize for the accusation since it’s something he could do, just that he didn’t. "Alright."
"I’d be leaving then." Sorren said as he walked off.
While heading to his quarters, he found Laurel and the cook, Jessika seemingly playing hide and seek with Cade who walked into his quarters. Did the cook fear him? Because Sorren was sure Laurel didn’t.
After all, the first time meeting her was when she dared to anger the beast in the Beta and he nearly sniffed her out. His brother hasn’t even heard of that yet.
"What are you two doing?"
Jessika and Laurel shrieked, going back. The cook stared at Sorren longer before looking away with blushed cheeks.
"Oh, we’re just... waiting for the Beta to be safely in his quarters before resting. You know, as maids we should make sure the officials are rested before resting..."
Jessika nudged the princess, alerting her that she was rambling again. Laurel zipped her mouth and nodded to the remaining words.
Sorren stared down at her. Just when he was trying to bring out her good sides to his brother, she’s blasting him with her ridiculous side.
"I’d like to speak with your princess alone. Excuse us."
Jessika turned to Laurel before making small bow to Sorren and walking away.
"You are following us to High Moon Kingdom, for the Lycans Pack Meeting."
Laurel’s brain lagged before she replied. "Eh?"
Sorren began walking away. "I know you’re excited so I’d tell you when it’s time."
What the hell was he saying? Wasn’t High Moon Kingdom a Lycan Kingdom? Laurel rushed before him, spreading her hands out to block him from moving.
Her lips her pursed in annoyance. "Prince Sorren, did you notice I’ve been speaking super formally with you lately?"
Sorren looked up. "Ah, right. You even started calling me Prince. I thought it was strange but went along with it."
"Exactly, I’m doing my best to adjust here, as a maid, since that’s the life I’ve been subjected too. I definitely do not want to leave now." Laurel said.
Why should she leave when her presence was a source of joy to the girls and they were a source of joy to her?
And to leave for a Lycans Pack Meeting? There was nothing appealing there waiting for her, but sure death.
She looked at him, to be sure if he was getting her point but she met a bored expression on his usual straight face. "Am I supposed to pity your life or...?"
"It’s not about pity." she retorted. "It’s about letting me live here. I like it here, even if it’s as a maid."
She could get stronger and get used to Lead Warrior rank if she stayed back during the short while. Cade would be very busy so Jessika would move around more freely.
The Alpha wouldn’t be there to scare the maids and as Jade was in prison, it was a perfect time to lazy around. Why should she be missing out?
"Well then, keep being a maid at the Packs Meeting. Your Alpha and Prince are attending so someone should wait on them." Sorren deadpanned.
Laurel’s shoulders slumped. That was his reply? "Can’t it be someone else?"
"Apparently no."
"Why not?"
"Why don’t you guess?" Sorren frowned. "Why is your life sheer easier than the rest?! Why I waste precious hours of the day engaging your lousy conversations?"
Laurel backed away noticing his raised voice tone. Was he getting angry? She should be the one getting angry as her quiet life was about to be disrupted.
The only reason he looked her way was because she was his brother’s mate. She snapped her head to him. "Are you saying that you’re taking me because I’m Stefan’s mate?"
"You should say that a little less loudly or you wouldn’t remain alive to be taken." Sorren glanced towards Cade’s quarters. Laurel gulped down saliva.
Certainly the Beta would kill her if he knew her connection with the Alpha. She was certainly not worth it to him.
"Look princess. I could order you to come and you won’t resist. But, I asked your permission."
"That’s because you want an answer. Mine is no." Laurel folded her arms. "But you could choose to forcefully and mercilessly drag your brother’s mate to the meeting."
Sorren raised a brow. Did she think he wouldn’t do it? He exhaled. "Fine."
Fine? Laurel smiled. So he would stop pushing for her to attend? "You are so understanding, thank you—"
"You’d come," Sorren interrupted her. "And I’d tell you why your father attacked our Kingdom years ago."
Laurel’s smile slowly fell. "He was trying to kill Lycans." But then she knew the kingdom had more than Lycans.
"Was that what you were told? Then, do you know who killed your mother?" Sorren leaned towards her.
Laurel took a step back. He had gotten her interest now. Why would he know such an information? "Who? Who?"
Sorren leaned back, wearing a smirk. "Is that ’yes, I’d attend the meeting’? Or you morphed to an owl?"
He definitely had her in his hook now. Laurel clenched her fists, but the anger was directed at her mother’s murderer. "I guess... I guess I’d attend the meeting then."
